  1. It turns out the replacement key chip was the cause. The chip looks physically smaller on the bad key.
  2. I think RansomEli might be onto something....I compared the two sets of keys I have and the set I was using to try and start the Coupe with are replacements that came with the car when I bought it years ago. I noticed that the replacement ignition keys chip was pushed throught to one side of the key and is probably the culprit. The car is at another location so I will post the results when I can break loose and go try the other set. I keep my spare keys in an empty 1 gallon ice cream tub and with the sheer number of keys in the tub I think the chip got pushed slightly out of the key. I gently pressed the chip back where its even in the key. We shall see....Thanks all for your responses. -PTT
  3. I recently went to bring my 1990 Coupe out after sitting for 6 months in the garage. The battery was dead and woukd not hold a charge so I put a new battery in it. Nothing. I get the light show for the cluster but not even a click out of the starter. Thoughts appreciated.
  4. I need the following parts for my 1990 convertible. Rear stabilizer arm on drivers side. Drivers door panel in CAMEL. Deivers sode front fender in RED. Please email me at ptt1369@yahoo.com. THANKS.
  5. Anybody have a drivers side rear stabilizer arm laying around for my 1990 convertible. What other GM vehicles could donate? Thanks.
  6. I went to open the cover and drop the softtop but it wouldnt open. Which fuse would this be in the fuse block? Also, isnt there a manual release for it? Thanks.
  7. The picture of my red 1990 convertible was what it looked like when I acquired it from PO. It has chrome 16in Lasabre wheels with 225/60-16 blackwalls now.
  8. The wife slid the coupe into a curb avoiding a stalled car....ruining the left rear factory wheel and apparently bent the lower stabilizer arm (reminds me of a frontend a arm!). The GMpartsdirect.com price is ridiculously high so Im going to the local pick and pull to find a used one. Which GM vehicles would be a donor for the 1990 Reatta is my question. Thanks.
  9. On my 1990 convertible the blade that the rear window connector plugs onto is broken off so does that kill the heated mirror function???
  10. Today my car alarm went off in my driveway...for no apparent reason. Then there was whiteish smoke coming out of the seams around the hood! I was/am at work and the wife called me about it. I had her disconnect the battery cables. The #20 (BCM?) fuse has popped twice in the past two weeks if that matters. Thoughts appreciated. Thanks.
  11. Machiner55's pic #2 of the o-rings for the compressor end of the hose assembly were not in the assorted pack of 24 that I bought at Autozone. Where can I get these o-rings ??? There is no reason to even hook up my vac-pump to the system! Looks like it wouldnt hold a vacuum without the proper o-rings at the compressor end! Need to find some of those thicker o-rings....but where. I would think they would be included in the 24-piece pack from AutoZone......
  12. I got the hose assembly from the coupe installed on the convertible. I only removed the fan off the radiator and now KNOW to go ahead and take the radiator out. I got extremely lucky when I put the hose assembly on. I actually got the bolt in and properly started first attempt! I did replace all the smaller double O-rings at the condenser and accumulator ends of the hose assembly. My concern is the larger O-rings for the compressor end that came in the assortment pack I bought at Autozone. The ones I think are the correct diameter dont really look thick enough. They are the green ones. The old ones looked like a more substantial and thicker washer from being squeeshed down at 24 ft lbs of torque.
  13. At this time Im just swapping the hose assembly from the coupe to the convertible. I finally got the broken hose assembly off the convertible and found the reason for the failure. The bolt that holds the hoses to the compressor was only finger tight and allowed the whole assembly to move around and it broke off about three inches from the bolt flange. Is there a best way to reattach the hose assembly at the compressor? I removed the fan assembly just to get the hose assembly out of the car! A nightmare! I can see that removing the radiator/condenser would give much more room but Id like to avoid that. Thoughts? Thanks!
  14. I currently have the 90 coupe off the road for lower rear stabilizer arm replacement and the AC system is currently empty and awaiting rehab. I think just to have a car in the drive with working AC is worth taking the hoses off it and getting the convertible cooling. Even my 4x4 F250 is blowing hot after engine replacement. Is there specific type/size o-rings I will need to replace? Thanks.
  15. I have discovered that the discharge/suction hose assembly has broken on my 1990 convertible and needs replacement. I have run into a brickwall trying to find a replacement discharge/suction hose assembly online. Apparently 1988-89 model years are different than 1990 and 1991. To be honest I have yet to even find anything at all. Is this hose assembly available new anymore? If not...than what models/years can be interchanged from used sources? Getting warm and AC is necessary! Thanks.

    IAC Gasket?

I recall that when I replaced the IAC on my '90 Coupe that it took lots of miles before my idle smoothed out. I cleaned the IAC hole on the TB out good with a whole can of carb cleaner spray too. The erratic idle caused concern that there was an air leak issue even though I had put a new O-ring on at install but in time it has learned to become steady at 6-700rpm.
  17. Its why we have them! Ive had at least one convertible in my life since 1965 when I got my first one (along with my drivers permit!). It was a 1955 Chevy with fender-skirts and a fullsized continental kit. I was hooked. I try not to drop the tops until it gets over at least 65f for a few days but its takes a concious effort to resist.
  18. Where can I find a new one? And the rear wheel bearing?
  19. I slid on ice avoiding a stalled car and as happens I over steered and slid into a curb. ruined the driverside rear rim, blewout the tire and did some damage to the a-arm(?)...I think that's what its called. The car is noticeably funny handling in the rear and Im hearing some bearing groan ever so faint at that rearwheel. What models use this a-arm if that what its referred to? The a-arm is visually about an inch forward on the pivot bolt compared to the one on the other side of the car. im going to replace the bearing too. Thanks.

    Ferrari

I drove the 90 convertible to the local supermarket and was decended on by a group of elderly ladies from the local extended care facility who wanted to know what kind of car I had. Far be it from me to pass up a chance at BS so I replied that it was a Maserati Lamborgini Dino! After all the ooohs and aaahs I spent the next 30 minutes giving all fourteen ladies individual laps each around the rather large parking lot! Each and every one of them giggled and cooed and it really made their day....and it definitely made mine!!!
  21. This past summer my 1990 Coupe's AC would stop blowing cold and after disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then it would resume blowing cold for a few weeks. It happened about four times during the Summer months. What makes this happen? Thanks....

    92 dodge spirit

If its a 4cyl just pop off the distributor cap and crank the engine and watch for the distributor shaft to rotate. If its not rotating it means a stripped or broken timingbelt.
  23. It turns out that the emergency brake pedal was hanging up on the carpeting on the left kick panel! Still doing the brake fluid flush tho! Couldnt hurt, right? Thanks all!
  24. My 1990 Coupe has the red dash brake light on and I noticed the Teves unit was buzzing upon stopping in my drive from a trip to the Vet with oug dog, Tonka. I checked to see if the emergency brake pedal was all the way up too. Im thinking it needs the system flushed. The fluid is dark, probably contaminated and ready to be replaced. No hard pedal yet or braking problems. Where can I get Teves system flushing info? Thanks.
  25. Ill check the recirc canister. The TPS is new. Cleaned the MAF thoroughly. Cleaned out the Throttlebody while the TPS was replaced. Checked all sparkplug gaps to the underhood VICI sticker spec of .060. Plug wires are under 4K miles old. Im leaning towards a fuel delivery issue. I have no clue as to the fuel filters age. That's next. Im currently searching for my fuel pressure guage. Somewhere in the archives.... Will get a new one if necessary. Its not getting the usual 23-25mpg either. Much less. Cant get the female driver to remember to figure MPG when refueling. Im starting to get the feeling that we are all just good for lawn maintenance and auto repair....not really......but close.
