I wish a 2 bbl intake was made for the 235/261 engines, the only early six I know that had a 2 bbl was the 302 GMC. I do not want dual one bbl carbs.

another option would be the 261 cam in the 235, just like the original corvette
Too late now,I did have it apart enough where a cam change would have been very easy and wish I would have thought about doing that.

From what I have read no cars in the states got the 261,only the large trucks got them. The 261 was all over in the great white north.

The only better thing would if you had a 261 handy when you started your rebuild.
Yes I would have loved to have a 261 but never found one.

The 235 is a much better choice for the truck. The 216 had babbitted bearings a splash oiling system. I believe it's getting difficult and expensive to rebuild an engine with those bearings, and the splash system in those old Chevys worked poorly at best when driving at higher speeds.
It has 3.55 gears and a S10 T-5,the gears are too tall for the present 1957 235 to operate efficiently and was told that in 59 the sixes got a cam for better low rpm torque so before changing to 3.73s I will see how the new engine handles those gears.

I have two engine projects going on right now,one is gathering parts to put a original engine back in my 55 Ford and the other is for my 37 Chevy p/u,the one for the 37 is a 60 235 to replace a 57 235 that needs a crank but still runs. Was wanting to paint it a original 37 color but at 25 dollars a rattle can and 150 a quart its getting a tractor gray, was going to see if I could find a running 37 216 but did not want to give up 50 hp since I can keep up with traffic with the 235.

I did find that 3/8 allen head bolt in the right length that I was looking for,it would have been way quicker to go to the hardware store but now I will have a some what organized bolt bin and a 5 gallon bucket of bolts I might get to sorting out.
-
Organizing the bolt bin will save me money now,if I needed more then two of the same bolt it was easier to go to the hardware store but now I have found multiples so I hope I will only have to go occasionally.
-
I would love to have enough bins so they can be organized like in the hardware store.
-
I am not retired but tired of not finding what I am looking for that I know I should have and too late to go to the hardware store.

Over 30 years ago my grandfather gave me this bin full of bolts which I added many more and it was not organized so last night I started to,it looks like I am going to put all that will not fit in a bucket and deal with those as the need arises. I have a couple more boxes full and might be able to fill a 5 gallon bucket full.

So now if you up the power one needs to add those new safety items,a good judge should throw that out.

If it would have been a manual trans I would have never changed much, after having mid 50s Olds the original automatic trans was a dog starting in second and yes I manually shifted it but I did not like it so I tore into it. Looking back I should have gotten me a mid 60s car for a long distance ride and left this one alone.

This is going to be next winters project, the engine in the 37 is going to happen late this winter and I want to get all the parts I think I will need now.
-
Found all the PVC parts and put them with the valley pan and most likely will use a FOM/FMX hybrid trans where to the untrained eye will look original but will start out in first all the time and I can keep the highway gears it now has. It had 3.30 gears and presently has 3.00 gears and might be able to go to 2.75s with the trans starting in first, that Y block should have the torque to move that car with 2.75 gears starting in first but will see how it does with 3.00 gears first. Just need to drill two holes in the FMX case to mount the FOM bellhousing to it

Going to pick up the 4 bbl heads and 4 bbl kick down linkage tomorrow.

I remember seeing a GMC truck in a junkyard years ago with the V12 badges so I had to look since I did not know there were made, opened the hood and seen what I thought was a V6 but then looked back and seen another intake and set of heads.
