  1. yes, GM called them rear engine isolator mounts, before the Controlled Coupling (dual coupling) trans (Oldsmobile named Jetaway) the Hydra-Matic was removed from the bell housing, leaving the engine still supported by 3 or 4 mounts.
  2. if your rear engine bell housing mounts L&R are wore out and breaking apart, that will affect the shifting of gears in the single range Hydra-Matic trans, as someone has said, there is no torque converter, but a very good fluid coupling, be sure the engine is tune real good, no ignition misses, because a ignition miss will end up breaking one or more of the fluid coupling torus bowl's shift compensating springs - there are 6 springs in the torus bowl.
  3. I'm using the same intake manifold with a rebuilt rochester 4gc carburetor to upgrade my 59 389 two barrel high compression engine, going into my 1953 Pontiac Chieftain Custom Catalina
  4. the "park" position is the reverse gear with the engine turned off, but he should make sure the Hydra-Matic selector is in Neutral before trying start the engine without the ignition switch. likely he has the ignition key and switch in the ON position, and just using a remote starter switch so he can be under the hood to observe.
  5. what years before 1957, did Oldsmobile have their rear end with 16 spline rear axles ?, I have asked the Oldsmobile group, but no one has replied.
  6. these were bought at the 2022 POCI convention swap meet, but it's not listed in the Pontiac Master Parts Catalog.

  8. when batteries are connected in parallel, same voltage, twice the reserves, when batteries are connected in series, the voltage doubles or 6 + 6 = 12.
  9. what years prior to the 1957 Oldsmobile/Pontiac 9.3 rear end, did the previous Oldsmobile rear ends have 16 spline rear axles and side gears ?
  10. Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Buick (perhaps not Special) all went to 12 volts in 1953, Pontiac and Chevrolet in 1955, most other makes were 12 volts too in 1955.

  12. after I took this picture, I got my dremel tool set, and rotary wire brushed both screws, square washers, all four terminals, even where the two rivets, it cleaned up quite nicely, I mailed it to a friend who bought it from me, he finally installed it, and told me that it works perfectly.
  13. temperature was not controlled by cycling the A5 compressor.
  14. 49 to 52 Chevies and Pontiacs used the Body by Fisher's A body.
  15. trying to help a friend find a new or nos rubber floor mat for his Pontiac Streamliner, are there any sources these days ?
  16. sounds like your jumper cables were not very well made, too small gauge of wire to handle the amount of ampere.
