  1. Tim I used the duplicolor high temp paint on my headers. I wiped them down with paint thinner. painted per the directions and then baked them in my oven per the directions. I have only driven the car 6-7 times since but the paint has held up well so far. I was kind of expecting problems when I first heated them up on the car, but as I stated, no issues so far. Bob
  2. http://www.hirschauto.com/ENGINE-ENAMEL/productinfo/EE-QUART/ Ed, This is what I used and was very happy with. Bob
  3. Hi Ed, I am in Dawsonville Georgia, yes a painted wheel for the wire wheel cover. I noticed one of my wheels is not the original and the wire cover will not secure to it correctly. Dont want to loose it. Thanks Bob

  5. well, that was the information I was looking for. I had not removed the retaining nut. and luckily I did not go to the bigger hammer philosophy yet, lol. thank you very much for you help. Bob
  6. I have read this thread and am a little confused. I am trying to remove my front drums from my 65 riv. original aluminum drums. I can see the rivits, 3 of them on the outside of the drum. I have backed the brakes off as far as I can. I cannot get the drums to budge and was wondering if the rivits or something else was keeping the drum from coming off? Any help please. Bob
  7. Tom, Where can I find the after market heat stove. I put headers on my car and not do not have the choke hooked up. Thanks Bob
  8. Glad you got it dialed in. I still need to dial mine in a little closer, have other more pressing items I need to address first. lol.
  9. Just had my trans rebuilt in my 65 Riv. I had to let it sit for a month while I was out of town. Now I am back and all of the trans fluid is on my garage floor. The Torque converter was not replaced or rebuilt. COuld this be the source of the leak? Could the Torque converter drained back into the pan causing a leak? Any comments or prior experience with this issue would be appreciated. Bob
  10. Dick, I have a 65 GS, I am out of town for a month so will have to wait until I get home to send you all the info, dont have the vin with me. It should be interesting to gauge how many are left.
  11. Did it two ways, first tried to match it up with the old one I took out. Second tried to estimate the amount of fuel in the tank then adjusted until the gauge matched what I felt was in the tank. I did miss by a quarter of a tank and did run out of gas because of it. I think if I pull it and adjust one more time I can get it very close. At least now I know that a quarter tank left on th gauge means empty. lol I parked it when I ran out of gas and have been out of town and have not messed with it. As I type this I am thinking that I might have a fuel pump issue. I dont know if it makes sense if the tank is empty, that I am showing a quarter of a tank. Have to give that some more thought. I do know though that when I put the sending unit in it showed empty until I bent the arm, then the gauge would move up. Hope this ramble helps
  12. Joey, When I put mine in I got no reading on my gauge. I adjusted it by bending the arm, similar to adjusting the float in a toilet, lol. Once I did this it now works fine. I am a quarter of a tank off, still need to fine tune it. Bob
  13. Great info as I have a driver side window not working Thanks

    big day

Tom, This car was purchased in Long Beach California by a man who owned a liquor store. My dad delivered bread to his store. When my dad saw the car he told the guy if he ever sold it he would like for shot. Well 1 year later he told my dad he was ready to sell it. I think I heard my dad gave 2500 for it. My mom drove it and thought she was a queen, while my dad tried to figure out how he was going to pay of it. We moved to Las Vegas in 1968 and my mom drove it until about 74 I am guessing. SHe got a 4 door electra, go figure. The car sat for a while, then my dad took it back to Kansas for my Grandma to drive. She did not drive it long as she could not afford the gas. It sat back there in a barn for a few years, and while I was back there working my dad gave it to me. We hauled it back to vegas where it sat again for a few years. A man aproached my dad wanting to buy it, this would have been in the late 80s. I sold it to him for 2000 and my dad financed it. Well he brought it to a tow yard and again it sat and he did not make payments. So after a year I went and repo ed it. I had moved back to california by then and had it brought to my home in mission viejo. It was covered in surface rust and did not make a good first impression with the neighbors. Well I got to work and got all the body stripped and then got a call I was being relocated to Atlanta. So of we went with the buick to Ga. In Ga I had it painted, yes I went back to the stock dark green and for the next 10 years it sat in my garage. It did not run very well. Fast forward, I have a tenant who is a mechanic, could not pay his rent so I traded him rent to get this car back on the road. He got it running and everything working, went for a drive and spun a bearing on the crank. We the two of us rebuilt the motor, pretty much stock, upgraded the cam and headers were added. It fired right up and ran better then I could have imagined. Took it out for a test drive and bam no transmission. Well today I got it back and I think it is finally pretty solid. On final detail I just thought about. The driver side window has scratches in it, my mom told me that lady who first owned it had a large diamond ring and somehow would hit the window and put the scratches in it. That is the story, hope I did not bore you.

    big day

Well 6 days after I posted this I got the car back. Seems the trans guy had a spring in backwards. So I got to go for my first drive, about 10 miles and it ran great. But then....... it started spitting and sputtering and stalled. I am like what now, was it the new motor or the new trans? Well after lifting the hood, I noticed through my newly installed clear gas filter, NO GAS.. Lol.. I installed a new sending unit and I guess I did not dial in the arm very close as the tank read I had a quarter tank. No big deal easily fixed, just happy to have the car back running and drivable. Great Day!!!!
  16. Chris, Every professional paint job I have ever gotten has had all of the same flaw you describe and then some. lol It looks great and I also would like to hear your response to Marks question above as I am thinking of trying to paint a 56 Ford F100 in my shop. It would be great info! One last thing, any update on the motor your son is building? Bob

    Carb Cleaning

not an expert, but wonder if you just keep fuel additives in the gas at all times if that would provide you with a constant cleaning action each time you drive?
  18. yes they are but my guy quoted me $600. a new convertor for a th400 is in the $200 range? Go figure.

    East Bay Rivi

love the looks of this car, great color, stance and wheels. Would have liked to see the original nailhead remain though.
  20. Are there any sources to by a new torque converter for a 65 st 400 transmission? Thanks Bob L
  21. I just changed mine, it sits on top of the motor. I might have had a little water come out but nothing much as it sits on top of the motor. Also have to put the two wires back on in the same place or it will read on you gauge or light the opposite.
  22. your door looks new, great job. Hope mine comes out as nice
  23. mine is broke in the same spot on one side. I have tried jb weld which holds but does not give it the stiffness it needs to actually work. I have been using some epoxy putty from por 15 on some projects and am very impressed with it. It sets up very hard but can be sanded drilled etc. Because it sets up so hard I am going to grind out the jb weld and fill the back side of the bar with the putty and see if it provides the hardness or stiffness that is required for it to actually work. I will let you know what happens.
