  1. The trunk repair is coming along and all I have left to do is the final seal coating of the trunk and I will be done. I cleaned the trunk area and pan, then seam sealed it and sprayed a coat of undercoating on it to give the final sealer a rough surface to bond with. Should be ready to do that this weekend if the weather stays some what warm.
  2. Sweet car. You going to keep the big "Whip" on the back? It's kinda an Amphicar. Land yacht version.
  3. Look like the magnesium wheels. My neighbor has them on his 1960's era Sand Flea dune buggy.
  4. Hello all, I'm would like to know where to look to find the transmission ID numbers on my 1961 Mercury Meteor 800. I was hunting all around for the tag they usually put on them, but no luck. Dont know if it fell off or if the transmission even came with one. Pretty dirty and oily so if I knew where to look it will make it a little easier. The can only has drive and low on the gear selector. Maybe a two speed Merc o matic???? Thanks
  5. I got the trunk pan all welded in and cleaned up this past weekend. Now I have to clean the old trunk coating and get everything de greased and ready for the seam seeler. Once that sets up then its time for the final texture coat. After that's all cured then I will be rolling the old girl out and get it up on stands and power wash the under side to get it cleaned. Then back in and garage and start getting ready to undercoat and paint the frame and body pan.
  6. Thanks for all the input on this question. The car has power brakes, 11" drums and the shoes are 2" wide all the way around. All the steel lines look good on the outside. No corrosion or bad rust spots. It's an Arizona car so bad rust is not a problem. All the lines will be flushed out. The master cylinder will be replaced along with new wheel cylinders, drums, shoes, hoses and hardware. All the mechanics of the car will be checked for wear and replaced if needed.
  7. Outstanding work Roger. Outstanding! I don't know how you can machine pieces that small. I'm a machinist in the Guard for F16 aricraft and it gets pretty hairy with tight tolerances on parts, but to make pieces that small I would go cross eyed. Keep up the great work.
  8. Roger, Thanks, but I have more to do to get to the final result. The gold looking pegs are called "Clecos" They are used alot in the aircraft sheetmetal industry. They are like having little hands holding everything in place why your working. I will attach a video of how they work (hopefully it works). You can buy them on Ebay for about $20 a set. Hope this answered your question.
  9. The nice thing is that all the parts are on the car. Trim is in good shape just needs to be cleaned and new rubbers. Has the original glass. All FOMOCO etched in it. I found a bunch of paperwork in the glove box when I bought it. I have a bill of sale when an owner bought it in 1969 for $574.00. There also was a letter from his brother from home, a insurance sheet, a vehicle inspection from the Army post out here in Arizona, a cash advance he took out to send money home to his wife, and the cars owner manual from 61. All the paper work was dated early 1969. I know he was an Army troop and even had one of his stipes from his uniform. It's going to be restored to the original colors and configuration. It's so cool to buy a car and find out you got someone elses life from that period in time.
  10. AJFord54, The brake pedal pad has very little wear. The brake pads are worn down to the rivets. I wouldn't of guessed back then they would put the clips back on since the wheel held the drum on anyway. Not much rust at all exept the trunk pan was shot. Someone bent the rear of the trunk lid and adjusted it out so it would shut. That's where all the waer went in at. I know about the cold. Lived in Michigan, Ohio, and Wyoming. That's why I live down south.
  11. Hope all you folks had a nice Turkey day. I got back on the trunk and got all the side trim pieces done and trimed out for the pan. I have it all posistioned where it's going to go now I just have some final trimming and will be ready to weld it in. Hope to be seam seeling it in a week and then the final coating.
  12. I pulled one of the spark plugs on the old Merc and it's labeled "Prestolite". Never heard of that brand. Could they be the original plugs? The wires are marked "Belden". When I pulled the rear wheels the factory stud drum clips were still on the drums. I'm beginig to think that the 89000 miles are the original miles.
  13. John, If you need any machine work or metal fabrication let me know. I'm just down the road from you out in Vail AZ. You can PM me for contact info. if you like. Hope you find the part. Martin
  14. John, If it flew up maybe it could of landed on something high (top of a cabinet, shelf, in a open box or can) Just a thought.
  15. Here is a link to a company that sells mold making supplies for casting different types of mediums. Worth a try. www.tapplastics.com
  16. I have a small CNC mill. Just wanted to see how involved it was to make.
  17. Do you have a picture of what you are trying to locate? Can it be machined on a CNC mill? Just curios.
  18. That always seems to happen. You got a project your working and want to get it done and then...... Equipment malfunction right in the middle of it. It really takes the wind out of the sails. I own a custom metal fabrication shop and when something goes down and orders are starting to back up the stress meters pegs out. You then have to stop everything, troubleshoot the problem, find the part and overnight it to fix it. Days like that it seems like more money goes out than comes in. Just like GaWajn said, you got to roll with the punches.
  19. Been working the trunk side pieces still. One side is starting to take shape and not look to bad. It's been a challange to get the curve to flow right. I undercoated the fuel tank support bar on the inside and drilled holes for spot welding for when the pan goes in. I just have to work the worst side and be ready for the pan fit and finish.
  20. I have talked with John and actually bought parts from him. Nice guy. Been trying to reach him the past couple of days and can't get him on the phone. I'll keep trying though. Has a few other parts I've been looking at. I tried Mac's, Obsolete, Dennis Carpenter and a couple of Mercury only parts places. Nada. Thanks for the info so far.
  21. Hello, I'm looking to change out the body mounts on my 61 Mercury Meteor and I'm finding that no one carries them. Is there a a ford model that uses the same size mounts? It's the full size model. Thanks
  22. That is a very nice truck. I see your dilemma. I too am very picky with my vehicles. Like the one fella said, he drives his only on nice days and takes care of it. People really like seeing the old classics running on the roads. You only can go forward in life. There's no reverse. I'm sure you will decide what's right for you and will enjoy it either way. It's what makes YOU happy.
  23. Thanks GaWajn, You have a nice project going yourself. I should have some more pictures coming next week. Hope to have the trunk pan all finished inside and out by Xmas. Here are some pictures of one of my earlier project. Never built a bike before. Watched a lot of those bike shows and figured if they can do it I can too. Had it for a couple of years and enjoyed it and then decided to move on to a car. That way the whole family can go some where.
