Routing for gas sender wire
Bronze Mist 64 Riviera replied to Bronze Mist 64 Riviera's topic in Buick Riviera
Good things to check on. I'll have to dive in a little deeper next time I get over there. Thanks. Jeff ROA 13051 -
I put in my new tank in the '64. When I tighten the bolts on the straps, it pinches the wire between the trunk floor and the top of the tank. A pinched wire seems bad. 😉 So does anyone have a suggestion for routing the wire so it doesn't get pinched? I've tried a few different positions, but it gets pinched in all of them. I didn't notice if it was pinched by the original tank or not. The tank I got from BestOfferCounts.com appear to be identical to the original tank. Jeff ROA 13051

Gas tank straps painted chassis black?
Bronze Mist 64 Riviera replied to Bronze Mist 64 Riviera's topic in Buick Riviera
Wow! That's a lot of info. Thanks for all the replies. The top of my straps was definitely black and I found traces of black paint under the undercoating. So I cleaned them up and resprayed them black. Hope to get the tank, lines, and new hoses in sometime next week. Jeff 13051 -
I've got my old tank out to replace it. Got a very nice one from James over at Best Offer Counts.com. Check them out. In cleaninig up the old straps, it appears that they may have been painted chassis black? There is definitely a black coating on them that looks just like paint. I've had the car for about 40 years, and my grandfather had it for 15 or so before that and as far as I know, this is the first time the tank has ever been out. I also had to cut one of the bolts off. Anyone know if those were galvanized or not. It looks like they may have been. Thanks all.

I see someone has mentioned Faxon Auto Literature. I can't recommend them strongly enough. Excellent customer service and prices are good. I have purchased books from them many times. Jeff ROA 13051

I'm installing a new master cylinder on my first gen. I've installed M.C.s on several vehicles and each of them came with instructions to bench bleed the unit prior to installation. The new M.C. I just got has a big orange (maybe yellow?) label on it saying to absolutely NOT bench bleed it or damage will occur, but to bleed it on the car. Anybody have any ideas on why this would be the case? Yes RivNut, the carb is a correct AFB. Thanks for the description TelRiv. I think I understand it. I'll have to take a look next time I'm at the garage and see the things you're describing..... Jeff ROA 13051 -

single 4 bbl, 1964 Thanks Jeff 13051 -
Could someone take the time to post some pictures of the top of the engine on your first gen without the air cleaner, particularly the back of the carburetor showing vacuum hose and choke tube connections. I ask because mine are all connected to "something", but I'm sure some of the are not in the correct place, and I'm trying to reroute them correctly. Thanks so much for your help. Jeff ROA 13051

1st Gen carburetor installation
Bronze Mist 64 Riviera replied to Bronze Mist 64 Riviera's topic in Buick Riviera
Thanks for the clarification everybody. Jeff ROA 13051 -
Hi all, I bought a rebuild kit for the carb on my 1st Gen. When I removed the carb, the stainless plate was missing, so I ordered a replacement. The instructions show installing the gasket, the stainless plate, then the carb. Should there be a gasket between the plate and the carb base or not? Thanks for the help. Jeff ROA 13051

Wiper refills for first gen
Bronze Mist 64 Riviera replied to Bronze Mist 64 Riviera's topic in Buick Riviera
Sooooo.....Sorry this took a while. Finally got over to the car yesterday and installed the refills I got on ebay. They fit perfectly EXCEPT they lack any kind of retaining clip to hold them in. They very easily slip in and out of the blade. If my memories of installing refills years ago are correct, there should be a small springy clip at one end that hooks onto the wiper blade. This has to be pressed in on both sides in order to remove the refill. These blades are okay for now, as the car is not yet driveable, but I'm not sure I would want to try to use them while driving. I really wanted them so that if the wipers inadvertently get turned on while I'm working on the car, the blades won't scratch the glass. If they slip out while the wipers are running, the blade will scratch the glass. If I figure anything out, I'll post again. Jeff ROA 13051 -
We just shipped a car from S Florida to Ann Arbor, MI. We used Pilot Auto Transport. We were very satisfied with them and the price was reasonable. One of the nice things about them is they do everything; their truck, their driver, their rep on the phone. No middle person in any of it. Good luck Jeff ROA 13051

Post some pics of your Rivieras!!!!!!!!!!
Bronze Mist 64 Riviera replied to bb1970's topic in Buick Riviera
These are a couple of pics of the car from about 20 years ago. Unfortunately, the car has been sitting in my dad's garage pretty much since then (life and all.....), and it looks it. Beginning the resurrection now. Slow going, but I should have the engine fired in a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed. -
Power Door Locks available in 64 Riviera??
Bronze Mist 64 Riviera replied to emmd61's topic in Buick Riviera
I have thought about putting power locks on my '64 using just the generic door solenoids. Has anyone done this? -
This place says they reline the aluminum drums with new liners. I found them in a forum post on a different board from years ago. Might be worth a call. I know nothing about them. Brake Drum Relining & Refurbishing | McHenry, IL | J&G Brake Relining (jgrelining.com)
