  1. So, to make sure there is no wild speculation I was just told (from someone who was there) the car was clipped in the rear sending it into the swale where it went on its side. No driver error. Based on what I was told the picture will not help anyone understand how the accident occurred. Some idiot, distracted or tailgator had no respect for the car in front of them.
  2. Well I just got back from gathering up all the other literature.....wow. We have it spread out on tables and there are some INCREDIBLE pieces. The Vanderbilt Cup literature is insane. Plus tons of cars from A-Z. I'm going to take on the photo and post card project (in my spare time).
  3. Tomorrow I am picking up a treasure load of very early literature. It also will contain a box with a significant number of pre-war pictures, Pre WW1 and Pre-WW2!!! It could add a ton of new photos to the thread that Walt started. I'm not sure we have the time to post many but the ones I saw blew me away! I know...terrible tease.
  4. George, you make a point but try this scenario on: you take a picture of a person, famous or otherwise and post it somewhere. If that same person was injured in an accident would it be acceptable to snap a picture of them in that condition or in the hospital without their permission. I don't think so, it is not the end of the world that we do not get to see the damage nor is it necessary for life to go on. The fact that a professional restorer says it can be fixed is comforting and the fact that no one was seriously hurt. I like a lot of people am curious to the damage and which car as my best buddy is a Locomobile expert and have grown up in the hobby being around these cars. I guess my curiosity will not be satisfied and I can live with that... You are right that full disclosure is the right thing to do but a good restorer will make it better than new.
  5. Trust me, the region does care. It is a major liability for them and national too. Put yourself in the place of a senior citizen approaching a younger person to ask them to get off their bike or other device. While I have no issue in doing so many of the volunteers just do not want to get into fights. It is a tough deal but discussions will take place soon about this issue and many others. I have stopped folks only to get an apology and then see them up on their bikes after they leave me. Golf carts are a whole other issue which is much more difficult to control. This year a new vendor for scooters showed up which did not help things. He will not be allowed back. Snuck in.
  6. As usual Jon exceeds my expectations and is well on his way to getting letters out and engraving done.
  7. You will receive a letter very shortly, you won a First Junior and that is a heavy marble award. It will be shipped to you upon payment of shipping costs. Congratulations.
  8. Joe, I always understand the some people love to put two and two together and come up with 5. Human nature but the explanation is correct and came from the fall meet chairman and will be in our publications. We do not have a forever contract with HE&R but soon there will be a meeting to continue the extension of the current contract. It has been done this way forever. Accept the explanation or not but the FACT is that there is no plan for "Hershey" to be discontinued after 2025 or for that matter any subsequent year. Rumors have been going on for years and each time proven false.
  9. BAD rumor as most of them are. Please read below as the two dates seem to have caused a lot of angst: The Evolution of the Fall Meet Wooden Nickel The wooden nickel changed in 2023. It evolved from displaying the next four Fall Meet dates to displaying the next two Fall Meet dates. Changes to the wooden nickel is no a new concept. In 2022, the wooden nickels went from four future dates to three dates. Prior to 2022, the wooden nickels had four years of up-coming Fall Meet dates. Why does the wooden nickel change? It’s basically one of the “executive” decisions that the Fall Meet Chairman makes. This year, the Fall Meet Chairman decided the wooden nickels would have two lines of dates to make it easier for aging eyes to read. Will the wooden nickel change again? It’s a possibility. As Hershey Region reviews previous Fall Meet items and plans changes that will improve the visitors experience, the wooden nickel and other aspects of the Fall Meet will come under review and face the possibility of change.
  10. Sorry, but once again we are making a mountain our of a moehill. I passed by the display and never counted more than 12 cars for sale. As to the Mercury that drove in the morning of the show it was an error by owner thinking car qualified. Registration Chairman was never told it was modified. Sadly member had a car that did qualify but brought this one and was asked to leave showfield.
  11. Always, go to Hershey Region Main Tent in the Chocolate Field for any major problem. This sure makes me unhappy.
  12. We pride out selves in getting trophies and awards out lightning fast BUT Hershey is a different animal. Jon Curtis has the responsibility of engraving and mailing all awards. It is a monumental task alone but he also helps us with unloading trailers, and all the odds and ends that need to be settled. Letters will go out asking if winners want their awards to be shipped but please be patient. This will not happen overnight! Please do not call in for a few days if that is what you are use to doing.
  13. I hope folks reported this. There are cameras around the complex although it might be very difficult to catch illegal activity. Usually I hear of one or two every year but this seems over the top...not sure what the answer is but apparently we need to address it.
  14. Parking is controlled by HE&R and they do charge $20.
  15. OK a bunch of misconceptions here: National and the Region are partners and we work together closely to ensure Hershey is a great event. My comments usually represent both organizations unless i state I am only acting on behalf of the national club. The difference with our event and possibly others is we have to live with a consent decree after a legal issue was filed against us. So, we do have to live within the rules provided by the state. Unfortunately too many people do not abide by the rules and many do not know they exist as they are simply guests and not even members of AACA. In the history of this club all the Board members have NEVER been given carts. Do not know where that comes from. A select few had carts due to the nature of their business during the week and need to get to all fields and use them on judging day. 6 carts went to officials this year and West and I had a cart. West hardly used his and I usually don't but this year badly needed it.
  16. Rich, I have been anything but silent on this issue! It is very complicated and overseen by a legal agreement with the state. On top of that the rules are explicit but trying to change human behavior is very difficult. I have personally stopped people and they have complied but later on they were right back at it. This is just a very difficult problem to solve. The region has less carts over the last few years but this year a vendor snuck in and rented scooters. People were already renting them so they were allowed to stay but will not be back again. Someone is always testing the rules. Very sad that people find themselves above the rules.
  17. I could go on forever about this year's Hershey and the "Hershey" experience but still limited medically. As always I heard vendors who had a spectacular year and other who were very unhappy. It is like that in any business environment. Overall, I thought it was a great year with a strong crowd and the comradery still one of the most endearing parts of the fall event. I know one thing, a life without Hershey is a greatly diminished life and I want no part of it.
  18. The procedure to get a copy of your scoring sheet is to send a SASE to Stan Kuikowski, our VP of Judging. Stan will send you a sheet marked up with areas of deductions but not your actual point deductions. His address is in the front of our magazine where all the officers are located.

  20. Insane day I am told by everyone with huge traffic and lots of sales....a bit toasty out there but better than wet. Do not forget the literature sale here tomorrow!
  21. Guessing they were having a staff meeting and closed. They have had a lot of problems getting opened in that location. Newly remodeled facility.
  22. One of the fun things to do at night is to stand outside and watch all the cars drive into the Lodge when it is their turn to be auctioned. You get to see the cars actually run. There is no charge to do this. The only thing you do not get to see is the memorabilia. I will know tomorrow whether there are going to be tv monitors in the lobby. It is not always so.
  23. Doug, I am still on drugs but they announced it all over the place....they must have saw you coming!
  24. Savory Cafe just opened yesterday...location on Park Ave is across the entrance to the Wendy's, Red Robin and Dunkin Donuts. Check out their website....w have not tried them yet.
  25. i GOT THIS TODAY: Would you please send out a plea for volunteers to help park the show cars on Friday, Oct.6 ? We are in need of 20-25 additional people. It is crucial that we have adequate coverage on the field to direct the parking properly. Volunteers may call me at 717-566-2901 asap. Thank you! Gloria Mader
