  1. The Controlled Coupling Hydra-Matic transmission DID have a rear pump from 1956 to 1958, I doubt very seriously that 1957-58 Eldorados would not have a rear pump, when 1956-1958 Pontiacs and Oldsmobiles did.
  2. 1949-1955 Cadillac 331 V8, 1956-1958 Cadillac 365 V8, 1959-1963 Cadillac 390 V8, 1964-1967 Cadillac 429 V8, 1968-1974 Cadillac 472 V8, 1975-1976 Cadillac 500 V8, 1970-1976 Eldorado 500 V8.
  3. The controlled coupling aka dual coupling Hydra-Matic transmissions in 1956-1958 Pontiacs was named the Strato Flight Hydra-Matic, name changed to Super Hydramatic in 1959, and the 56-58 Controlled Coupling Hydra-Matics DID have a rear pump, the 1959-1964 Super Hydramatics did not have the rear pump. Charles L. Coker 1953 & 1954 Pontiac Technical Advisor Pontiac Oakland Club International
  4. the Dual Range Improvement to the Hydra-Matic Drive valve body first came out in 1952 Hydra-Matic transmissions, 1951 was the last year for the Single Range valve body.
  5. I used my craftsman rotary tool with a small wire brush attachment to clean up the butterflies and the mounting surface of the throttle plate, looks good.
  6. this is a GM Rochester throttle lever assembly I believe I can use to modify the 1965 Oldsmobile 4jet throttle lever to become pushed movement instead of the pull movement.
  7. I transferred the vacuum fitting from the rear of the smaller 4gc carb to the larger one, and learned that the front corner vacuum port is used for the distributor advance.
  8. Hi, which vacuum source was used for distributor vacuum advance on the Rochester 4gc aka 4jet ?, on the rear of the throttle plate or the right front corner of the throttle plate ?, thank you in advance.
  9. the awful "slim jim" roto 10 Hydramatic three speed used older technology of a fluid coupling and a dump & fill fluid transfer to make a gear shift, with a horrible jerk, I was never more happy than when I changed out the slim jim and the rod-knocking, smoking, tired 389 engine in my 1962 Grand Prix, and installed a fresh rebuilt 1970 455 engine and 1967 Buick switch pitch Super 400 transmission, what a transformation, even found someone then, to buy the slim jim for $100.00 in 1992.
  10. 3 different size 4jet carb, 486, 553, 692, 486 had same size primary and secondary butterflies, 1 7/16" 553 has same primary has 486, and larger secondary 1 11/16" 692 has larger primary 1 9/16" and secondary 1 11/16"
  11. I'm told that having the four vertical vent tubes in pairs at both ends of the choke plate, is a strong indicator that the carburetor is the 692 cfm version, usually there's the last four numbers stamped on top of the carburetor, also the diameter of the primary and secondary butterflies will tell what the cfm is
  12. well I've been thinking about the 57 Rochester 4jet being too small on cfm's, 553, so I've been searching feebay for a larger 692 cfm version, and I found this one listed on feebay, came from a 1965-66 Oldsmoble 425 V8, has been rebuilt by a Canadian company, Auto Line, and their P/N C-979, I called them today, and they verified it being the 692 cfm version of the Rochester 4jet carburetor, feebay seller wanted $70.00 plus shipping, he accepted my $42.00 offer plus shipping. I'll check it out, and clean it where needed, may end up putting a new rebuild kit into it.
  13. the 1958-1960 Lincoln models were never a "hardtop convertible", there were convertibles, hardtop coupes, and four door hardtop sedans.
  14. what ratio does your carrier currently have ?
  15. if the new shocks are the same length as the old ones, both extended and compressed, then you must put enough weight in the trunk to shorten the distance between the upper and lower rear shock mounts, as for the front end, the same or use a pair of coil spring compressor clamping tools.
  16. you likely have a failed front motor mount, the rubber likely has started to come apart, causing the engine to sit slightly lower in the front, a new engine mount and perhaps two large washer as a shim, should restore changing or removing the fan belt as easy as it's supposed to be.
  17. if the part # is 8520659 ?, there's one listed on feebay, but I wouldn't pay $400.00 for it.
  18. I believe the same flat cooler was used on extreme usage Pontiacs (taxi & patrol cruiser) with the Hydra-Matic, as well as the 1953 Pontiacs equipped with the cast iron power glide trans. and was the same cooler offered optional on 55-56 Pontiacs with the Hydra-Matic trans.
