Floors and frame are all very solid. Interior is decent but the color has faded over the years. I have all 4 hubcaps. All lights, turn signals, gauges, wipers and horn work. All glass is in good shape. Will need trailered due to tires and brakes. Clean title in my name. Asking $7200 or best offer. No trades. Located in Shreve Ohio Contact: Call or text. 3. For Sale: 1961 Rambler Classic Cross Country Wagon, 6 cyl., manual w/OD, 66K miles - $12,900 - Fairlee, VT 1961 Rambler Classic Cross Country Wagon - cars & trucks - by owner... (craigslist.org) Seller's Description: I am selling my 1961 Rambler Classic Wagon. It was driven to the northeast from Oregon a couple years ago. I bought it in New York, it is home in VT now. I would drive her across country tomorrow with no hesitation. Six-cylinder standard with overdrive. just under 66k original miles. The body is in very nice shape with no rot whatsoever. There is a spot on the top of the driver's fender where I can see it starting to bubble. Interior is nice with newly done door panels and front seat, carpet. I believe the rear seat to be original and beautiful. A few dings etc, no bodywork anywhere. It has had a partial nonprofessional paint on some of the red areas, still presents nicely. Needs nothing to be a nice driver. I do have new shocks here for it, and some miscellaneous other things, nice shop manual included. I also have a pair of new old stock cruiser skirts for it. These wagons are hard to find, this one turns more heads than Mustangs and Camaros, you just don't see these anymore. Asking less than I have into her, may trade for vintage airstream or similar, doesn't hurt to ask. odometer: 65800 Contact: no phone listed Copy and paste in your email: 50aa14780e59351084f954b21f6191ca@sale.craigslist.org I have no personal interest or stake in the eventual sale of this 1961 Rambler Classic Cross Country Wagon.

  5. The Jet 202 ci L-head six does have a dubious distinction of being the last L-head six-cylinder engine designed, tooled and produced for use in an American passenger car.
  6. The prominent reverse-angle roof line wasn't aesthetically everyone's cup-of-tea but had a definite sales motivation driving its initiation. Mercury, which had experienced increasing sales volumes through the postwar period up to 1955, as generally did its other medium-priced competitors, all experienced the rather sudden contraction of the segment though 1960. Reasons attributed to this sea change were discontent with burgeoning size, lavish, outlandish styling, poor build quality, offset by rising interest in compacts and imports abetted by the Eisenhower recession. At Ford, Robert McNamera was president, cited the money losing Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln Division (MEL) as target for significant cutbacks in expenditures. With Edsel dismissed, and Lincoln directed onto a consolidated model line that would eventually yield success, Mercury too was to be reined in. The method selected was to return Mercury to share the Ford platform albeit with mostly its own identifiable styling. The results weren't quite distinctive enough, recognizably a glamorous Ford again. This reconfiguration didn't set off any 1961-'62 sale boon but did cause Mercury dealers to give district sales personnel feedback that buyers recognized the Mercury wasn't much more than a restyled Ford. Not much could be done until the next major restyle for 1965. But the top could be modified without major expense, so stylist reached into their bag of already used tricks to come up with the reverse-angle 'breezeway' feature last used on the 1960 Lincoln Continental Mark V's. Unlike every other FoMoCo body style, the 'breezeway' top was exclusively limited for Mercury's use. Along with greater differentiation from Ford styling, proved to be popular with Mercury buyers, primarily the four door sedan models, Since the roof shell was utilized by both two and four door models, it comes off a bit awkward on the two door with the large quarter windows. When the all-new 1965 Mercurys were developed, all breezeway models were four door sedans only since the two-door fastback was the current trend. Even the four-door hardtop shared its body with the new Ford semi-formal style. The severely rectilinear 1965-'66 Mercury styling complimented the reverse-angle breezeway. That would change for 1967 when Mercury was given the softer, coke-bottle quarters which would clash with the angular. A breezeway power backlight was a catalog option for 1967-'68 four door sedans with their coved rear windows, but it only retracts two inches under the shadow of the upper edge. Make an astute observation, get a dissertation. Steve

  11. For Sale: 1963 Imperial convertible, 75K miles, A/C - Project - $4,000 - Danbury, CT - This posting has been deleted by its author. 5-5-2023. 1963 Imperial convertible - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle... (craigslist.org) Seller's Description: 1963 Imperial convertible, a barn find, except instead of a barn, in has been in storage containers and in public storage for about the last 25 – 30 years. It has been under a roof for much of its life. It is a rare car, one of 531 Imperial convertibles Chrysler built in 1963. It has a 413 cu. in. engine, a push-button transmission, air conditioning, electric windows and power seat. The odometer shows 75,145 miles, which I believe is accurate. The car is not running. The engine does not turn over with the starter. I have not tried to rotate it with a bar and socket. Some wheels didn’t turn when it was moved to its current location, probably because the brake cylinders are frozen, which is not a difficult repair. The body is O.K. There are some bondo bubbles around the rear wheel wells from a poorly done paint job back in the 1970’s. Paint has peeled off the hood. The pictures show the car as it sits. I did wipe off the hood for one shot, but nothing has been cleaned or polished otherwise. The metallic red interior is all original and quite nice. The dash pad, steering wheel, door panels and other items that are often in bad condition in older cars are very good. The leather seats are good for their age also.I have a number of parts for the car, e.g. a grille in very nice condition, a rear bumper, some chrome trim and other things that will be rediscovered as I clean up the garage and basement.Without too much work, the car could be restored to prize-winning condition. I was going to do it, but I have gotten to be too old. Contact: no phone listed. The Standard Catalog of American Cars, 1946-1975, edited by John Gunnell states 531 1963 Imperial convertibles built.
  12. Robert Here is the best I can bring the image up. Hope it helps. Steve
  13. Brings to mind the 'joy' of owning an import car in the late 1950's through the mid-1970's. Other than VW and M-B, every area had a "foreign car garage". Typically, a single bay garage surrounded by a sea of imported makes all waiting repairs as parts availability was dismal. The other issue was domestic make garages either weren't equipped or simply prejudiced against repairing those 'furrin' junkers.

  15. Noted in the 1941 Buick Special section of the sales catalog for all models except the Special 40A and Limited that I have: "The standard power plant is the 115-horsepower Buick Fireball straight eight - an engine stepped up in power by nearly 8% over last year without increase in engine size or fuel consumption. Designed to take advantage of fine modern gasolines, it operates with new economy on any standard-priced motor fuel of 70 to 75 octane rating. At slight extra cost, both greater power and greater economy can be secured by the addition of Compound Carburetion. With this fuel supply system, developed power is increased to 125 horsepower while gasoline mileage goes up as much as two miles per gallon."

  17. The only recollection of an OHC-6 Tempest was a 1967 base model four door sedan automatic in this same blue that belonged to a friend's parents. It was set up for economy with something like a 2:87:1 differential, was kindly referred to as "the gutless wonder". Being a teenage driver, my friend wasn't thrilled with the car, used to, as he would say "kick it in the a**", flooring the accelerator to get it moving. His folks liked the car because it was a slug...

  22. This seems appropriate now we're in May. Although I have no way of knowing for sure, one of the men marching may have been my maternal grandfather Daniel O'Connell as he was a Great War veteran.
