  1. I just received my letter from the AACA. I think the "urgent" on the envelope was a good idea. It made me open it right away and read it. I have lost count of the number of times that my local club, has sent out its newsletter with info about a upcoming show or event, only to have members, who throw it in the corner and do not read it until after the event and miss it! A another point, that a number of member have made is that we found out about this issue, after its is all over and done. The Board has known about this issue for a number of years and keep us members in the dark. So members who have given money and or cars to the museum, in the past few years are upset and rightly so. Over the past number of year I have spent a good sum of money buying things at the museum auction, held each year at the meet in Philly. Had I known about this issue, I would have brought nothing and spent more at the library tag sale! What brothers me, is why is the board so secretive, about things? Why were we not told about these negotiations, years ago? Then the membership would not have been blindsided my this letter. This is negotiations about a auto museum, not " Salt Two" treaty talks about nuclear weapons! Both the letter and posting here, from board members, have made a point about the Library and Research Center and how much it has grown. Now it needs a bigger building. The board wants to build a new building. With the cost of building and zoning laws and land. This new building will cost million of dollars to build. How does the board plan to pay for this? Are they going to tell us? Are we the members going to have any input into this? Or is this going to be more secret meeting. With the membership not know what is going on until its too late. The Board of Directors, get paid no money for what they do. For that I respect them. But why are their meeting so secret? Steve said that they tape all of their meetings. Do they not trust each other? A number of people, have said that the Board has our best interests at heart. Maybe if they told us what some of these interests are, we the members could take some of the load off of their hearts!
  2. I have brought tires a number of times at Costco. Here not only are the tire installer certified. But each time they take class and pass they get a coin, and on the wall by the checkout desk. Are photos of all of the installer's and the class that they have taken and the coins that they have earned.
  3. I was also stayed at the same hotel, that the Hagerty team was staying at. The car was had good sized oil puddle under it. I hope they took some extra oil with them, when they headed back to Mich.
  4. What I have read in these posts is, not new. Let me tell you my story. 32 years ago, I brought a lot of NOS Mopar parts. So I put a number of ads in Hemmings. One of the items was a NOS 1954 Desoto rear bumper. A guy from down south sent me a check for the bumper and the shipping by bus. About 5 days after I got the check and had deposited the check in the bank, the guy called me. He wanted to know why he had not yet gotten the bumper. I explained that I was waiting for the check to clear.(In those days it could take up eight days for a check to clear.) He was so upset, that he hung up on me. I should have taken that has a sign. The next day , I felt bad and sent him the bumper. Four days later he called me to tell me he had gotten the bumper and now did not want it and was sending it back. So he sent it back by bus C.O.D. So not only was I out the $40 for the bumper, but it cost me $40 in bus shipping. I still have that bumper. Its in my basement somewhere. A lesson learned.
  5. I got the letter today about this, it went right into the recycling bin. If they are giving the club a large amount of money, I have no problem with this. As long as they do not call me. The club needs money and this is one way of getting it.
  6. These is a very interesting video clip on the internet of a 69 year old man, who lives in a war-torn city in Syria and will not leave because, he want to save his collection of antique US cars. The cars are not in the best of shape and some are no more then parts cars. I tried to link this clip to this web site. But I just don't know how. So goggle "antique cars in Syria" and it will come up. Hopefully one of you other members will be able to do it.
  7. Hi, First I want to thank you members you sent such nice replies about my seminar "Reel cars". After sending a few emails and some work by the AACA. They were able to reschedule my seminar for Friday afternoon 1:15 to 2:45. Of cause I will have all new films, shown on a real 16mm projector, the way they were meant to be seen. Michael
  8. Hi, Some of you may have been to my seminars that I have given over the past 16 years, called "Reel cars" , where I showed 16mm car films. I want to thank you if you did. Well I just got a email blast telling me, that my seminar was not picked for this year by the "committee". So if you come to Philly this Feb, looking for my seminar, this is why you will not find it. What brothers me is that, as far as I know nobody from the committee has been to one my seminars! The lady who is now In charge of the seminars since last year, not only has she never been to my seminar, I have never meet or talked or gotten a email from. Except for the one today. So after 16 years, this is the thank you I get. Michael
  9. I just ordered the portable toilet for my spot at Hershey. The woman on the phone said to me that this year there would be a small price increase. The cost went from $95 to $110. When she told me this, I said "I am afraid to hear what you would call a big price increase." So my question is, what company do you other vender use for your portable toilet? And most important of all, what do they charge?
  10. In todays New Yor Post there is a exclusive, about a new show on the Discovery Channel. Called "Lords of the Car Hoards", it stars WWE superstar wrestler Chuck Palumbo and "hot-rod guru" Rick Dore. In the show they visit "car hoarders" "(people who collect classic automobiles)". The idea of the show is they have the car hoarder pick one of their cars to restore. To cover the cost of this, they have to sell other cars and or parts from their collection to pay for the rebuild. The show premiers on March 17 at 10 pm. So set your vcr and make sure you have blank tape. I would love to go on the show, but I do not think they could find buyers for my other cars and parts, to pay for this.
  11. Hey Steve, My seminar "REEL CARS" is going on at the same time as the library seminar, matter of fact its in the room next door. This is my 14th year doing this seminar and I also have a lot of work into it. I just feel that you "drumming up business" for the library seminar, make the other seminars going on at the same time, not as important. If the library seminar is such a big deal, then it should he held when there are no other seminars going on.
  12. Got a letter today about the new info that AACA wants on the judging forms. I understand what they want added to the judging form. I just thing they have to make the judging forms, bigger. A lot of people do not have good handwriting and to adding little letters to these forms is going to be a pain in the neck and very hard to read.
  13. Have the parking passes for judges parking at Hershey been mailed out yet?
  14. Here is a photo of my new "old" car. A 1935 Pierce-Arrow 845. It has been in the garage behind it for the past 22 years. It is all original, with 45,000 miles. Now the fun starts!!!
  15. Here is a photo of my lastest old car. A 1935 Pierce-Arrow 845. The car had been in the garage, behind it for the past 22 years. It is all original, with just 45,000 miles. Now the fun starts!!!
  16. I having been checking, found out that New York State does not stamp registrations, with flood on them if the car is a per 1973 car, That has been totaled by the insurance company because of super storm Sandy. 1973 and up cars are titled cars and will have a marked title. So if you buy a car from NYS, have it checked. I have heard of dealers buying cars off of a well known auction site (not Ebay) and then cleaning them up and then selling them.
  17. I have a spot in the Red field, this year crowds were down. The problem is that the show is so big now, that a lot of people can not do the whole show. A lot of people look in the program and then go to the vender selling what they want. Also the most crowded spots are the ones near food and where they come in from the parking lot. My sales were down by about 35%. But did sell more jackets, because of the cold weather. Friday that wind chilled a lot of people. That why the AACA sold out all of their sweatshirts. Two of the venders I know told me that next year they are going to put out a few items on the table and then, walk the show. I will not, I will be back, selling my car parts, having people beat me up to cut the price on a part by $5 - $10. The fun of Hershey!
  18. I watched the episode where they redid the 1950 Olds 88. Here is what I don't understand. They brought the car for about $7000 they then replace the engine, trany had the seats and inside all redone, new tire and wheels. They listed the car for $25,000 and sold it, but the guy who brought it said we would only buy it if the replaced the suspension with air ride. The cost about $6000, the shop owner said ok. So here is what I don't understand. They brought the car for $7000, plus $6000 for the air ride, sold the car for $25,000 and made money. So that leaves $12,000 and out of that comes, the motor, had to cost $2000, the trany $1500, the inside $2000, tire and wheels $1500. All the parts they don't talk about and they made money. 'what is their labor rate? $5 an hour.
  19. A pal of mine, wants to go the auction in a couple of years and buy a car. So I told him this is how we should work it. While on stage bidding on the car, he will call me on his cell phone and talk to me the whole time he is bidding so I can tell him which tv camera is on him so he will know where to look. Also he should have a cup of beer in his other hand, to show how its no big deal bidding xxx money for a car. But I still enjoy the auction. Watching people send more then I did on my house to buy a car, like they are buying a can of soda, just makes me feel poor. Do you see that blue 1955 Nash Met went for $42,000? I guess we will be see a lot of them coming out of the garage.
  20. The limos at the funeral were cool. But if you watch the footage, you will you will see to the left of the Lincoln limos, a 1975,76 Lincoln two door convertible. It was being used by the press to take photos of the funeral. To help foster a US -North Korea freindship, we should give them a membership to the AACA and the Lincoln owners club.
  21. The New York Post on 6/20/11 printed an article about the lawsuit about how he brought the 1931 Duesenberg Model J that belonged to John Straus. The lawsuit against Leno and the Windsor Garage was brought by the Straus family claimed Leno got the car, which he had been eyeing for years, from the east side garage after it seized it and then sold it to him in a "sham auction" The terms of the settlement are confidential, but a "source said the family got some money, but not from Leno, who get to keep the car." The interesting thing is that the NY Post has been covering this story for over three years. It even made the front page, when the manager of the garage killed himself. Two cars were auctioned off, he got the 1932 Rolls Royce. If you want to read more, just go to the NY Post web site.
  22. I must be the only one who has problem with battery tenders. I hooked up my name brand tender to my 6 volt battery and left it. Months later I checked and found the battery low on water. Filled it and took the tender off and then hooked it back up a month later. After three years the battery was no good, it was dead and would not take a charge. So I got rid of the bad battery, my battery tender and brought a Optima battery and have had no problems for the past two years.
  23. Just looked at my 2011 (5771) jewish calender. Yom Kippur will be Oct 8 2011. Which happens to be Hershey show day. This is the latest I have I ever seen Yom Kippur fall. This also means Rosh Hashanah, will be the Thursday and Friday of fall Carlisle.
  24. A car like your's sold at Hershey, around 3 years ago. The car was in very good condition. It drove and had no rust. The car sold for $18,000. There was even a photo of it in Hemmings. On the other side, there was one on ebay, the needed work. It did not run and a tree had falled on the roof, putting a big dent in it. It was listed for $3000 by a dealer and did not sell. So the value of your car, it's what some one will pay for it. Being a odd car, you might find someone who wants it bad and will pay big bucks, or someone who wants to give you $2000 because its a odd car. Cars like this there are no set values, because of how odd the car is.
