1. Sal... For the sake of this Forum's original purpose and intent, take a "daily" moderating "look" at what is going on here. You cannot "moderate" it by coming on here every few weeks/months (usually prior to a Hershey, Annual Meeting, etc.), disappear for awhile, then, come back with a barrage of editing. If you want cudos for being a Moderator/Admin...great. Now that that is out of the way, clean it up. For the more recent participants, I can assure you, the veteran participants of this Forum certainly "got into it" over the years. I will not deny this, however, the language used lately is totally irresponsible. As Randall, and others, posted recently, the majority of decent people find it offensive. This is the AACA's Forum...not a trash heap for those who would not have the nerve to say it to a person's face. Let's get it together, Sal. Take a good look at how many of the participants have dropped out of regular posting, however, resorted to observing..."me included until this post." 2. Sal, take over bringing this to the top. I'm out of here.
3. Hi, European... I travel about 48-50,000 per year in sales, and, I do recall advertisements that "large, full-service" truck stops have CB repair services. Possibly, there is a repair person with experience at one of them? Wayne will probably be the best source for any validity to what I suggested. Regards, Peter J.
4. Wayne...how about that little "anti-deer whistle" mounted on your driver's side fender of the green & white Pete you showed me. That's pretty slick. Never heard of one prior. As for Jacobs Engine Brake...we are a major supplier of the castings on Jake Brakes. Good business for our Belleville, PA Plant. Their engineers are in the top 5 from my experience as far as tight tolerances. Regards, Peter J.
5. Sal...I saw what Bruce and Wayne started... Good points from both of them. From what they both posted collectively, it is a win-win situation for the member and the AACA. Regards, Peter J.
6. Hi, Pete... I am inclined, however, refuse to respond in detail. Would be a waste of time. You, me, and, others would rather forget the past. "Peace"... Keep up the good info from your extensive knowledge. All of us will benefit within this mutual hobby. Regards, Peter J.
7.

Quote:

Uncool behavior guys. I think you chuckleheads need to go outside and square off at 40 paces mith my old Colt 45's. Remember it's about the people in the cars not the cars themselves.

europeancarnut... Well intended post, however, I assure you that, what I consider to be amusement, will not go away. Many have attempted to eliminate this before to the point that "many" old forum participants simply stopped posting. I learned to read his posts just for amusement. To each his own. He has a right to post, using what seems like "umpteen" different handles over the years, but, that's the way it is... My advise: To avoid becoming aggravated, irritated, or, whatever, simply ignore...there are many good, down-to-earth topics on this forum. The man is knowledgeable, I must say, concerning car issues. The rest is amusing in my opinion. Regards, Peter J.
8. Hi, John... Just my experience to pass on to you. When I had my car re-painted in 1999, I asked Jim Lewis, an old friend who did the work, where/if, I could obtain a spray balm exactly mixed to match the body. I wanted to do some engine area work. Jim gave me the numbers off the old quart cans he used on the body. Went to the place where he bought it. No problem. They told me to wait 20 minutes, went into their computer, mixed the batch, and, "canned" the paint. All cities of any significance, have auto paint suppliers catering to auto body shops. Maybe you could take the original heater to them to match up, or, take as much data so they could research it? Regards, Peter J.
9. Howdy, Wayne...possibly P.U.I. (Posting Under the Influence)?? (I hope not, or, before we know it, the Government will mandate that the Internet enforce similar D.U.I. laws. Can you imagine the day that the Internet must lower it's .10% P.U.I.-to-.08% P.U.I., or, they will slowly "snip" the nations's phone lines until we comply.) Just kidding... I believe what he is saying is similar to the early years of many of us. Buy your first starter house, sell it in time, move up, sell the 2nd house, move up??? Who knows. 10. Dave...I am quite certain that the mandatory rule still applies. About 6 months ago, I recall reading about this in the VTR magazine article listing results. When I attended the Central Virginia British Car Club meet last weekend, they also touted that they will be the host for the 2004 VTR Convention FYI. I plan to attend. Pat...that's quite a trail of paperwork on your bike. Interesting to say the least. Diz...totally agree. Time constraints on my part. I always fancied early '50's MG's. At the annual auction in Atlantic City in 1997, I saw a TD that I thought was great. Told a friend, who went with me, that I could sell the TR6 and buy the TD. His answer: "No, no, Pete...you don't sell, you add on to your collection." My response: "Your right, Andy...Sharon would have me in front of Judge Judy in a New York minute." Forgot about this, Diz...guess it was the 3rd time I almost sold the TR. Regards to all, Peter J.
11. european... As I mentioned previously, I put 54,000 miles on it, not, new and put away. If you go my route, guaranteed you will get to know every "crook & cranny" of the car over 31 years. Some folks have a car collection of 1,2,10, & up... My collection of "1 car" generated my meeting many great people, and, it is not stopping. That's where the old car fun is, and, it is endless, really. Sometimes I will drive it to a get-together, other times, I will tow it due to distance. Whatever...people is the key. Regards, Peter J.
12. Hi, european...back in the mid-'60's, being 2nd oldest of 8, I could afford a 1961 VW Bug. Meanwhile, and I am certain many others here were in the same position, I would envy friends, of whom, their parents bought them new sportscars. Along with muscle cars, sportscars were "the thing" back then. When the TR-6 came out in 1969, I made a promise to myself that I would get one someday. Shipped out to Vietnam in June of '69. (Posted this scenario some time ago...) Had a 2 day pass and was walking down Tu-Do Street near Tan-Son-Nhut outside of, then, Saigon. I saw a business that had all sorts of sportscar pictures/advertisements in the windows. It shocked me to see this. Went in. The deal was you could order a Jag, MG, TR, etc., make payments monthly, then, if I recall, you would let them know 2 months before separation from Vietnam. They would order the car, ship it to the closest port to your home. Well, after my first 8 months in and out of the field, I had a chance to get promoted to SSG E-6 if I would extend my tour by 5 months. Also, Col. Gibson assured me I would have it made with the MACV Joint Liaison Group in Saigon. (Col. Gibson was a tough West Point grad and he did not want to have my "green" replacement just for 5 months. Jumped on it as by extending, I would get out of the Army by 4 months. Well, made a huge mistake. Prior to extending, I gave the OK to have the car shipped to the Port of Baltimore. Till I got back, settled in, the car sat for about 6 months at the docks. My brother Beau and I went to get it. Sadly, it looked like hell sitting there...filthy, had 2 dents in it. We jump started it and headed to Reading. It stopped running twice on the 3 hour trip home (probably bad gas). Worked on it a bit, however, it never ran well. Also, back then, if you bought a car from someone other than a particular dealer, they treated you as a 2nd class citizen. Not many general mechanics were knowledgeable about these cars, too. Sold it, bought a Nova SS in '71. Should have kept it, however, I gravitated back to wanting a TR-6. Bought the '72 and the rest is history. Hi, Diz...I almost sold it twice in the late 1970's as I was traveling a lot with my job, put the car in storage, and, needed the room. I simply could not bring myself to sign over the title in both cases. Really ticked-off one guy, but, I am sure he got over it. Kept it in working order for actually 3 long-term storage periods. As I mentioned, in '94-95, started running it frequently, etc. Regards, Peter J...
13. Diz...now that's a plan. Let's do it! Regards, Peter J.
14. Hi, Diz...I owe you one for giving me the heads-up on parking cars. Regards, Peter J.
15. Here's the scoop... 1972 Pimento Red TR-6. Owned it since new (31 Years). Almost sold it twice in the '70's, then, put it away for a number of years. In the 1994-95 era, I started using it again. Took it to Hershey in '98, 2nd Junior. Hershey in '99, another 2nd Junior. Then got serious. Had it repainted and bumpers re-chromed. Other than that, it original. Engine has never been taken out, interior original. 54,387 miles, of which, I put about 34,000 in the first 3 years. Chassis #85702-U Engine #85239-UE Body #78591 Built Sept. 7, 1972 Shipped to the U.S. Sept 20, 1972 to Genser & Foreman, Inc., Union, New Jersey. Currently a Senior Grand National. Awarded the Bethlehem Star Award at the Councours d'elegance of the Eastern U.S. this past June. Back to driving it a lot more, which, was my plan after I took it through the judging steps. Tooted my snoot enough... Regards, Peter J.
16. Wonder where these guys are now employed...
17. Floyd...I think you hit the nail on the head. Everything you mentioned would benefit attendees and the Hershey Region's successes. My only advise is that the AACA does not put the show on...the Hershey Region is the host. They do not have a website, that I know of, so a phone call is about the only way. Possibly phone National Headquarters (717-534-1910) and obtain a phone number? at the Hershey Region. By the way, welcome to the forum, Floyd. Regards, Peter J.
18. Hi, folks...just bringing the thread back to the top for exposure. Regards, Peter J.
19. Randall, I can appreciate your views. Must agree that Austin and the Universities are great. Spent many weekends in Austin, not to mention Dallas. Bill...may take you up on the invite. For 30+ years, I have been telling Sharon that a return to Texas, before I croke, is a must. Cannot say that for many places, despite their lure. Regards, Peter J.
20. Good for you, Randall... Personally, I plan to go back some day. Spent 13 months at Ft. Hood in 1968-69. Met some of the finest people in that time period. Shipped out for Vietnam in mid-69. I'll be back. Great area if you know how to appreciate what it offers. Regards, Peter J.
21. Hi, Ken... Just my thoughts should Olson's generates a negative response. As you mentioned the concern that there are only 2 bolts, thus, a uniform pressure would not seal. If you cut copper gaskets out of stock sheets, measure as best you can the existing gap. Use a heavier gauge copper to take up the gap, and, the 2 bolts & heavier gauge should be more uniform. i.e...you have a current gap of .030" tightened. Go with sheet at .040/.050". I am certain someone with more experience will chime-in shortly. Regards, Peter J.
22. Hi, Bill... If I recall, there was a saying in Texas to the effect: "If you have been to Texas, you will return" (?) It'll happen, Bill.
23. Howdy, folks...arrived home 3 hours ago from Richmond. Here's the scoop: My TR6 was invited to be placed in an exhibit of every Triumph made, as best as they could assemble. The Central Virginia British Car Club held the deal on Brown's Island in historic Richmond. Had a nice time at the show, met a lot of people (that's where the fun is). However, the show was dwarfed by the great time I had with Wayne, Gloria, and, Mike. --Only gawked at street rods, probably hundreds over the years. Always wanted to ride in one. Thanks, Wayne...our cruising around Richmond was better than the show. (after driving a TR6 it was impressive, to say the least, at the torque of the '32. Brought back a lot of memories.) --Always wanted to meet Gloria and Mike: Thanks, again, Wayne...great time at dinner and a lot of fun with Mike. --Now, as for the picture of me (yellow shirt) that Wayne posted. This angle isn't fair, Wayne. You forgot to mention you were on the left, out of sight, and, I appreciated the artwork of that lady trying to unload the '64 Mustang as much as you and Mike! (Boy, was she a talker, er...looker) --As for the red traffic lights...I was willing to pay any tickets. Heck, I'm the one who told you to stop twice at the next one to make up for any missed one's I caused. (Remember, Mike is my witness!!) --Seriously, had a great time with the Burgess'. Amazing how you meet really nice people via this forum and have a lot of fun. Howard, Amphicar, and, Randall had the same good time recently. Bill Stoneberg: You would have enjoyed the British show. This is only the 2nd one I ever attended and it was nice to see some really rare ones...'54 Swallow-Doretti, '47 Triumph 1800 Roadster, very nice '72 Jensen Interceptor. As for true Texas cuisine, I miss it...last I enjoyed it was in '67 during my Ft. Hood days. Anyhoot, that's it folks, Regards, Peter J.
