That would make sense re what he was trying to explain to me, Ed. Which means if the car wasnt blt with 2 speakers it never had the fade built into the harness.

Jason recommended Precision Stereo, upstate NY, 315 797 5219. He has a new address which he asked me to post- 6475 Stage Rd, Utica NY 13502. His name is Rob Pacini and he gave me quite an education over the phone re our old radios. For instance, most of us know when replacing speakers to use 8-10 ohm speakers. But when I told him I was going to hook up a second ( rear) speaker he said that it's important to know if the car had the "fade" feature. He said, that if the car was born with 2 speakers than it would have had "fade", but also some things like this were dealer installed. So I'm checking the build plate ( Thanks Jason)) to see if the code 2 R appears. That will tell if it came with 2 speakers. The fade is important, he said, because most people set it at 25% front and 75% rear. But if you don't have a fade setting I think he said he has to make a change inside the radio, or the radio will be fighting itself to power 2 speakers. Please excuse if I got this translation wrong, but like many other things, it's all in the details. He's going to give me an external jack for accessories.
For what it's worth, he knows a lot about show cars, and judging etc as he's a member of the Nat'l Corvette judging team, and that in a judged show, they'll listen to the radio and see if the sound is correct for the period. iIthink he was warning me that if a let him upgrade the radio sound-wise, which I am, a sharp-eared judge may deduct points.
Wow!

That's a nice car/ wonder what it goes for?

Ed ( Riv Nut) is right about Edd China from Wheeler dealers; not only does he patiently explain what he's doing and why, he has a delightful way with words. A few minutes ago he was working on a front end of a Lancia, and he said "not to change the bushings would be rude". Cool.

While most of these guys must go along with someone's script, they do come off as idiots. However, I think a guy like Chip Foose, who has quite an eye for art and design, is a genius. He wouldn't get along with the Gas Monkey guys, I think. But the king of clowns? The guy from Graveyard Cars who does the Mopars. If he ever put his hands up to me and went into his "boxing stance", I'd beat him to death with with a tire iron. Or better, a frozen leg of lamb. Then back over his twitching body with one of those pretty Road runners. Now THAT would be reality TV.

Right now Fast n Loud is working on a 70 Riv/ nice color combo- black with red interior

He also could list he car low, and have several "shills" enter phony bids in small increments to keep the action going as well as prevent the car from going too cheap.

Even though I love my 67, I have to admit that Grand Prix S-J is an awesome car. Don;t see a lot of them around. Wonder what the production runs were for the top 5? The 67 Riv was around 44,000 more or less.Which of the 5 was the more rare car? The Avanti or the Cougar would be my guess.

Funny you say that Bernie- I try to do the same thing. Once, with my 76 Eldo convertible with the top down, I was pulling out of a restaurant parking lot- around11pm. A tractor trailer was coming along; I had enough distance to pull in front of him and not make him hit his brakes but decided to let him pass. After I pulled out, I saw him stopped ; sure enough, maybe 50-60 yds later, he had hit a deer. It would have been me had I pulled out first. Would have looked like the movie ' Tommy Boy" with an extra passenger in the front seat. What a mess

What holds me back this time of year is fear of hitting a deer ( here in New Jersey). They seem to wait for a car to come, then jump in front of it. I'm real careful and have hit 2 in three years- no damage to the Ford Explorer other than a loose side view mirror and a loose fog light. But I would probably pass out if I ever hit one with the Riv. Must be in the garage safe and sound by 3 or 4 pm this time of year.
Road Shark- are you replacing the rear seal while you have the engine out? If I ever had to pull my engine I'd paint the engine compartment ( or have a pro do it) to look like a real show car. Which header cracked- passenger side or driver? Is this something I should watch for? My 67 has about 72,000 miles, original as far as I can tell.

I clicked on the link, then to the pix/ Ay caramba!!

When Darwin says " in later years this translated into 4 unique springs for the 4 positions", is he saying there could be 4 different shocks installed from the factory?

That 67 GS in Florida- why are the valve covers wrong? Maybe someone swapped engines? Sure looks like a 67 except for that. Still looks like a decent buy

Do they sell booze at those auctions?

When I ( or should I say my friend Steve and I, GMC Tech instructor) replaced the booster, I rated the job a 9 on a scale of 10, on the profanity meter. Even Steve was cursing blue. I had Dewey do the gold finish on the booster,, latch, and the cap for the brake fluid res. I like the way all three items match.

Wow/ A bit more than I bargained for but off we go!! the replacement has two small rubber "pins"/ are they supposed to lock in somewhere? Forward, or towards rear?
-
Thanks Dan!!

Wow! That sure does answer some questions Randy!! Now on to the chassis manual. I thought the seal I bought was too short. Why do you think Buick engineers used this configuration?

Any tips on how to replace the weatherstripping , doors, 2nd gen Riv? I bought replacements but they dont look right- too short. Also, I can remove existing fairly easy but am leaving in place as reference till I can figure out what's what. This is the large rubber that the window would snug up against when cranking window up tight.
Does it get glued? Original doesn't seem to be glued.

Very cool! I love the engine compartment. What color did you paint the inner fender wells, and did you use a rattle can?

Here in the New York / New Jersey Metropolitan area, back in the late 60's. we listened to WABC-AM, cousin Brucie and company. But FM was coming on strong, with more progressive rock. One clever radio syndicate owned WABC AM and started WPLJ-FM. Their clever idea was, ABC was 77 on the AM dial, and PLJ was 92.5 I think on the FM. The gimmick was, you could flip your selector from am to fm and be right on 77 or 92.5 ( or 95.5?) Anyway it was a really great gimmick; remember most of our radios back then had the AM-FM selector. Still works today, and you can impress the young ones.
