DAVE A
Ok i'm having a total mental block!! (no gigantic surprise) I lost a tiny piece and I don't remember what to call it to replace it, On the front of some Crosleys and rear of others there is the "Crosley Cross" (A Fine Car) that is held on by pins that stick through the metal of the body. On the inside holding the pins in the body is a small sleeve that slides over the pin and holds it in. It slides on easy but is a one way thing and is difficult to pull off (unless you catch your shirt on it and start to walk away then it departs very quickly bending the insignia and a number of other undesirable things). What I need is the name for that sleeve!!! Edited July 30, 2015 by DAVE A (see edit history)
keiser31
I have always called those, "emblem pin retaining sleeves". Edited July 30, 2015 by keiser31 (see edit history)
Guest
You're not having a mental block Dave, those hideous little retainers just don't have a common name. Most parts sources list them as a "sleeve nut" or a "barrel nut".They are listed on eBay under "emblem barrel nut".Greg Edited July 30, 2015 by Guest (see edit history)
CarlLaFong
If they're the GM style clips, we called them barrel nuts or tubular nuts when I worked in a body shop Oops, too slow......them's the ones^^^^^^^^ Edited July 30, 2015 by CarlLaFong (see edit history)
Rusty_OToole
Some cars have a flat piece of tin on there, they are called Tinnerman nuts.
Guest
Dave, unless your car is concours level, why don't you do the easy/modern thing? Use the 3M emblem tape that almost all manufacturers use for emblems today. It's virtually undetectable and it really works well. I use it on all of my emblem replacements these days. So much easier than those horrible little barrel clips.Greg
DAVE A
Thanks for all the suggestions on the name. Following them in McMaster Carr and a couple other catalogues, I still havent found exactly what I used. If I could remember where I bought them, I could remember what they were!! Yes well, In the meantime, i have made a temporary fix with a bit of JB Weld on the inside. It can't be seen where it is (holding the emblem on the nose, the radiator obscures the area where the emblem is). Maybe I'll figure it out at the Awscht Fescht flea market over the weekend!! Greg, I will pick up some tape as you suggest, I just might work for what I am doing on this one!!!,
rocketraider
3M emblem tape is marvelous stuff. It will hold emblems and even rocker panel mouldings on tightly for years. It's especially nice to use on front fender scripts where access behind the fender is limited or impossible. It also doesn't chip yer paint or bloody yer fingers like those heinous little barrel clips do.
caddyshack
They are called a "speed nut". They come in many different styles, thread hex screw on, push style, clip on, etc. etc.Web search speed nut for different styles that will fit your application. Good luck.
