  1. In 1969, the Corvair had a 7:00 x 13 two ply, 4 ply rated tire on all models , according to GM Heritage site.
  2. Our town has a designated area, at the police station ........ with several video camera focused on that specific area.
  3. These 7:00 x 13 Firestones look like the tires on my '69 Corvair.
  4. Oldcarfudd, I wanted to have the car "evaluated" for two reasons. 1. I have never been to a meet in my life, either AACA or VCCA. I would like to do so, before all the sand runs to the bottom of my egg timer. (Not everyone will understand the timer comparison, sorry). 2. Except for the radials, I FINALLY own a car that is factory original and equipped just the way it left Willow Run. I am confused by the comparison of class judging vs HPOF, so my wording may not be correct, as I write. I will obtain the 2018 Judging Book, when its available, then I will study. Bottom line, I have zero interest in flashing a trophy around, for the sake of obtaining a trophy ........ but I would like the car to be recognized for what it is. Make sense ..... or not ? I hope it makes some sense.
  5. LOL, you have a valid point there, cahartley.
  6. No, Roger, don't know at this time as to which meet I will attend. Maybe none, after reading the importance of having the darn bias belted tires on the car.
  7. Doug, I have 5 radials, including the spare. I do have the T3 headlamps on the car, no evidence in the records provided to me that the headlights were ever replaced. With 28,000 total miles, I would imagine it didn't run too much during the night. I would probably never consider throwing the car into the judging arena , but it has been nicely preserved, over the years. Thanks for your information, Doug.
  8. Frantz, it may be something I would consider.
  9. Cars with turn signals are safer than cars without turn signals. Cars with seat belts are safer than cars without seat belts. Radial tires are a safer tire than bias belted tires. As car collectors, we know the "good and bad" about tire life, tire durability, etc. That being said, my initial question was about point deduction for radial tires, nothing more.
  10. UGH ..... being that I have not been to a judging event at AACA or VCCA, this is a lot to attempt to digest, at least for me, it is.
  11. Thanks Frank, nothing is "out of stock", except the 13" Firestone radials. To lose 25 points for 5 radials is a big hit, isn't it ? It seems so, to me.
  12. Thank you, yes, the car looks as good "in person" as it does in the photo. Original owners had the car 31 years, second owner had the car 17 years, now I'm the third caretaker.
  13. The radials were not available in 1969 on Corvairs.
  14. Yes, the 6 volt DELCO replica was made with plates and acid.
  15. I have been an AACA member for a short time, certainly do not know much, if anything at all, about AACA Judging, . I own a 1969 Corvair 500 in showroom condition, with 28,000 miles. In 2018, I would like to attend AACA events and have my Corvair judged. The car is a survivor, not restored. It is bone stock, except for 13 inch Firestone radials. What is the judging position that AACA will take, with the radials being on the car, instead of the bias belted tires ?
  16. The helpfulness to a member in trouble was great !
  17. The battery I purchased from Antique Auto Battery was not a gel battery. It was a reproduction of the 6 volt DELCO battery.
  18. I purchased a 6 volt battery from Antique Auto Battery to replicate the stock battery in my stock '51 Chevy. Not inexpensive. I always use a Battery Tender for my 6 volt and my 12 volt batteries. After less than one year, the Antique Auto battery was dead, would not hold a charge. I took the battery back to Antique Battery, they would not honor their warranty. Antique Auto Battery told me the battery was not "defective", instead they stated I did mot maintain the battery with a trickle charger. But I did. Bought a new 6 volt battery from TRACTOR SUPPLY, all is well with the new battery ...... and the Battery Tender. That "new" battery has been fully charged for two years now.
  19. Just an amazing car ! The detail in the ebay ad leaves little room for questions ..... great detail provided.
  20. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Hendersonville, North Carolina !
  21. Marty, congrats on your post # 4,000 ! I will echo what others have already stated and simply say " thank you" for the guidance and direction you have provided to me, as I mutter my way through the world of AACA. You have made my AACA journey more rewarding, for that I am appreciative. To solve the concern, regarding meeting all of us, we'll all meet at your place for a week of fun and frolic. You name the time. Best wishes for the next 4,000 posts ....... I'll be reading them as long as I'm around.
