  1. Hockeye, Check the gear that is inside the flywheel housing, it is the one that slides when you push on the starter pedal. The teeth may be squared off preventing engagement. The 23 should be quiet when you turn on the ign. the 16 there should be a clicking sound with the ign on ( clutch in the gen.). JB Buick 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  2. Paul, Yes I found the pieces I think you need. Do you need the rod that connects the throttle pedal/bell crank to the carb , the pedal bell crank, and the rod that connects to the steering column gears ? John B Buick 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  3. Paul, I will try to get a pic. of my exhaust and a copy of the parts book page that shows the muffler and tail pipe as a single piece. John, The Mcglaughlin and other right hand drive cars have a lot of different parts, my parts book (1923 4&6cyl) clearly shows a short tail pipe that is part of the muffler. The orignal exhaust on my car matches the parts book, a segmented one like the one in the book, with a short tail pipe coming out at an angle , the pipe itself seems to be straight, the angle created by the rear segment of the muffler. Part # 45137 and header pipe #152064. John Beatty 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  4. Paul, I think I have the linkage pieces you need. I'll check this weekend. Where are you located??? JB Buick 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  5. The parts book only shows the exhaust pipe and the muffler with a short pipe coming out at an angle, and my exhaust on my 22-55 is orig and matches the one in the book. I think most cars had an after mkt. tail pipe made to exit at the rear. The closed cars used a long tail pipe that was connected to the rear floor exhaust heater. JB Buick 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  6. The muffler should be 30" long, with a dia. of 6" The inlet is 2", and the outlet is 1 1/2" the orig tail pipe is about 14" long and exits under the left running board. JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  7. I have heard that monofilament fishing line will also work instead of piano wire. JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  8. What is the battery voltage when cranking?? That tells you the condition of the battery. If low check volt drops on each leg + and - JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  9. It is a master 6, there should be some one who will take it for parts, (a running 28 master engine!!!!!!) JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  10. Joe, For more info you need to get a copy of Dave Chamber's "The Early Years of Buick" that was in Antique Automobile, March/April of 1971, it will answer a lot of your questions. I think Tom forgot to include 50 hp. and is known as a cage valve Buick. Although the earlier engines are the same size, the 23 is different than the older ones. It looks like a complete car, when you get more pics post them, The steering wheel looks like it might have been changed. Be careful with the ign/light switch, as the housing is made of pot metal and quite often falls apart. I think Bob's Automobilia in CA still has some parts for early Buick Good Luck JB 1922-6-55 Sport Touring
  11. The parts manual lists A/C- Titan, for the 6cyl . JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  12. Matteo, Try Bob's Automobila in CA. JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  13. Byron, The 28 is different than the 23 tank and will not fit. 21 and 22 are the same exdcept for the filler neck, the 212,22 filler necks are larger the the 23 but in the same location. I have a extra 22 tank in good shape. The draino and gravel does work, but takes time and is messy. JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  14. My 22 did the same thing after sitting for two years, the fix sounds rough but will work. Start in 1st gear with the clutch on the floor and then on the throttle and off a couple of times, the clutch will break free. Rust has formed on the driving steel plates an stuck to the friction plates. Do this where there is plenty of room. JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  15. John, Next time you need tools like the tap ck McMaster-Carr.com, you can order online and receive the order the next day. I'm not ready for the snow this weekend. JB Buick 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  16. Backfiring through the exhaust is usually caused by the ign system, in the inlet would be a lean mixture or valves. Could be a bad condenser or points. Good Luck, JB Buick 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  17. Turning the ign off with the engine in gear 20-30 mph will pump gas/air mix into the exhaust pipe, when you turn the ign back on the hot exhaust lights it off with a BANG, if your just running a straight pipe you might need a small can to trap the mix. It only needs a few seconds. I used to do that with my 1930 Buick 47, it was really loud in the Boston's Sumner tunnel , but tough on the muffler. JB Buick 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  18. John, What size is your fuel tank on the 23? The tank on my 22 is 22 gal which is only used on the models 41, 54, and 55, and filler neck is on the end of the tank like yours. On the 55 it is because the trunk is in the way. The Canadian models use a lot on different parts, steering wheel dash ,and fuel tank! Working with Tom Black about a speedo cable for you. JB
  19. I have a few extra snubbers, front and rear, like the one in the left pic, if you need one. I also have the Gabriel adjusting wrench. If you need to know what it looks like, I can post a pic of it. JB Sherborn MA
  20. Stan, Have you seen a stering wheel like the one on John Feser's 23-45?? I need one for my 22-6-55
  21. John, The steering wheel on your 23 is also an upgrade, it is from the Sport tourings of 1922 and 1923, only the sport touring had the walnut wheel with the small alum spider.
  22. F/S 490 Chevy parts engine, clutch, steering gear, and frame with front and rear axles, wheels. Parts located in Berlin, MA. JB
  23. I using a 28-29 engine would be easier than a straight 8. The 8cyl engine is muck longer. GMC trucks used the Buick 6 engine into the 30's JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  24. Jerry, I have several that look just like the ones in Marks pic. and are for a 1" shaft. There are sizes from 3/4 to 2 1/4. JB
