  1. 1967 vinyl tops were available in green, blue, black and white...unless there was a spring offering of some variation.

There was a cloth and vinyl custom interior offered which Buick called "Champagne" but from the sample I have it appears only the cloth is a color I would call champagne or fawn. The cloth has definitely been replaced on this car. The factory correct accompanying vinyl looks the same shade as another choice in `67 called "Dove" which is an off / dirty white perhaps best described, especially after some ageing, as beige. This interior appears to be much more toward a yellow but as has been said lighting can really play games with perceived shade.

I would be interested in seeing the trim tag for this car. Could it be an SCO car??

I don't see any GS call-outs but the stock rear for a 67 is a 3;07 or 3;08.. If it does have a 3;42 rear, maybe someone swapped out the original for a GS rear, which is what it sounds like.

    Experts, help!!

  2. OK- I believe the correct color for the vac booster is gold cad/ nothing is wrong with my brakes but I want to clean up the firewall.

    Here are my choices, I think;

    - take the unit off, clean, prep, paint gold cad, paint M/C and buy a new gold cad cap for the M/C

    - buy a new rebuilt complete unit from OPG and paint it gold cad when it arrives . They say the booster comes in gray phosphate

    - send the whole thing to someone to be rebuilt and finished properly. Cars will do it but it will take a while, plus they weren't sure if it could come back gold cad. Their price was fair but I/m not crazy about tying the car up for who knows how long.

    - btw I cleaned off the gunk from the booster and it looks like it was semi bright silver or more likely aluminium. Could gold cad have worn off?

    What would you do?

  3. For a non-GS, 1967 riv, what was the color of the hood latch? Of the hood hinges? Of the brake vacuum booster? And of the cap of the master cylinder?

Am trying to get the engine compartment cleaned up. And at the case for the evaporator, the plastic looks to be like a phenolic plastic, or maybe Bakelite, but it looks like a mottled brown. I see a lot of guys paint it semi-flat black.

  4. Believe it or not the guys from that TV show, DVAP, Desert Valley Auto Parts, answered my e-mail about bumpers. I found some close by so I didn't proceed, but what they proposed sounded not so bad. They seemed to say they would either find a good one for me, or take a core and have it re-chromed. They said their chrome guy did things the right way but not to expect a Concours like finished product.

  5. Can anyone think of a reason that I shouldn't eliminate the muffler on the high pressure hose on the a/c system on my '64? I'm having everything checked and if that piece isn't necessary (they quit putting them on cars after a while) I want to have a hose made that will eliminate the muffler. It makes more noise banging against the inner fender than it muffles.

On my 67 my muffler was rotted at the bottom. Took it to the blacksmith who cut the lower 3 " off, then welded a new bottom. 2 yrs ago and it seems fine to me

  6. If you have questions about the engine, there's a guy in Pompton Plains," stage1automotive.com" who has a good rep re buick engines. Just went to his website- although he works on everything, his passion is Buick power. Really cool links to GS Registry as well as other Buick related sites.

  7. If you can get a picture of the plate on the firewall, it's pretty easy to look up and see what options the car was originally built with. On my 67, the body manual has a page that tells you what the codes mean. Or, someone will help you on this forum. Of course, I would check the VIN #'s to see if everything lines up. Don't remember if the vins were on the heads or not.

Where in NJ? I'm in W Caldwell; if it's not too far Id go with you if you like. I'm no mechanic but 2 sets of eyes are better than one.

Can you post a few pix? There are people on this forum who will be able to help you quickly and accurately.

  8. I couldn't figure out how to download the description of the mechanical aspect of the car but it said the driver could turn the blowers on or off and it would become a street machine. I never knew that could be done, but I could see someone with an extra $60k having some fun with that car.

  9. John posted a note about a 66 that was being parted out; the ownerisn't very tech savvy, but he's quite a mechanic. I bought the bumpers but he has a beautiful front grill with radiator/headlights complete w motor, supports, etc. Nicely restored.

Also, 2 crisp front fenders/deck lid/front wheel wells. Also ass't of other parts, especially suspension. Also has an exhuast system w/ 100 miles on it.Name is Vince...410 882 0184 No ans machine, he's in and out. After 4 is better.post-85985-143142937062_thumb.jpg

  10. Thanks to all who replied. I have a much better idea of how to proceed now. I see that a big part of owning a classic is identifying and tracking down parts, which can be fun/fustrating/challenging, depending on your mood. I find it fun, usually. I looked in my '67 Fisher Body Parts Illustrations, and on page 67 they show the part and it's called " Control Ass'ly, door lock remote front". Says it's common to Toronado and Eldorado. The book says "group # 10,500" but Jeff has the real part number, which is really helpful.
