  1. Roadshark

Enclosed see before and after of my engine compartment. I'm no mechanic but cleaning, painting, screwing around in the engine compartment over the winter was fun and satisfying. As you have seen there is a world of info from the most knowledgable Riv guys in the world here at your fingertips.

I picked up many tips re detailing, including my fav, using tin foil to mask around misc components. Just make sure you disconnect the battery first.

  2. When I was looking at which year Riv to buy, I went the the 67, mainly becasue a lot of people know how to work on the 430, plus parts are still around. I've not once regretted it.  I'll post some pix of mine- color is Platinum Mist if I'm not mistaken.

  3. On my 67 the spring that makes the interior door handle return  broke but the exterior handle still worked. I bought a used mechanism from Darwin Falk and my friend installed it. Note driver and pass side are different. If I remember, the assemblies are interchangeable with some Eldorados and Toronados.

One of the names it goes by is "regulator assembly, door window", "window regulator, manual", or window regulator, electric", as per page 6-23 of the '67 "body by Fisher" service manual.  Darwin sold me the actual "door release", not the entire mechanism. Works fine.

  4. The gentleman from Md who writes a column in the Riview every month just recently wrote a good article about A/C, Freon, 134a, etc. He knows what he's talking about. It was in an issue a few months ago.

Keep the R-12. It's legal, as long as you find a guy who's certified to handle it. My 67 runs on R-12 and I usually have to turn it down after a half hr or so.

After the season I have to get someone to flush the system because I have the 2 different oils mixed together/ I'll get a new dryer, have someone flush it, and I might replace the A/C compressor clutch while I'm at it.

I have to admit feeling kind of "smug" when pulling into a cruise nite or show with the windows rolled up tight.

  5. I have a complete "OPP", or Owners Protection Plan" booklet for my 67. It seems the metal plate was permanently adhered to the back cover, and every 6 mos the owner was to bring the car in to a dealer for Maintainence. The plate is like a metal credit card.. The dealer would, evidently, do the scheduled maintainence, then stamp the "validation report". According to the text, "it is required....every 6 mos...authorized Buick Dealer do the report, send half of the perforated slip to Buick, , indicate mileage, etc.. I know cars from this era needed much more care than cars of today, but I wonder if this was a bit of "hype"?

Like to hear from some ex- service managers re this.

The booklet is around 38 pages; if you want a can make copies and post. May take a while, though

  6. Can anyone tell me the differences between

    -Carlisle, Fall, 9/30 - 10/4

    -AACA Hershey 10/7 - 10/10

    -Hershey Hangover, 10/10- 10/12

If I were to be looking for Riv/Buick Parts, like say, a Star Wars air cleaner, which would be my best bet?

    Much thanks,

    Sam from North Jersey

  7. On Searchtempest/Autotempest, if you type in Buick

Riviera, 1967-1968, the first one that comes up is a so-called experimental Riv. The pix of the engine bay look authentic but I can't tell if it's a joke or not. Someone who knows the computer biz better than me should download and post.

It's a white Riv with black top
