  1. More More More I did not get all the Buicks. But here are a few more cars I though worthy of documenting
  2. This show is one of the last in the Rhinebeck area. It is usually well attended although this year there were less cars than last year. I have a few pics to put up so it will take a few posts to accomplish.
  3. I agree. The other guys insurance co supposedly agreed to cover the damages already and they see the car tomorrow. But Doug had to take the car to his Allstate Rep first for an estimate. He told me the fellow assigned did not even want to open the front door and did not seem concerned about the twisted B Pillar. He said the front door could be straightened and the body side moulding on the rear door could be reused. He then took it to a place here in town that does excellent work and they immediately said the damage was 2K higher than the Allstate estimator claimed. Sure looks like you're in good hands with Allstate alright. Just be certain your wearing protection.
  4. Wow, Nice turnout. Now that gas prices are dropping it looks like the car people don't want the year to end.
  5. That building is at the corner of Erie Blvd and State St I believe. That's about a mile away from the Alco plant. But the Alco plant here built train locomotives. Between them and GE the City took the motto " The City that lights and moved the world". Prety brazen stuff for a place that can now only boast the City with the largest tax bill per capita on the planet.
  6. Can you get a hold of a Standard Catalog of Buicks book? First edition may be sufficient. There is 2 1/2 pages of tiny print that spells out the options and prices when new for all the models. No wonder they all look different to me, as opposed to todays Mini Coopers etc.
  7. I wonder if the Riv is also a bit heavier with added insulation or such? Presumably the aircleaner is new before you make any milage test. I always found when the milage dropped a few MPG it was time for a new aircleaner.
  8. My son Doug ( redwind89 on this site) was going to the grocery store Sunday PM when a youngster in a Taurus decided his 2003 Regal needed some alterations.
  9. I know what you mean Joe. Last time I went to get a piece of sheetrock with the Electra I had to bust it up to get it in the trunk. You would have thought with such a wide car you could get a 4 ' piece of sheetrock between the wheel wells but noooo, the thing was an inch too narrow. And then 3 feet was hanging out the back besides. I don't even ride around with the rear seats up. I have plans to keep this car for a while.
  10. I think Brian got it right, it's a Roadmaster. Most likely a 4 dr based on the forward leaning C pillar. The headlight shrouds would be painted on a Roadmaster and chrome on all other models, according to the pictures shown in the standard catalog of Buicks Nice catch Brian.
  11. The article talks about how the chief was showing off his "new" two way radio. That building in the background is still there today. And I think that pothole in the foreground is still there today too.
  12. This photo was printed in todays paper. This was back in the good old days for Schenectady when GE maintained a workforce of several 10's of thousands of workers. Now they only have about 3K here but it seems they are reinventing the place lately. Anyway, on to the photo ( I wonder what model it is?):
  13. That is the Buick 350 in there, with the turbo 350 transmission. The wheels were off an 85 wagon. I have a set of chrome road wheels here ( which should have been on there) but they are off a Riviera and are set up for my 69 Electra's disc brakes. Odd-ly the center hub hole on the Electra is 1/4 inch smaller than the hub on this Wagon, so I had to pull these rims off the shelf. The nice thing is this engine runs very well. I had some trouble with the carb linkage but sprayed it down with carb cleaner and it works right now. I am going to start looking for a used 1970 Buick 350 to keep in stock in case I have future need. Zonda, you had found the car in the Want Ad Digest, online, and sent an e-mail to the Chapter members. And this car was sitting within 10 miles of Dick Andrew's summer place in the Adirondacks...
  14. Thanks to Zonda, we added this 1978 Estate Wagon to our small collection. We drove it the 100 miles home this past Thursday and were very pleased. Eventually it will need some work but for now I'm just glad to have it. When I first looked at it I thought I smelled antifreeze, and figured it needed a water pump. But it turned out the owner had just not retightened the hose clamps on the new top radiator hose. The car has a new water pump, a clean timing chain cover so I suspect a new timing gear set, new brakes and battery. The A/C even works still. It does need a headliner including the sun visors, and a good armbustin polish. Maybe later this week.
  15. Whew! Hot hot hot!!! That is looking so good. And glad to hear you're feeling better too. Planning to take it to Colorado next summer?
  16. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: MCHinson</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> In fact, we are probably going to have to pull the plug on our Red Light cameras, (which have reduced traffic crashes) because the city loses about $200,000 per year on the program. Previously, the city withheld the cost of running the program from the proceeds of the tickets and the school boards sued and The State Supreme Court ruled that they had to have ALL of the revenue. </div></div> Sorry MC, but this part proves Reatta Man's point in my opinion. Essentially the City needs people to break the laws because of revenue, otherwise they would not want you to shut down the camera's. It is a sorry situation that many municipialities need their own police force for whatever reason they have them. Here we have State Police, County Sheriffs, and a local town force plus a huge tax bill to afford them all. We also have a State DOT, a County Dept of Public Works and our town has a town Highway Department. And no one seems to think this is out of the ordinary, except me. I often wonder why our town can't drop the police dept and let the County Sheriff take over, while we let the county drop their Dept of Public works road crews?
  17. You never know, the way things are going at GM I would not be surprised if they don't try to auction off some of the concept cars soon. At the Heritage tour there were a ton of cars preserved and I was so surprised to see the Lucerne concept car buried so far back in the rear of the hall that many people did not even know it was there.
  18. Thanks for the replies. Being under a tight time constraint I decided that I would use the 1985 Estate Wagon aluminum rims that I've been holding onto for 14 years. My neighbor has an 87 Chevrolet wagon, and my NAPA friend told me the cars had the same front rotor/hubs, so I tried the chrome wheels on that car and the hub is so different than the 69 Electra's that I decided it was not worth chopping out that ring. I had always intended to use these chrome rims on the Electra once it was painted. I put the rims back in the shed for now.
  19. I am surprised. I have heard of Indian Head sealer, but have never seen any. What's this stuff like? To work with Gas it must be special?
  20. Wow! Takes a special person not to be bitter at this turn of events. I am sorry I never met the man. I also offer my condolences to everyone who was close and feels his loss.
  21. I was hoping to use my set of 69 Riviera Chrome Rallye rims for the disc brakes on the 78 Estate Wagon I just procured. But I found out the hub on the 78 needs a 3" center hole, while the centering rings on these chrome wheels has a 2 3/4" opening. Being pressed for time and finances I was thinking of just removing the centering rings. These wheels are fair quality but nothing to brag about, so altering them in this manner is not a big deal to me. But my concern is would I be weaking the wheel to remove this center ring? I'd appreciate anyone's advice on this, and thanks for your help.
  22. Thanks for taking those shots. I sure wish I could have one of those. And it will be exciting to see this car come back to it's rightful glory. Please keep taking and posting the pictures as you progress.
  23. Having never owned a 263 engine I would guess that your oil delivery to those two lifters is lacking sufficient volume. If I recall correctly, you prime hydraulic lifters before installation by imersing in oil and then using the pushrod to activate the plunger. When you cannot push the pushrod down then the lifters are full. I have also heard that pushrods can be primed on more modern v8's by dripping oil down the pushrod hole and pumping on the lifter with the pushrod. But a lifter's prime will only last a few minutes or seconds if there is insufficient volume to replace the oil thats pumped out during operation. So if your tick returns then you need to research where the oil comes from and somehow verify that there is no restriction in those ports.
