1. Thanks for the replies. I never stated selling my car on this site, I just wanted some feedback. I paid $3000 and probably take $4000 or $4500.
2. The mileage is 135k, and the color is dark blue. I have photo's, no body damage. New tires, chome wheels everything works.
3. Happy New Year to everyone. I have not been on this site in about 8 months. Question. My 1989 coupe in just sitting, what would a be a good selling price........everything is working,no accidents, dark blue inside and out, new tires, air works good.
4. Okay let me restate the question.......which brake pads do you use?
5. Delco is that the same as AC/delco, I mean durastop?
6. Does anyone know the different in rear brake pads? I just rec'd from Rockmart Durastops AR 17d354m rear, but they look different from the pads I got from them last time. What do the AC delco 171-557 look like, why do AC/delco have two different part numbers? I think mine are semi-met.
7. Jim is the CRT problem test in the service manual not valid (chart C-1 and C-5), page 8d-49. Since I would have to go the dealer for them to use special tool J-34914. My CRT is rolling since about 6 months.
8. Okay! That's the exact same thing Jim Finn said in his e-mail. "Change the fluid"
9. On the road again..............purchased a pressure switch from Jim Finn and my mechanic installed it yesterday. Brake problem is now solved.
10. Correction...........I don't have touring 732; I have Ecsta hp4 716 for $42 ea.
11. Try Original Interiors 770-978-9140 in Lawrenceville; they do a lot of work for the dealers. When I was selling my '93 Lexus SC400 they made the interior look brand new. And for not much money to boot. Or check Yellow Pages under Auto seat covers, upholstery.
12. Hey.......don't waste your money on Borla, I had a set on my Lexus SC400. They are okay but not worth the money. Just go to a good muffler shop and tell them what you the car to sound like. My '89 has dual exhausts, just use a smaller muffler similar to the stock with two outlets and bend the pipe around the back and come out the other side. They will have to cutout a little bottom bumper molding to match the other side. The sound is better than stock, but not loud. Est $100 for the muffler and another $100 labor.
13. I purchased a set of the Kumho Touring 732 about a month ago from Tirerack and would say they handle great in the rain. I think it rained every day in June in ATL. $48 is what they sell used tires for in the city.
14. I never posted that I finally solved the brake rattle in my '89. My mechanic traced the noise to two missing brake clips. The small metal clips attach the brake pad to the brake piston. I always hated the rattling noise when driving over bumps. I got two from Jim about eight months ago and that was the last time I heard the rattling.
15. Off topic Padgett...who writes those service manuals? How can they be so precise and thorough. At times it appears as if God is doing the writing. The manuals are worth their price in one repair job.
16. Bingo............at least I am on the right track now. The service manual is great if you know where to look.
17. Yes......the service manual for the Reatta is a 'godsent'. I will study those pages in a minute. I need to get my car running soon. thanks for all your help
18. Thanks Padgett....I will pass info on to my mechanic. I stated 'hard as a rock'. The pedal moves a little bit, but with the engine running the brakes lights do not come on. The lights only came on while driving for a few seconds the day before I lost brake power.
19. Yes I read the brake test when I first purchased the auto (2001)and again last light. The test talks about pumping the brake pedal, my pedal is hard as a rock. No pressure, no lights-on. The mechanic says no power to the pressure switch(sensor).
20. Hello old friends.............my '89 lost all braking while driving yesterday, and I had to have the car towed to my mechanic. The day before the two brake lights came on for a few seconds then when off. Before I lost brake power no brakes light were on or I would have suspected a problem. My mechanic says the pressure switch (925533700) is not receiving current. Before I start ordering parts, what else can I do?? I am driving a loaner can from the repair shop. I thought red light on> big problem, light off> everything okay. My lights were both off while driving. I do remember that at least one light came on at sart-up, I don't remember if both came on but I think so.
21. I think my mechanic finally isolated the source of the brake rattle. I have a '89 and the noise is coming from the driver rear caliper. When one applies the brakes the noise disappears. The source: "the metal clip", which attaches one of the rear brake pads to the piston is loose or broken you are guaranteed to get a rattle over bumps. Use OEM pads and purchase hardware kit ($14.95)
22. Look to be going up. http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2002-08-05-old-cars_x.htm

Got My Rims On!

90RedReatta I finally could open the website and see your wheels. Your car don't look any more jacked-up than most Reatta's. I think my '89 looks the same with stock wheels. I changed the struts and it still looks like a duck out of water. Padgett car is the only photo I have seem that I thought was okay, every other car has the same look as your car.
24. More info needed, where in the trunk is your 12" mounted and how is it mounted?

Sorry I've been down the strut road before and it's a dead-end.
The strut doesn't hold the body up.
