1. I used the wrong term I should have said pin striping.
http://www.reatta.net/graphics/brochures/980910_05.jpg
  2. Who knows of history of Reatta paint stripe on the doors having the gap.
I have never seem that been. Is there a reason for it? Is it for good luck?
When I first purchased the car I thought it was a defect.
  3. One of the best things about having a older car is having it out shine a brand new model.
I have been having fun with the Zaino Bros' products since purchasing them last month. The key was having the car buffed at a body shop. I didn't know my blue car was metallic until it was buffed.
Zaino is a polish they use no wax in their products.
Their stuff is fun because the shine gets deeper each time you apply it (up to 5 times).
Now even with my surface paint chips I have one of the shiniest, wettest, slickest cars around, all with 12 year old paint.
i wish I had invented this stuff.
723--833-8800 www.zainobros.com
I use to be a Meguiar's 3-step system man.
  4. I like my '89, but I must add a few logs to the fire.
I was singing your tune last week when it rained two or three days in a row. This is the first car I have owned that leaked like a rusty bucket. A hardtop with this many leaks. Both driver and passenger windows leaking, then the sunroof started...the only thing I could think was how embarrassing. Lucky I didn't have a date planned during this time.
I thought hardtops stopped leaking from the windows in the sixties.
Well the sunshine has returned.
  5. Purchased my '89 for $2300, but it needed driver window motor, and headlight motors.
This maybe the first car I resell for a gain in a couple of years down the road. I will probably have 6 big ones in it by then.
I will save the stock chome wheels and get a stock muffler just in case.
  6. I got a '89 in Nov with 113K for $2300. No accidents.
The price seems high for the mileage. $3500 would be a better price unless the owner can show you receipts for all repairs. One owner is a plus since this person knows the history.
Is this a snow car?
The struts is at least a $500 repair unless you do it yourself; half parts half labor.
I like my car, it has a personality.
These cars were not cheap when new.
  7. Wow, Blaine you gave someone a merry Xmas. They made 100% off the parts plus the labor.
I ordered the OEM front strut mounts from Auto Parts for Less for $56 each for a '89.
And the Monroe's Sensatrac front $58 each.
  8. tc11003 what parts did you replace them with?
Has your ride and/or handling improved?
  9. To touch or not to touch that is the question.
The 88/89 radio's go through the touchscreen.
The radio blackbox is in the center console.
I am also in the process of upgrading.
I would suggest you do one step at a time; starting with the speakers, then the amp, and last the head unit.
At each step if you like the sound output stop there.
The original design was not bad, eight speaker with 5 band graphic equalizer.
  10. I'm getting ready to buy some aftermarket wheels and I would like some Reatta centers
I need four 2.5".
Barney do you know of any?????
Greg

    Insurance rates

    Insurance rates

I was wondering why the GEICO rate was so high for a over forty male in Atlanta.
My rate is only 20 percent less than my 1998 Lexus SC400. But, I was happy with the price for the tags, here in Ga we pay property tax on the tags. With the Lexus it was close to 800 big ones, but the '89 Reatta was only 40 dollars.
I think being a two seater has something to do with it; I thinks two-seaters was considered sport cars.
  13. The service manual has a photo of the 88/89 radio and it looks like a 'black-box' under the center console.
  14. The manufacture of your equipment is a good source of info on placement and wire selection. Yahoo also has a lot install message boards.
The car came stock with component speakers up front, why did you want to go with coaxial speakers?
I'm getting ready to do the same, but I'm not as brave as you I'm going to the best install shop I can find. There are many tricks of the trade to minimize induced noise from entering your system.
Good luck!
  15. I was told the radio amp section would not be stable at a 2 ohm load. Too bad since I have been wanting to reinstall a set of 6.5, 2ohm Gold Sound speakers I purchased in the late eighties maybe 1989. Those bad boys I had in a 1988 Honda CRX Si in the rear in a similar position as the Reatta.... they must have a 10 lb magnet, I kid you not. I have never seen any other speakers like them at 2 ohm to boot. They sound great!
  16. Update:
Looking at the service manual again....the '89 rear stock speakers were 6"mid-bass 10ohm, and a 1.5" tweeter 7 ohm.
The front 1.5" tweeter was also 7 ohm to go with the 5.25" 4 ohm.
  17. Part my message got deleted should read use test tool J34914.
  18. Bingo, I'm losing presets. Where are the C-codes found?
thanks padgett: off topic I had my car buffed at a body shop yesterday, and used some of that Zaino's car polish today- shines like a new car now. I don't know what's in that stuff but it works like magic and is easy to apply and remove.
Drivin': the manual said for the rolling picture disconnect the CRT and connect tool <J-34914> to see if the test tool rolls, if so replace CRT, if the test tool does not roll check for open or short in CKT 723 or poor terminal contact.
  19. All the answers to my questions are explained in the service manual on page 8D-40, computer system diagnosis.
1.none of the switch positions respond.
2.some switchs respond.
3.CRT's picture rolls
4.not all the border switchs work
5.no CRT backlighting
  20. I just checked my codes and all I had in history was C331, C553.
  21. Just received mine in the mail today;small, square, black 4 button. Unmarked, but comes with a instruction sheet. Not bad for $40.00.
  22. I'm confused again is it my touchscreen or the controller which is the source of my problem?
My screen has occasional wiggly lines and delayed reaction (2/3 min).
  23. I called they asked me for a model #. where do I find that?
