  1. Mine has a broken spring and was wondering how you guys have dealt with this issue. Custom interior, front handle on drivers door. Steve
  2. I had bought the complete kit for my '65 quite awhile back and installed most of it. The kit is very good quality and fits well - manufactured by Repops. They include new staples which they recommend using and I did, finding them relatively easy to use once I got the hang of it. As they suggest, I used the pre-drilled holes in the felts to drill new holes for the staples. The only ones I hadn't installed were the outside door pieces since they required removing the door skins to access. Well, I finally had other reasons to remove those skins so I got to finish the installation. In that process was another learning curve that I thought others may find useful. Having become an expert at this I proceeded doing the same process as above. NOT such a good idea here. Something I had paid not a bit of attention to is those weird 'notches' on the tops of the doorskins. Here is what I learned. Those 'notches' are there for the original staples! I find it quite amazing the amount of thought the designers put into these things. How I figured this out is when I tried to put my stainless molding with the new felts onto the door, they didn't fit correctly. And since I had used the last of the supplied staples, I had to rethink this operation. I ended up cutting new notches in my door skins, which was added work and time to a seemingly easy task. So if you're contemplating this procedure - be forewarned. Also, if this has been covered in the past, forgive me as I hadn't seen it and you can disregard this post. Steve
  3. Geez, and I just placed my first order with them on the 16th of this month thinking I would have my parts by now.
  4. I bought the Custom Autosound 630 and their appropriate 'dual cone' speakers. The system is installed and working fine, the only slight problem being the same as Alini's. Luckily, I had my dash pad recovered over the old existing stuff which raised the speaker grille just enough for the magnet of the speaker to clear the area Chris mentioned. Steve
  5. When I got my '65, the seat would only click; no movement whatever. I took everything apart & removed hardened old lube, cleaned and relubed. It has worked great since. Steve
  6. Mine is the same way Chris. However, my drivers is power; don't know if that makes a diff. Steve
  7. Thanks for responding, Pat. The service manual shows an older 'monogram' with nuts on the back so that was of no help. I will let you know how it goes. Steve
  8. I would like to remove this piece so I can detail it and the door but am not sure how to go about it. I see two round plastic fasteners on the backside; how do I remove them without breaking? Steve
  9. Chris, the shop that installed my Clarks stuff also used new burlap underneath, so it should be available. Steve
  10. Looks like the clamp/bracket around the drier attaches to the other bracket that bolts to the core support. If you need any others just let me know. Steve
  11. While we're on the subject of the glove box door, would someone please tell me the safe way to remove the emblem on the door. I've noticed the two small, round plastic fasteners(?) on the backside but don't want to break something without asking the folks who have gone before me. Steve
  12. My '65 doesn't have a power ant. Has anyone tried an aftermarket unit that works? Steve
  13. I've had that thought, Chris and before I tear into them again I'll give them some time. Luckily this car has the drivers power seat so I can lean it back to where I can drive it. Not so with the pass. side. But they are quite solid. Steve
  14. Bernie, always appreciate your input. I do know how to operate those side cutters as I completely dismantled the upholstery before sandblasting & painting the frames. Not very familiar with the hog ring pliers though. Don't know why this shows in italics sometimes, either. Steve
  15. Finally took some photos; just in case. The first one is rotated incorrectly. Also, difficult to get good lighting up there. Steve
  16. Could you please elaborate on the process of getting this book? I would really like to have one. Steve
  17. Ya know Ed, I had removed the seat and had it on the table to try removing the rear two hard rubber biscuits (pass. seat) that go between the sliders and the seat base. But I kept looking at them thinking, why am I modifying these to compensate for the (incompetent) work that I paid good money for. Not mentioned in the 'Short Version' of this story is the fact that I employed this trimmer because, first he was recommended by knowledgeable people in the business and, secondly he convinced me that he has done numerous bucket seats such as mine over the years and was profoundly familiar with every aspect of them, including how much foam was necessary to keep from the exact problems I'm now experiencing. I had already taken them back to him once because I felt that the 'shape' was incorrect and the buttons did not set 'into' the pleats as they did originally. He kept them for 10 weeks and barely adjusted the problem. When I just recently got them installed and noticed the 'firmness' I was not going to return to him as I don't think I will ever get satisfaction there. But I decided that he should know of the situation before I take them to someone else in our rather small town and before he starts hearing of my dissatisfaction through a 3rd party. That is when he gave me his 'diagnosis' of the cause and why I thought I would seek others experience with Clarks upholstery. Whew , Steve
  18. Ha, that's a good one Pete. The problem is that my head is too close to the top but more uncomfortable is the seat backs. They have you sitting straight up and forward where your lower back doesn't even contact it. Not exactly a luxury car feel. Steve
  19. Yes Winston, all new foam supplied by the trimmer. He claims that even if he removed it from the seat it would still not give due to the stiffness of Clarks product. (?!)
  20. I have searched this forum using different terms and have been unsuccessful at finding an answer to the question: Will '63 - '64 stainless molding fit the wheel openings of a '65? I'm sure that I read here that '65 had different mounting locations and were inclusive to only '65. I'm looking to buy some for both the rear wheel openings but want to have my facts straight first. Steve
  21. The Short Version: I bought my upholstery from Clarks awhile back and took it and the seats to a local guy for installation. They turned out very firm, to the point of being uncomfortable. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this as my highly experienced trimmer wants to blame it on the 'heavy' quality of the material Clarks uses. Steve
