    big day

Well after about 20 years of off and on work I am finally going to get my car back on the road tomorrow. This is the 3rd time I have made this statement. The first time, after 5 miles I spun a bearing on the crank. We rebuilt the motor and went for a test drive and the transmission went out. Tomorrow I get it back with a rebuilt transmission. I cant imagine having anymore major issues. This car has been in my family since 1966, it was my moms car. She is 83 now and I can wait to be able to take her for a ride. Hopefully that will happen this weekend and we will have smooth sailing. lol Thanks to all for all of you support, advice and answers to my questions. Especially you Ed! Bob L.
  2. Ed, I really like the ar500, I thought I had looked before and they did not come in the 5x5 but now I see the do so that is great news. Have you seen these on a Riv in the past? I now need to determine what size I want 15 or 16 inches? any thoughts?
  3. I have had to rebuild all of my armrest on both the driver and passenger side doors. I now have them fixed and very strong but need paint them. I have the dark green interior so the plastic is dark green. I cannot seem to find a color that is real close, most have some metallic in them or just the wrong color green. Has anyone found paint that matches the green plastic color of the inner trim?
  4. what I would really like to find are some new wheels that are retro looking to the original rally wheels. So far have not had much luck to do the 5x5 bolt pattern. I am sure I will find some eventually.
  5. Ed, I thought about it a little more and I believe you are correct, dont think my plan would work. I will just have to keep an eye out for a used cap with good clips. Thanks Bob
  6. I imagine any replacements I find will be rusted and ready to break. I found some metal in my shop, I think I will try to reproduce.
  7. On one of my wire hub caps I am missing 2 of the retention clips that hold the hub cap to the wheel. they are about 1 1/2 inches long and are riveted onto the wheel with a spike on the end that hold the cap onto the wheel. Does anyone know if these are reproduced? Thanks Bob L.
  8. thanks for the link.
  9. I have searched and could not find anything on the removal of the driveline
  10. Trying to pull the trans on my 65 Riv. I cannot figure out how to get the driveline out. Can someone give me any advice on how to remove the driveline. Thanks Bob
  11. I am looking to get the trans on my 65 Riv rebuilt. Can anyone let me know the best place to get the correct rebuild kit? Also is there any other information I need to be aware of specific to these transmissions> Thanks Bob

    POWER SEAT

Eugene, Not sure what you mean by stuck but...... One thing I learned on mine was the secret to a good ground. I could not get mine to work well, would work slow, stop etc. I grounded it with a seperate wire and it started working like new. I know it should self ground but mine wasnt, just a thought. Bob
  13. Jim, I wish someone had given me the enjoy and drive talk when I got my car and tore it down immediatley. The good thing is after 15 years I am 1 transmission build away from being able to enjoy and drive. lol I just purchased my second resto project and I fully intend to drive it, fix little things and enjoy before doing anything major to it. Merry Xmas Bob
  14. The black brackets fan and pump look amazing! What paint did you use?
  15. My handle broke off mine, I ordered a new stick and tube made by mr gasket. WHile I have not installed it yet it appears to be correct.
  16. Hey David, Thanks for the great thread, you are dong a great job! Also, you seem to have a very positive attitude that comes though on all your post. Keep up the great work and keep on sharing. Wish I was back in So Cal, we could park the rivs, sit back and stare at them while drinking beer! Bob
  17. Its a 56 with the large rear window.
  18. its hard for me to tell how much the headers helped as I had lost some much compression before the rebuild I dont know what all is contributing to the new power, just know I gained a lot. The TA performance website claims an improvement in horsepower, I think it was 20 or 30. I have heard the same thing before about not gaining much on a nailhead from headers though. I tried to post more pics but they all seem to be to big and the site rejects them.
  19. I was kind of concerned about going with the headers due to heat. I was pleasantly surprised to find out they dont put out much heat at all, and cool down fairly quickly. Got they from TA performance, they fit very well and they come out about the same place as the exhaust manifold, so easy hooking up to existing tailpipes. Also, I got them uncoated, I spayed with High Heat paint, both primer and top coat, baked them in my oven to cure per the instructions and so far the paint has held up very well. Will have to give it more time to evaluate but so far so good. One last thing I did was put in a TA 25 cam from TA performance. It I had to do over I might go with the TA 20 due to the idle. But still not to bad.
  20. Hey Rob, I put it in a 65 Riv GS. Really strong motor, only problem is my trans went out. Having it rebuilt, should be good to go after that. Bob
  21. Thanks to Russell Martin for all of his valuable information
  22. Once my car warms up, or after driving 5 miles or so, my transmission seems to slip and start making a whining sound. once it cools down it works fine until it heat up again then it seems to go out of gear and makes the whining sound. trans fluid is good and trans fluid is new. Anyone else have this issue or suggestions on how to fix. Thanks Bob
  23. was afraid of that. Thanks for the input
