  1. Nice find Marksan! years ago I searched the interwebs for a suitable '71or'72 , eventually found a '73 on the roadside I could not pass up. Fortunately it turned out to be a great car, although I always missed those beautiful pointy ends. One of the great under-appreciated classics of all time, IMO. Thanks for preserving it. Drew
  2. Thanks for the tip, Gungeey. This car sat unused for a long period w battery in. That would explain that.
  3. When I bought my '65 back in '92 the battery box & much of the surrounding metal were severely eaten away, & the chrome on the adjacent grille was also badly burned, even though the rest of the car was in great condition. Since then two used grilles that I've acquired also showed signs of acid damage in the same area. Looks like my car may have suffered the same malfunction. Probably not a chronic problem if it's new to Seafoam, but has anyone else seen an unusual amount of acid damage in the same area?
  4. Kudos to Haz & Tom for the excellent info! Nothing sadder than a request that goes unanswered. I know I've taken apart & reassembled that GB several times, but could not provide a proper description without doing it all over again. But I do remember one problem I encountered. I found the spring inside the GB light switch to be too strong for it's intended purpose. With the door closed it exerted unnecessary force on the whole assembly, which had already been cracked & repaired. It was many years ago but I do remember taking the switch apart & replacing the spring w a weaker one.
  5. My '65 has been insured by Foremost(through J.C.Taylor) since I bought it in '92. No problems, although I've been fortunate not to have to use it. As far as I know pole barns & carports are covered but not daily drivers, as you must have full coverage on another vehicle for that purpose.
  6. A search of "73 Riviera images" shows quite a few Rivs w what appear to be factory rt hand mirrors, however I looked high & low for one about ten yrs ago to no avail. Probably a rare creature. On a related note: I have a '73 rear bumper of very nice "driver" quality which can be had at quite a bargain. Let me know if interested. & good luck on your search. Drew
  7. I realize that. comment was made somewhat in jest. I am just lazy & searching sucks. sorry
  8. Thanks John! I just found it. Appreciate your help!
  9. Dear Ed, Franklin,& Bill. Thank you all for schooling me on the proper use of a forum. You'll be happy to know I feel really stupid for asking. & now, if nobody else wants to chime in with more excellent advice, I'm gonna go eat some worms!
  10. Greetings! I seek reaffirmation on advice I was given years ago concerning the proper plugs for my '65 401. When ACDelco discontinued the recommended 43S plugs I was advised to switch to R44S, apparently the next closest available plug from AC. Any knowledge, advise, recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Drew
  11. Dear RupesRivi, Looks like a person(or persons) of limited cognitive abilities(talking bout myself here), read your post from years ago, saw the pic of your wood veneer, conflated it with BestOffer's response from years later, & then concluded that he/you were producing charcoal/grey veneers for our consumption! Upon closer inspection that was obviously an incorrect conclusion. The post date of Sept '18(?), along with the delayed response to multiple replies, were probably a tipoff that I missed. I did read your reply from 7 hrs ago, but maybe you could clarify the situation with more information. Thanks, Drew. note to self: check those post dates from now on
  12. Sorry James, I got so excited seeing that pic of the charcoal veneer I stopped tracking properly. Me old
  13. Greetings BOC, I've been waiting w great anticipation for the charcoal/gray veneer you showed us, but it doesn't appear on your site. Will you be offering full '65 deluxe kits in that color?
  14. This is just a guess but there's a possibility that that knob can be found on a number of other lg GM Cars of the era. If you can somehow verify that it would help broaden your search. As always I don't know for sure, just sayin'
  15. I love 'em! The two big questions are: when will we see pics of them installed? And when will you ramp up production so we can acquire some for ourselves?
  16. Better get on it! Clark's is not what it used to be. They have discontinued many of their Riviera parts, & probably aren't restocking items when they sell out. They used to carry everything I need. Unfortunately I put off buying many items, assuming they would be available when needed. One item in particular which really saddened me was the '65 console PRND12 lens, which they used to carry, but are now apparently made from unobtainium. I called them some time ago & they were unable or unwilling to provide me with their source. Sadly all good things eventually come to an end.
  17. Every morning for the first few minutes the Riv emits steam & a spattering of water out of the left tailpipe only. As there don't seem to be any issues with the engine, I believe this is condensation forming in the exhaust system, probably the muffler. Didn't I learn this here from a past thread? But it only comes out one side. Could that be due to the muffler hanging slightly lower on one side? I recall someone suggesting that drilling a small hole in the bottom of the muffler would remedy the problem. Can anyone verify or debunk this theory? Thanks, Drew
  18. I recently bought a repop on eBay which came pretty much like Gungeey described, a zinc color. This looks like a powder-coat finish. I topped it off with a few coats of satin clear Krylon. Hopefully that will help preserve the finish. Thanks for the info & pics, guys. Drew
  19. not that there's anything wrong with that
  20. Tell her Industrial Modern is the latest craze. Explaining why you're suddenly into interior design is your problem.
  21. Greetings! What, in your opinions (or in fact), is the proper finish for the '65 gas tank as delivered from the factory? Thanks
