  1. I have for sale a new GM accessory compass. This is a GM licensed reproduction of the GM compass part # 983335 sold by CARS, Inc. Old Buick parts. This compass was correct for all GM models from 1960-1990. This compass can be installed on the dash or the windshield. I had been looking for years for a compass for my 1963 Riviera. My grandfather had a compass in every car he owned and I had wanted to install a compass in my Riviera to pay homage to him. I purchased this compass and before I got around to installing it I found an NOS Buick 1963 Dinsmore Compass that I will now install in my Riviera. (See last picture) I have attached a picture of the invoice that shows what I paid for this compass. I will entertain reasonable offers plus shipping. PM me if interested. Thanks.

Thanks Tom and Bill, any contact info is much appreciated. If I understand correctly, is the stainless trim and fuzzy sold as a single assembly? I'll also be sure to mention the straight vs. curved piece.

I too would appreciate a link or a part number. Currently battling with a kit of fuzzies from another supplier. A nightmare is an understatement

There are 3 problems with the door fuzzies being sold now. 1.) They have the bend and not straight as original. 2.) they have a rubber V strip instead of the "fuzzy" felt as original. 3.) The attaching portion of the strip is not trimmed on the end that goes under the vent window as original so that it fits flush

Here is a link to a thread on the Forum where I discuss this in more detail with pictures to show what the incorrect strips look like, what the originals look like and what the replacement looks like.

I dealt with Mark Cotter at Repops. I hope he is still there. I know he has helped others since I alerted Repops to the problem. His contact is: markc@repops.com  Good luck.

    Hi folks,

I'm in need of a very nice to excellent stainless trim piece (identified in the attached pix) due to some careless dings made prior to my stewardship (honestly!) It may be a 1963-65 Riv item - someone may know for sure. I'm getting ready to remove the outer door skins to take care of some rattles in the window channel areas. I have a full rubber kit from Rubber The Right Way that's been taking up space for too long, so it's time to tackle this job. Any leads appreciated!

That piece is part of the window the window fuzzy. You either have to buy a new window fuzzy or as EmTee said fix yours as it is stainless. If it has dings that would be hard. Tom is correct. Repops is the only place you can get the correct door fuzzy for our cars. I went around and around with them to get them to produce the correct straight chrome piece. You would be better off contacting them directly as there are still incorrect fuzzies being sold and circulated. I can give you the contact info.

Any of these big enough in circumference that they'll fit snuggly in the bracket? Everything I've found is to small and I wind up cutting up an old bicycle tube to use as a spacer.

    Hi Ed,

Had a nice warm winter day here, low 30's. Went out to the Riviera and checked on the fit of the fuel filter. Snug and tight. My fuel filter bracket (whether it is right or wrong, I don't know) has an adjustment screw to expand the bracket as you would need to do when removing the filter or tighten to hold the filter firmly in place.

@Riviera63Bill, stay inside and watch some football. Not that big of a deal right now.

    @Brtele Brandon, god information.

Anyone, were the filters from the facory green like the engine, blue like othe Delco things, or natural?

    Thanks,E

For the filters that I have seen and/or purchased for my Riviera they have been either the gold cad as in the picture earlier in the thread or silver. When I had my Pontiac's those filters tended to be the blue ones.

    Ed,

The filter measures roughly 1 7/8" in diameter. As far as I recall they do fit in the bracket snuggly. For sure, much better than the aftermarket versions. When it warms up I will venture through the snow out to the Riviera and take a look.

I'm sure I'm simply overlooking something, but I cannot find the part number for a 3-barb fuel filter on Wix, NAPA, Summit, AC Delco's search engines.  I can find the part number if I enter my engine as the 425 w/AC, but there never seems to be an option for 401 w/AC.  Am I simply overlooking something.  I would like to think the 401/425 fuel filters are interchangeable, but they are different part numbers for the 401 and 425 without AC.

    Thanks for the assistance.

For anyone that is looking for an original AC Delco fuel filter here is a list of filters that I have been able to piece together through the years that will work on the 401/425 engines with A/C.

    GF 67, GF 95, GF 96, GF 415, GF 418 and GF 423

These filters also have a 7 digit part number.

    5650104 (GF67), 5650782 (I think this is GF 418), 5651305 (GF 423), 5650781, 5651098 and 5651255

Through the years I have found the GF 423 to be the most readily available. I have on occasion seen the GF 67 and GF 96, the others I don't recall ever seeing.

  10. I first met Kevin at the 2015 ROA Meet in St. Charles and was fortunate to be able to reconnect with him at several other events through the years including the BCA Heartland Regional this year. He always had a positive attitude and loved talking Buicks. He would unselfishly share his vast knowledge or lend a hand to anyone that needed it. It is people like him that make the old car hobby such a great thing to be a part of. I was privileged to have known him. He will be missed.

That’s what I’m hoping to find. I’ve noticed a few pairs for $500 and a drivers side for $250. Maybe something will pop up that will be exactly what I need without having to purchase both sides. I’m starting the search for these hard to find parts before I start on the restoration.

    PM sent.

We opened the end of the box to confirm that the color of the carpet was the same as printed on the box - gray.  In the 1965 standard colors, gray carpet came with trim color 604 - white. The upper instrument panel, steering wheel are also listed as gray.  That’s why I’m asking if you have a 1963 color - trim book to see if that might have stayed the same throughout the three years of the first generation Riviera.

    Ed,

I used my 1963 Color-Trim book. No gray listed. Silver carpet, steering wheel and headliner are the only things listed remotely close to gray in color for 1963.

    Tom,

Do you or does the ROA library have color and trim books for 1963 & 1964?  A guy down the street just acquired a 63 and a 63 parts car.  In the back seat of the parts car - burgundy w/ white interior - was an unopened box with a brand new set of gray carpets.  He’s trying to figure out if the gray carpet is correct for those colors ( that would have been correct for 1965 but things do change.)

can you also give me and idea for the value of a fair 1963 hood - some rust in the nose. The one on his parts car is somewhat better than the the one on my 63 which was damaged in an engine fire.

    Thanks,

    Ed

    Hi Ed,

Is it possible the carpets are silver? In 1963 the Silver Leather and Silver Vinyl interiors both came with silver carpet.

  16. When I purchased my 1963 in 2014 it needed an exhaust system. We have an excellent muffler shop where I live and they were able to bend me the exhaust system I needed. This system is still solid and going strong. Any competent muffler shop should be able to do this for you. Here are some things I learned along the way.

1.) Upon the advice of fellow forum member Tom Mooney I had the shop use the pattern for the 1965 GS exhaust system. Tom had pointed out to me that the GS system had fewer bends. This saved time and money.

2.) As Rivnik said, the Riviera exhaust system was designed to be quiet. If you want quiet go with the resonators and the rear transverse muffler. If you want a little more rumble leave out the resonators. I opted to go without the resonators and an original Riviera transverse muffler. It gives a nice rumble without being obnoxious.

3.) As was pointed out in the forum in the past and here by Rivnik, drill a 1/8" hole at either end of the transverse muffler to allow water to escape. Since the muffler is so far away from the engine the exhaust cools, condenses and sits in the bottom of the muffler. This will rot the muffler and decrease its life. Had I found this out sooner I am sure my first muffler would still be in service.

4.) This is just my opinion and I know that things can be done in different ways but, trust the Buick engineers. They designed that transverse muffler for a reason. I know they can be pricey, but if you can source an original transverse muffler, do it. As has been pointed out many times on this forum on a variety of topics, doing things in the way God/Buick intended can save trouble and heartache down the road.

I cannot find where to get the correct rear track arm bushings for a 1964 Riviera.  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.  Member help in the past has been great.

Do you mean track bar bushing? I got mine from NAPA. Tom Telesco (telriv) may have them as well.
