  2. I have put over 100,000 miles on my 40 with the 6volt system, and have replaced the brushes once and the regulator twice. That is MUCH cheaper than $795.The 40 has always made it homeunder it's own power.
  3. I have done it many times. Just make sure all the lights and radio are off.
  4. The original set up was: the hex key fit the doors ,trunk ,and ignition, and the round one fit the glove box. I guess the thinking was you could leave your car for service and not worry about the stuff in the glove box. Before you spend a lot on money on keys, check all your friends old (from the 60s) keys,as they only had 20-30 different keys back then. It used to be interesting to see if your key would fit your friend's car, and hide it!

  6. Terry ,I remember whan you were in the parking lot after the accident, and rebuilt the coupe enough to drive home! I was amazed that you had the tenacity to find the parts and fix it on site. You missed a really nice 39 Century coupe by about 10 months. I found a dandy ,and sold it to a BDE member from Wisconsin. If we don't see you in Batavia, we will see you in Minn.
  7. I am still in the dark! I am a GM employee ,but I worked for Chevrolet. Where are you getting the show cars for the display? Are they from GM, or what ??
  8. I saw this car at the detroit show last Thursday. The most interesring thing to me was the fact that Chip was working on the display ,getting down and dirty, just like the rest of the crew. You really have to see the car to appreciate the workmanship! The character lines down the fenders are fantastic, and the way the fenders and the running boards blend together is GORGEOUS!! The trim also stands out as the perfect accent for the body. I doubt that he will win the Ridler again, as if he does, everyone else will just quit. The car really does deserve it though. The other contenders are nice, but not in the same class!

  10. I stand corrected! The last 90 series was what I should have specified.
  11. The motor mounts from the 400 will bolt on the 455. this makes it work.
  12. I 455 is a direct bolt in for a 400
  13. I don't know how much wattage you are looking for, but I have two 6 volt to 12 volt inverters in parallel in my 40 and they run my a AM-FM radio with a cassette player just fine.
  14. The 364 intake is too small to fit a 401. The difference is in the width. Tha 401 is wider than the 364, and the ports do not line up properly.

  18. I wish I had kept some of those old catalogs too. My Dad ran a gas station, so we got the "Warshawsky" catalog. It was the same as the "JCWhitney" but it was sent to businesses and the prices were about 10%-15% cheaper
  19. The 54 Special originally had a 264 V8. I believe the exhaust manifolds were the same for the 264 and the 322 in 54
  20. I don't know how they do it now, but we used to build engines in saddles, and the pan was almost the last thing on.
