  1. What series is your friends Buick?? The 40-60-use different units, and the 80-90 series uses yet another
  2. The modified division will have their own judging standards. The BCA judges with a 400 point system, and I believe the Reatta division has their own system. The Modified division will have it's first organizational meeting at Batavia, so if you have any input, check with the registration desk for the time and place. Modified Buicks with engines other than Buick will be judged, but will recieve a deduction for a "non buick engine"
  3. I have put over 100,000 miles on my 40 Buick Super, and I put 12,000 on my 69 Buick Sport Wagon last year. If you can't drive 'em, I don't want 'em.
  4. Matt, If you need any 10MM plugs, I have 2-3 boxes of NOS ACs
  5. Lamar, I am not sure I have a good side. I have also ordered a 55 gallon drum of "Grecian 44' hair color, so i can repair the problem!
  6. In 1941, Buick tried 10MM spark plugs. they were a disaster, and they replaced most of the heads with 14MM. The compound carburation was never to my knowledged blamed for any fouling problems. They used the dual carbs in 41 and 42 and dropped them after the war, as they could sell anything, and it cost more to build.
  7. There is a mini-starter available. Go to :www.V8Buick.com
  8. I am with Bruce on this. My son had a petronix unit in his Buick, and it went bad. I have run points in all my Buicks and never had a problem. I race my 72 GS and still use a point system to trigger the MSD box
  9. Seeing that it was an "ultrasound", did it go Vroom - Vroom?
  10. Probably because it is cheap, easy to install, and the after market is making everything you need. They have sub frames, tubular control arms ,and even air suspension if you so desire! I have a power rack in mine, and it drives like my Park Ave, but with the Pontiac Tran Am sway bar ,it corners like a slot car. I built it for the highway with a 2.56 posi in the back, but it runs high 13s in the 1/4 at 100+ MPH and never gets out of second gear. It's FUN to drive
  11. DOT 5 is ailicone brake fluid, and I am not sure why, but it affects some hydraulic stop light switches. I do not know whether the replacement switches have different internal components ,or what, but the older switches seem to stop functioning after a short( 1 year or less) time. I have talked to people that have silicone fluid in their Buicks and have experienced no trouble, but most have. The ones that have the new fluid carry an extra switch just in case.
  12. For what it is worth, my 37 coupe will be at the BCA national meet in Batavia, and it will be in the "Modified" class. It has a mustang 2 front suspension, and a 455! I am a firm believer in doing what you want to your car, because it is yours to do what you will!
  13. There is one class you did not mention, and it seems like the perfect place for your Buick. It is the "Archival " c;ass, ans is for unrestored cars.A buick as nice as yours appears to be is the kind of car they cater to. The BCA has this class so nice original Buicks can come to the meet and feel comfortable. Many people in the past have taken nice originals, and redone them ,andin the process, lost another bit of Buick history. Please, bring it as it is, and enjoy the meet!
  14. If you can find 6 volt bulbs that fit in the sockets, and are brighter, I do not think you will lose any points. The headlight bulbs are a different matter. Any aftemarket headlight bulb will be cause for a deduction. . A lead additive is NOT necessary. I have driven my straight eight 100,000+ miles and have never used an additive, and it still runs fine. The new multi grade ( 90-140) axle lubes are better than the old 600W, but may leak in the steering box. If you are having the car judged, the electric pump is a "NO-NO ! The difference between yhe original exhaust manifold and the "improved" is so slight that it does not warrant the cost. The best upgrade for the brakes that is allowable is installing the Roadmaster brakes on your Super. They are 2 1/4 versus 1 3/4 and do help' I am not sure if this is kosher, but I don't think the judges will catch it. One thing they watch for is radial tires, and in the 400 point system you will be gigged. If you enter the car for the "Driven" award, they are legal. DOT 5 brake fluid is hard on hydraulis stop light switches, so if you do change, carry an extra switch.
  15. I stand corrected! i thought the Bortz Wildcat was Wildcat 3
  16. "Old Car Value Guide" Dec 2004 1-$23,500 2-$16,450 3-$9,400 4-$4,700 2
  17. Brian ,this car is now part of the collection of concept cars owned by Joel Boertz. I saw it at the Gilmore Museum two or three years ago.
  18. I have driven my Buicks many miles. My 40 has traveled over 100,000 with me at the wheel, and the only things changed in the road were voltage regulators ( 2) and a water pump. My 32 Buick had a fan pulley replaced ( the bearing went bad) and the generator went . This was on a trip to California hauling a 1935 17 ft "Covered Wagon" trailer. if you use the car on a regular basis, you know what parts are approaching the replacement time, and those are the ones you should carry. If you have any doubts, you can have extra parts packaged and numbered, and have a friend put them on a bus ,if you need them. You can get them in usually a day or two.
  19. i am not sure on the 67, but if it is like the68-72 the manual says to remove the fender. There is a nut that you can't get ,and the simplest way is to look at the plastic cover under the dash. You will see a round emboss on the lower right hand corner. If you drill a 5/16 hole directly through the center of the emboss, you will remove the head from the bolt that requires the fender removal. This will allow you to remove everything, and a dab of dum=dum in th hole will take care of prying eyes. the 3 remaining bolts will hold the unit just fine.
  20. I'm with Charles on this! The filter fits in the line feeding the rocker shaft!
  21. My 40 Buick came with 4.44 gears, and I installed a 3.42-1 set, and I'm in love. Itmakes a real cruiser out of it!
  22. John, I drove my 32 to California from Flint hauling a 1935 "Covered Wagon" House trailerback in 76, and it was the trip of a lifetime! We covered almost 6,000 miles and had the time of our lives.
  23. Lamar, with that few miles on her, she should be a shoo-in for an "archival" award. If you con't want to stand around waiting for judging, you can also get a "driven" award.
  24. Lamar, it appears that the earlier posts pretty well cover things, but you might want to bring a fuel pump too ,if you have a spare. Unless you just installed one, the old diaphragms are not to be trusted.
