  1. Theres quite a bit of slack when TB linkage is closed. When I do WOT the TV Cable gets somewhat taunt but I can still feel slack in it. Should the TV Cable have so much slack at the WOT position???
  2. I havent had a spare minute to even lift the hood! I did look at the TV cable but couldnt tell if it was broken. It didnt seem to be binding though. I hope Im looking at the correct spot at the trans end of the cable at the top of the housing? Might get another look this PM and post results.
  3. Is youre lock up for overdrive hunting?
  4. I didnt think there was any electrical wiring to the 4T60 in 1990. I thought the 1991Reatta had the electronic 4sp 4T60E automatic transmission.
  5. I checked the throttle linkage today. It appears that the accelerator pedal cable and TV cable at the throttle body are operated in tandem? I opened the throttle body all the way anf released it and could hear the gas pedal "thump" back into place. Couldnt really decern if the TV cable was loose or not. Is it easier to see or tell if it is not working from under the car or at the other end at the transmission? Not really visible from above.
  6. Ill give it a shot and post results. Thanks!
  7. It felt like it was slowing down on the compression of the engine...not freewheeling or coasting.
  8. Doest sound like the vac-module would keep it from shifting out of low... currently looking for the best deal on a rebuild or reman.
  9. Vacuum module. My 90 'Vert has reverse but wont shift out of 1st gear. Trans was just a pint low when it stopped all forward motion in bumper to bumper rush hour traffic recently.,
  10. As far as low on fluid...I only had to add one quart to bring level to the full line. Something is definately wrong. My last hope is if it is the modulator but that hope is fading fast....
  11. I finally got to take a look at the transmission today. Cold fluid level showing about a pint and a half low on the dipstick. Checked the half a dozen bolts around the drivers side axle and they showed leakage and fluid looked to be baked on the housing over time. I added to the full line after warmup and drove around the block. It seemed to hang in LOW and then no forward power...just like it went to neutral. In LOW gear it accelerates normally under acceleration but just builds RPMs like its not going to shift then no forward propulsion! Reverse is good. I was wondering if the shift modulator could be out? Grabbing at straws but hoping.
  12. When I checked the fluid level after it was towed home I warmed it up and at idle I checked the fluid and it was foamy (but not milky) above the full mark quite a ways. Warm weather this weekend so instead of pushing it in the garage I can take a look at it where it sits in the driveway. I will post followup with results. Thanks all.
  13. Havent gotten time to crawl under it yet but theres a two foot wide puddle of fluid next to the drivers side front wheel since it was towed here. I believe I will replace with a quality rebuild transmission. Jasper has been mentioned so is Jasper good for rebuilt transmissions? Do they require the old trans for a core? Whats fair labor for installation? Just had to happen around the holidays....
  14. Dropped pan and replaced fluid/filter 15K miles ago and havent added any since. If anything it may have been overfilled slightly by a pint. Its showing almost 190K and is possibly the original transmission. Worse case senario...whats a rebuild or new trans going for nowadays???
  15. The wife drives the 90 convertible to work this morning and in bumper to bumper rush hour traffic the car quit moving. She coasted to the shoulder. And let it sit for a few minutes and started it back up and it went into drive normally but didnt go to far before it quit all forward motion. Towed it home and when I checked the trans dipstick it didnt smell burnt but was foamy. I cant tell if its because its to low and foaming or to full as the dipstick is wet/foamy above the full mark. It seems to go into reverse and drive OK but loses forward motion quickly. Thoughts appreciated.
  16. Not saying your mechanic is this way but Ive encountered a few grease monkeys over the last 50 years that liked to "make their own work" above and beyond what they were asked to repair! Everything from recirc-fuel lines left off the charchol canisters to sparkplug wires left dangling causing everything from fuel smells to engine misses....and a return trip to the mechanic. Its the very reason I started doing my own repairs.
  17. 4c3zg-3339835370@sale.craigslist.org I just cant believe someone would do this to an Allante....Im tempted to rescue it and render it (Clip) wingless......it simply sacreligious what some people think is cool...
  18. I sprayed the pins on back of cluster and swapped out the four torx screws with those around the climate control unit. The replacement screws seem to have tightened things up considerably. Display has worked flawlessly all day. But I have noticed that where the mileage would show on the display before when driverside door was opened....it no longer does that....hmmmm....Thanks all!
  19. If I tighten the four torx screws it will illuminate for awhile but next day wont light up so apparently its the screws not keeping the unit tightened in the dash. It seems the unit loses contact from normal driving vibrations.
  20. Ive been having problems with the display staying illuminated. Ive noticed that the four torx screws that hold the unit (plugged) in seem to loosen an the whole display sags ever so slightly and looses contact where the rear electrical pins plug into the dash. It will illuminate if I use my thumbs at the ends of the screen and push the cluster in and upwards. Might be OK for a week or an hour but eventually goes dark. I was wondering if a thin coating of dielectic grease on the pins would help with contact in the plug??? Thoughts appreciated. Thanks!
  21. Im clocking miles too! Diifference is...its the '90 Convertible and Im not even doing the driving! My mate drives it 40mi a day to and from work. Had to force her out of it just to fix dark instrument cluster!!! Major deal just to change the oil!!! But...I suppose I am fortunate to have a CAR gal.....
  22. My '90 Coupe is ready for these to be replaced. Does anyone sell the entire thing....struts, hub, bearings and rotors already assembled and ready to install? Probably be pricey but.....convenient!
  23. Someone was just saying recently that the FARMERS ALMANAC says we are in for a dry winter (less snow)....if true you may not get much use out of your snow blower!
