  1. I have seen the blue-green and I have seen black. Mine seem to have been black from the factory.
  2. Special and Century should be the same
  3. Good looking car! You should be able to find a local upholsterer to do his seats for a reasonable fee. Interior panels and headliners with windlace are where the costs really come in.
  4. Yeah, those things are easy to bugger up. The cheap Chinese rubber is lousy.
  5. That’s a start! Now let’s find that engine.
  6. No dilemma here. That car is too complete to pull apart. Let’s use the parts cars that are out there and save the ones we can. More saved equals better chance for repro market.
  7. I believe it would be prudent to also pull the plug wire to that cylinder, too. I wouldn’t want burnt fuel belching back through the carburetor..
  8. Does anyone have any interest in this piece? PM me with an reasonable offer
  9. I appreciate all the helpful advice. If I go with the advice to run the engine without the pushrods for the piston of the offending valve is there a possibility of the valve making contact with the piston? I tried small vise grips, no luck. I believe that in the future I will use a smaller hammer, too.
  10. It certainly hasn’t on my ‘50 Chevrolet.
  11. Who in their right mind would cut something like that up for scrap? The logic escapes me!
  12. I have a ‘53 straight eight which a previous owner had started apparently after it had been sitting for a while. The number one intake pushrod was incredibly bent ( see pic). After removing the rocker assembly I was able extract the pushrod with a pair of channel locks. The valve was closed. After some soaking with Marvel and P B’laster I tapped the valve in an attempt to free it. Unfortunately it only caused the valve to be stuck in the open position. Nothing I have done has brought the valve back to the closed position or free moving. I soaked it overnight and fogged the inside of the chamber with Seafoam engine fogging oil. Anything else I can do short of pulling the head to free this valve?
  13. No offense Brian, but it looks like you may have had one beer too many already. This is the section for Buicks, not Mopars. On the other hand though it looks like you have a good handle and understanding of the situation and should do well. Just save the beer for the celebration afterwards.😁
  14. Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner. I looked at the car in the earlier post, but no luck. It may not be there next time I go. Unfortunately the owner is crushing a bunch of the cars.
  15. Only one post? I’d be Leary. Ask for lots of proof.
  16. Wow. Just found this thread. Love the car. Definitely worth the effort. Don’t let others tell you it’s not a good candidate for a nice driver. I’m working on some that are in about the same condition. They aren’t building any more of them. We have enough parts cars, and the more we save the more likely there will be a market for reproduction parts. Please keep us posted with more pics as you go.
  17. I don’t believe that was an option. Chevrolet still had not solved that problem in the ‘40s. My ‘46 has the same problem. Keep a rubber block on hand.
  18. Which size Buick? Special or full size?
  19. If you want to do a quick freshen up of the exterior paint you could use CLR to remove most of the rust from the paint and making the white a bit whiter. It works fast, wear gloves. I used it on the sides of my ‘50 Chevrolet because I was tired of people calling it a green car when it was actually blue. It won’t help me on the roof or hood however because they are completely surface rusted. Best of luck with your car and keep posting your progress.
  20. Too lazy? It sounds like you have made a lot of progress! I haven’t made any, with the exception of figuring out that I need to remove and clean the rocker assembly and replace a pushrod. Check out Bob’s Automobilia. I’ve purchased a lot of stuff from him, including the same water pump. He’s great to deal with and ships fast. I don’t know what plans you have for the car, but if you aren’t welding competent you could fiberglass the front pans and get inexpensive useable floors. Let us see more pics of the car.
  21. The engine has run. A previous owner had started it prior to my purchase. I have started it only with gas poured in the carburetor . When I removed the rocker cover I discovered that one pushrod was not in contact with the rocker arm. When I attempt to spin the rod between my fingers it will change in height. Leading me to believe that it may be broken, possibly at a 45 degree angle, which would cause the difference in height.
