Last year I pulled the front seat out of my 55 Ford convertible and today it was installed,I did have a spare seat to throw in so I could drive it but it looked horrible in it and glad its gone. This is not a reproduction cover as I stitched it up myself and will do the rear seat over the winter, the quality control must not have been too good back then as the pleats were not straight and not evenly spaced and some of the top stitching was not even so I tried to get it much better. The rear backrest is worse then the front so its going to be harder to straighten up and while the front was apart I stiffened up the springs along with repairing the broken springs and installed new foam and cotton,I will probably have almost what I could have bought covers for but thats no fun.

I tried to get on and no luck.

I have been to the show at the Midland fairgrounds too and enjoyed it,family had property about 70 miles away but have not been back since it was sold.
-
First time I have heard about a Rambler being stolen since its usually muscle cars or much more popular vehicles,I hope they get it back without too much damage done to it since it looks like a very nice car.

A factory shop manual has all that info.

I am going to get my 37 Chevy p/u out next friday.
-
The 51 Chevy and 50 GMC were a 3/4 ton with 8 lugs and were 15 inch split rims,16 or 17 inch might have been available but all the 3/4 tons I have paid any attention too had the 15 inch rims.
-
Both the 51 Chevy and 50 GMC I had came with 15 inch split rims,I dont know if anyone could be found to work on them these days and if it was my truck would look into those companies who make rims and see if they regular type rims could be made for it that will accept original looking hubcaps.
-
Old trucks do not handle or steer like cars, even with a rebuilt front suspension and even lowered a little and modern shocks my 37 Chevy p/u still rides, steers and handles like a old truck. If the front suspension has not been greased in years you might have to take some heat to the kingpins to get them to accept grease and when greased up should be a little easier to steer but its a old truck.

I have not been up there since the mid 90s and need to check it out again.

You might be able to use a 53 Buick for some body parts too.
-
A new top is not going to look too out of place on that car and you might have to redo both seats,I am redoing both seats in my 55 Ford convertible with the front first and then later the rear with the rest of the interior original.

Over the winter I scrapped my 95 f150 beater truck, the frame was getting rusty and was thinking about fixing it but then the 5 speed lost 3rd and 4th and with a foot of snow on the ground it got scrapped, paid 800 for it 3 years ago and got 550.00 for it. Now I could use it since I know someone who needs a complete front suspension due to some Dukes of Hazard type driving.

Its just a 20 footer and its going to earn its keep, its probably going to get converted to a 1/2 ton so I can get taller gears and get it to ride much better.

I have no intention of installing them in a vehicle if they did not originally come with them, and before anyone starts in about them being more safe I survived a serious car wreck that I was in the hospital for a month and to this day do not like using them. I would have been decapitated if I was using the seat belts since the hood came in through the windshield so I survived falling towards the driver. If anyone wants to install them then go for it as I will not tell anyone they should not but I do not like being forced to use them.

I sent them a email a few weeks ago asking why there were no more diecast cars and trucks on their website, they sent me a reply that they were looking for a new manufacture for them and if that one is the last then they must have not have found one and given up.

I have found Carter 4 bbls on a couple early 50s Olds.

I know of some 303 motors in a couple junkyards, what year do you have.
-
I might have to check it out if I remember it.

If I was closer I would jump on it quickly,I had a 50 8 pass sedan for many years and would like another 8 pass sedan. Would rather have another 50 but any year would do if it had a decent body.
-
It would have been easier to buy a kit but I wanted to do it myself, the original seat covers were not sewn up too good as they had uneven pleats and some crooked top stitching which I hope to get much better. The rear back rest is horrible and seen others just as bad so I guess people did not pay that much attention to stuff like that back then.

I put the spare seat in it last summer but finally got around to rebuilding it,I am redoing the covers and adding new foam along with repairing some broken springs and will stiffen the springs some as I like a firm seat. 3 trips to florida with springs poking in my back plus the foam completely gone on the cushion so it was time to do something, both backrests are done and the cushion is patterned out and just needs to be sewn togather so I hope I can get it done in the next couple weeks as I need to order foam.
Finally got the front seat done

It only took a year for me to get it done.
