Reading 803,000 instead of 80,300 I have since had it verified that it is 80,325 it needs some additional work but for 58 years old it still be a great runner. email me with any questions. 2. For Sale: 1924 Overland Model 91 Coupe - $7,995 - East Windsor, CT 1924 Willys Overland Coupe - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle... (craigslist.org) Seller's Description: For sale is a rare 1924 Overland coupe recently pulled from a 30 year slumber in a local barn. The wood is very solid, the body appears to have been repainted a long time ago and the rear panel was changed out I’m guessing at that time. Remarkably this little gem started right up with minimal work but will need the carb and tank cleaned out. The lights work and it has a new battery. Overall, this would be a great restoration candidate or put a few weekends into it and drive it as a survivor. I would keep this car but at 6.5 driving it is almost impossible. 4. For Sale: 1964 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible, 39K miles - $31,500 - Calverton, L.I.N.Y. 1964 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle... (craigslist.org) Seller's Description: I am selling this car for the owner. It runs and drives pretty good. On a scale of 1 to 5 this car is a 3. The Caddy was painted 20+ years ago, but it still looks pretty decent. The leather interior is in good condition, it has the front bucket seat option. The tires are recent, and the exhaust is new. It has power windows, that all work, the power convertible top operates like it should. The power seat works, although it is slow. The wipers, gauges, lights and horn all work. The heat works sometimes, all the a/c components are there, but the a/c does not work. It has power steering and brakes, tilt steering wheel and power door locks, that work sometimes. The original AM/FM radio is still in the dash, but not working. There is a CD player in the trunk. A new set of front shocks would make the caddy ride better and maybe a new bushing or two. And finally, the driver's front floor and the passenger's front floor will need some repair. Oh yeah, a new carpet would make the interior look great. As with any classic car the caddy is being sold as is. You are welcome to have it inspected. odometer: 39800 Contact: THOMAS VOTINO (516) 7-six-9-2-8-4-two Copy and paste in your email: 382de3df929a3104b39db92fc726d8c2@sale.craigslist.org I have no personal interest or stake in the eventual sale of this 1964 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible. 5. Thanks to MetroPetro et al who shared photos of this recreation of the bygone flea markets. Would have loved to attend.
  6. Initially, the Lafayette was a large, expensive V8 luxury car introduced in 1920 which, though ostensibly independent, was in reality created and backed by Charlie Nash. Parallel to the Leland-built Lincoln V8, both struggled in the post-WW1 recession economy, Nash eventually folding the operation in early 1924 after fewer than 1,900 cars had been build. For 1934, the lowest-priced Nash series was renamed Lafayette as a separate nameplate, analogous to the Hudson Motor Co. Terraplane with which it competed. That lasted through 1937 when, for 1938, it became Nash Lafayette through the 1940 model year. For 1941, Nash introduced the Nash Ambassador 600 low-priced economy series with pioneering unitized body/frame construction. Its "600" name denoted "20-gallon fuel tank X 30 mpg = 600 miles per tankful". Postwar, it became simply Nash 600 through 1949 when for 1950 it became Nash Statesman. Consistently, each name was applied to the lowest-priced model series on offer.
  7. Pity the unfortunate Rolls-Royce Phantom III, all the design elements are there, just the proportions conspire to produce a result less attractive than its predecessor.
  8. For some reason, the front wheels on the 1959-'60 Mercurys seem a bit too much rearward in the shape of the wheel well, 1960 the worst. The other details like the 1960 wide set headlights are odd, a feature they 'copied' from the 1959 Oldsmobile. The wheels look too small too for the size of the car, 8.00 X 14" should have been '15's.

  12. John, My impression of this '58 Edsel is it could actually be a well-preserved, 30K mile example. If so on close inspection, it's a choice find for someone who wants to own one of the most iconic cars of the era. Inspect carefully for rust damage throughout before proceeding, this is a Northeast car. My recollections of that episode: As a car-crazed youth at the time of its introduction, I can vaguely recall my parents talking about this new car that was coming on the market and the TV commercials when it was. My parents periodically shopped in the nearby small city of Hornell, NY. During one trip there, on a main street was a new block building being built with signs proclaiming it would be an Edsel dealership. The franchise had been granted to Elsenheimer who already had Arkport Lincoln-Mercury in that nearby town. Ford was initially requiring their Edsel dealerships to be exclusively Edsel, free-standing operations, not another nameplated added to Ford or Mercury dealers. One can imagine the consternation of the latter two as they not only had to compete with all the other car makes from GM and Chrysler but also now had another competitor from the very company whose cars they were representing. Within the year, on a later shopping trip, suddenly Edsels appeared on the Arkport Lincoln-Mercury lot along with banners proclaiming they now were available at that dealership. Down in Hornell, that brand new dealership building was selling used cars. The failure of Edsel was now manifest even to a 7–8-year-old boy like me. My father did business with the local Ford dealer who allowed the Edsel wasn't selling well, that franchises had been offered to Ford and Mercury dealers to keep coverage in areas were the stand-alone agencies had already failed. He bypassed the 'opportunity' when offered. When the Life magazine arrived with 1959 Edsel advertisement, it was obvious the car was now exclusively a restyled 1959 Ford platform, even included an available six cylinder! My parents agreed it was a more attractive car than the 1958 but there didn't seem to be much of a compelling reason to buy one instead of a Ford. In their judgement, the car hadn't lived up to the initial hype, that other than unusual styling, it was just another FpMoCo car, nothing to get excited about. A few 1959 Edsels appeared on Arkport L-M's lot but no great promotion appeared to help move them. We subscribed to the Buffalo Evening News when the 1960 Edsel advertisements appeared for the few Niagara Frontier Edsel dealers still holding on. It was all very anticlimactic, a 1960 Ford with Pontiac-style grille and odd vertical taillights contrary to the overall theme of the car on which they were imposed. When the end was announce, dealers held "Edsel's Funeral Sales" with big discounts on those remaining in stock. A few months later, much to the relief of stagnating Mercury dealers, their salvation arrived in the Comet. It was amazing how quickly all evidence of the Edsel was swept away, except those unhappy reminders that appeared at trade-in time over the next few years. The local Ford dealer even took a gold and white 1958 Edsel Citation four-door hardtop in trade, used it for a loner car to good customers to use while their car was in for repairs. Steve

  15. For Sale: 1959 Edsel Ranger 4dr Sedan, 85K miles - $8,500 - Midland, TX - 1959 Edsel Ranger - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle automotive sale (craigslist.org) Seller's Description: It runs and drives with good power but I think the engine could use a rebuild. It's a 292 Y Block Ford with a 2 speed automatic transmission. There were only 14k made from what I understand. Edsel Ford was Henry Ford's son and they only made Edsel cars for 3 years. This car might be complete. Interior is very nice. It'll start up pretty easily. I've only driven it within a block of my house though. It was in a barn for many years of its life. It has new brakes and lines, a new battery, air conditioning I believe will work with a charge, new bands and clutches in the transmission. Gauges don't work. It's still needs a little work to be daily driven. After it gets warm it knocks at really low idle. It might just need an oil pump but I'd figure on new bearings and it could be something else completely, Im really not 100% sure. If you just start it and listen to it without getting it warm it sounds fine. It has good power. I've never opened it up, just cruised it. It does have some rust, more so on the lower driver's side exterior. Not on the interior that I've seen. Passenger side has some but not as bad. On the off chance that you'd want to ls swap it I do also have something for that. Open to offers. odometer: 85000 Contact: (432) nine-7-8-4-4-8-seven Copy and paste in your email: e0b4d6f101993c27952d2d3a50624b85@sale.craigslist.org I have no personal interest or stake in the eventual sale of this 1959 Edsel Ranger 4dr Sedan. 22. For Sale: 1929 Essex Challenger Six 4dr Standard Sedan - $16,200 - Lee's Summit, MO Essex Challenger Coach Super Six (not Model A Ford) - cars & trucks... (craigslist.org) Seller's Description: The "ESSEX" manufacturer was the number 3 auto manufacturer beneath Ford's Model A and Chevy Coupe in 1929. It was a division of Hudson. Hudson dropped the Essex name after a few years and re-badged it.This beauty was fully restored approximately 25 years ago. It still is mostly original, with the 55hp L-head inline Super Six engine, and three speed manual transmission. It has front and rear semi-elliptical leaf-spring suspension, semi-floating rear axle, and four-wheel Bendix mechanical drum brakes. (Wheelbase is 110.5 in.)It was running and driving just a few years ago but has done some sitting. I just went through the carburetor and installed an electric fuel pump inside the original fuel filter housing (to hide it). Many Essex owners do this for smoother operation.I haven't been able to tune in the carb and fuel pump yet, but the engine turns over, just hasn't fired up yet.I'm having to sell because of health.
