Looks kinda like what Johny Cash was singing about in "one piece at a time"! -
Those prices are fantastic today but, at the time was still a good chunk of change. The biggest problem for cars during the war was not the parts but, the tires. The whole reason for war time gas rationing was based on tires (rubber that came from trees and in un-available locations) I've talked to many junk yard owners, 60 years ago now, that had managed to put tires inside of tires to drive on and would sell them to their customers. Living today in a throw away society, people just can't imagine doing things like that or scraping together junk to use.

I seem to make out a 36 on the tag. So, it's definitely after that and before WWII. The reason I say before WWII is the scrap drives would have scooped these up.

Welcome to this crazy place.....no! Good place just crazy people. Me included. Enjoy.

Someone put it in there for a spacer not knowing where else to put this spare/left over part he had.
-
Just a thought with no knowledge on the unit. Could this ring have been installed as a spacer to keep the sliding gear from coming against the case? I don't mean a factory thing, I mean by some early mechanic trying to correct a problem he found.

Wouldn't want to meet up with that desperado. -
Then to be helpful, you should explain you can't use a 3 brush 6 volt generator on a car that may have been converted to 12 volts.
-
No offence meant Terry, but your not the only amputee out there. Note my handle "Hook"
-
Exactly! However, if he bought a generator off Ebay for his 1934 that was listed for a 1934 then his concern is much more than 2 or 3 brushes.
-
Then why is there a discussion on 2 or 3 brush generator if the car is set up for 12 volts?
-
What do you mean when you said, you replaced the original "12 volt" generator the car came with? 1934 with 12 volt?

Yes and it leaked like a sieve and had structure across the front cowl area inside the car. It was destroyed when it came back to the plant from Florida. The new production Lincoln Zepher Continental had a shorter front hood/fender design. -
Same with Franklins or other air cooled. Another thing is the construction of the piston.
-
As your comments note, the replacement cost of batteries is prohibitive. So your nice new EV is a dream. What do you think used EV's will be worth at trade in time or on the used car lot when they may only be good for a few more thousand miles before they need a battery? There will be no used car market, just expensive junk!

The "I thought I had heard everything" thread for today

Yea they did. That was so if a plug broke you could carve down the end of a corn cob, shove a wire thru it, screw it in and continue on!! hahaha. Also many cars used the 7/8-18 SAE threaded plug as JV Puleo mentioned. But they lasted well into the thirties. -
