I think its still in the shed,I got rid of the supposively rebuilt trans 10 years ago but the other one should be still here.
-
I would think they would be the same up to 64 since the frames and firewalls look to be the same.
-
I do not think the 46 trans will bolt to the newer bellhousing,I think the newer trans bolt pattern started in 48.
-
I am having second thoughts about placing wanted adds on craigslist.
-
I hate a wimpy shifting trans and loved those hydros,I bought a 53 Olds with a blown motor so I decided to go with a larger motor so I bought a 59 to get what I thought was a 394. Since the crank was not drilled the hydro did not go in so I used the jetaway and was a little dissappointed as it did not shift as firm as the hydro but after a little plaing with some adjustments got it a little better.
-
I am not going to try to repair it,I will send it to someone who knows what they are doing.
-
I am going to call that place and see what they can do,since the GMC gauges will be going in a Chevy it might be better to use the GMC face on my rusty and working NOS Chevy gauge.
-
After changing the drivetrain in my 55 and got a computer I found a trans shop in Texas that will convert a FOM to start out in first gear and if I knew that then things would have been different,if I go with the FMX I will use the original 55 FOM air cooled bellhousing so at first glance it will look like it still has the original trans. Those mid 50s 4 speed hydros in the Oldsmobiles were quick out of the hole compared to those Ford automatics and just could not live with it even though my dad bought the 55 new, right now I am kind of glad it has the newer drivetrain since I do drive to to Florida once a year and all I carry is a tool box but looking to build another long distance driver to use the 351 in and go back to a Y block in the 55 and just drive it shorter distances.

I think the old school alignment shops are going to be a thing of the past soon,we lost two here in the Dayton Ohio area in the last year. One due to a death and the other shop owner retired.

I have a 37 GMC temp gauge that the tube has been cut off and can it be repaired,I do have a NOS 37 Chevy p/u temp gauge with a rusty face so could the two be combined to make one good gauge. The Chevy and GMC gauges are basicly the same but with a slight color difference,I am going with the GMC gauges in my Chevy since the GMC oil gauge goes much higher then the Chevy and I do have a later 235 in it that pegs the oil gauge and since the slight color difference I need to change them all so does anyone know a place that can repair or take the two and make one.
-
I put a 351-w in my 55 sunliner and I now wish I would have kept the Y block since the original 272 seems to have more torque then the 351,having mid 50s Olds before I got the 55 I thought it was a slug compared to the olds but the biggest problem with the Ford O matic trans is it starts out in second when left in drive so if it was my T bird I would adapt a newer trans to the 312. I am collecting the parts to put a Y block back in my 55 but a original FOM trans will not be going in,I am either going to adapt the rebuilt C-4 thats in it now or use a FMX which is very similar to the FOM and would take very little work to go in.

Some tire stores can align older cars but you need to check with them first,I took my 65 custom 500 down to one and they had someone who could so when my 65 country squire needed alignment the next year I took it to the same place. I got a call a couple hours later telling me they could only set the toe in and it would be much more for a complete alignment and their alignment guy really could not set the castor and camber so I took it to another shop who specialized in alignments,I had two shops I could take a older vehicles to but one has died and the other shop closed so I will need to be looking for a new place for alignments.

If I give up the VCCA when my membership expires I will join,I have to give up one to join another since living is getting very expensive and not much money left to have fun after the bills are paid.
-
I am still thinking about joining but all my old vehicles are not the way they came from the factory so I do not think I would be very welcome,I am beginning to rethink my decision on joining the VCCA so its probably better to wait awhile until I do get a all original vehicle.
-
I heard the Crosley trans were originally made for lathes or some other equipment so the Chevy trans should be much tougher.
-
Looks like someone put a aftermarket front suspension on their Chevy II and and needed something to do withnthe left over parts, this had to have been done after a few too many beers.
-
I have never seen one too,I do remember mustang pedal cars and those 1/16 scale battery or gas powered mustangs at the dealers which were not give aways around 65 or 66.
-
Since I also have a 1955 Ford convertible which is slightly modified like my 37 chevy p/u I joined the Crown Victoria association which they do welcome modfied cars but on the way into work this morning I got thinking was it originally for all original cars and if it was did the same thing happen when they decided to allow modifieds,if that was the case then it semed to have worked out well since at the CVA events I attended everyone got along just fine and it was not the end of the world like I think some in the VCCA think is going to happen. I understand some do not like changes and if nothing had changed over the years we would not be online communicating and have some of the neat technology which could be a topic for a discussion for another day,if I remember correctly the AACA has a class for vintage race cars and they are technically modified vehicles.

Did not know they were a unibody.

Well heflin thanks for the link but the only Chevy/GMC truck club in Ohio listed must not be still around,my last comment on this situation is I think its going to drive a wedge between everyone and make the VCCA events less enjoyable for everyone and the crisis is in only a few members heads. I never thought I would see this animosity between members of the old car hobby, maybe it has always been there but I just noticed it after being on this forum and its not getting any better.
-
It was the closest club I could find at the time,my truck is not original and is not a hotrod or streetrod so I am kind of in limbo. All the parts used to build it are over 25 years old and if they were still on the original vehicles could be show at the AACA and VCCA events. SO WHAT CHEVY CLUB IS OUT THERE THAT I WOULD FEEL WELCOME AT and not internet only clubs as I do want to attend events.
-
For someone like me what other Chevrolet club would be better,if I knew of one I would drop the VCCA in a heatbeat,if clubs like the VCCA do not want people like me then they need to have on all literature in bold letters MODIFIED VEHICLES AND THE PEOPLE WHO LIKE THEM ARE NOT WELCOME.
-
As a memeber of the VCCA I have no problems with modifieds since the only Chevrolet I own is a slightly modified 37 p/u,adding modifieds is not going to be the end of the club but all the bickering might cause serious problems. If you do not like modifieds just walk on by as I do when I see a vehicle with a 350 SBC motor as I can not stand looking at them even thought I own a Chevrolet, with that said I am in a sticky position since my 37 is not original and its not a streetrod and definately not a hotrod so where do I go for a club. I do not think my 37 could be called a restomod since it has a 57 235 hooked to a S10 5 speed with a mid 70s rear end and disc brakes on the original straight axle and originalish steering (41-6) and it looks original on the outside, its just a comglomeration or parts to make it more enjoyable in todays traffic as to put it mildly it sucked when it still had the original driveline and brakes. I figured the VCCA would be a much safer club for me to join then a club like the AACA but beginning to have my doubts and might let my membership lapse next fall,

It would be best to change the pump while its out so you do not have to do it twice,I installed the 90 fuel pump system in my 88 with a used pump and the sending unit went out. The sending unit is replacable from the pump assembly but I could not find one at the local parts stores but Jeffs Bronco graveyard has one for around 60 dollars, all I could find at the local parts stores was the pumps and not sure I want to spend 300 for the whole pump assembly.
Driving a Prewar Car on a Modern Highway

I got my 37 Chevy p/u able to go 65 on the highway now but I can tell its not really designed for that speed so I do not go any faster, even though I did lower it a little and upgrade the brakes it still seems a little top heavy at higher speeds and still acts like a old truck. I still usually take the back roads but its good to know if I do have to go on the highway it will handle it without the motor sounding like its going to come apart,I wish overdrive trans would have been more available on the low priced prewar vehicles.
