Marty Roth
Late 1920s? What do the experts think this car really is?
nzcarnerd
Looks to be late 1920s Chrysler product. Maybe DA Dodge??
kbeach
Is that a gas cap on top of the cowl? Not sure about the door handle but the rest looks like 1930 31 Ford.
keiser31
Looks to be late 1920s Chrysler product. Maybe DA Dodge??There would be a side cowl vent on the DA Dodge Brothers. looks to be a 1930-31 Ford Model A roadster to me.
Dave Mellor NJ
I'm surprised any of you guys didn't know right off that it was a 30-31 Model A roadster., probably a standard. I wish the lady Cousin Dan knows could move over slightly so we could see if it has the 30 seam on the apron below the hinges,
Marty Roth
I wasn't sure about the hood louvers.
Dave Henderson
Two things indicate it's a '31 Deluxe Roadster. First, the top bow seen through the side curtain window looks like the un-tapered wood bow of a deluxe. It would be a noticeably tapered metal bow if it were a standard. The other clue is the cowl lights. Most '30 roadsters were standards which did not have them. True, nowadays they are routinely added to standard Model A's to jazz them up, but in the earlier days, not so much. They already had a dim parking light bulb in their headlights. Dave Mellor NJ
I think it's a standard. The top seems higher and I'm not convinced the bow is wood. It looks like metal to me. I had a 31 standard roadster with cowl lights. The snaps on the stanchion seem to line up more with standards and the top is black.
Dave Henderson
Dave, I guess we'll have to agree that we disagree. The top may be black, but it's hard to tell on black and white photos. Contrast its color with that of the shadow of the door handle. And, even if it was a faded black it could have been a replacement top. An illusion that the top is higher than it really is is given by the side curtain's lower snaps attaching well below the top of the door. The snaps on the windshield stanchion appear to be exactly where they are on my AACA Senior '31 Deluxe Roadster. The bow seen through the side curtain clearly isn't tapered, as a Standard would have. Your Standard '31 had to have had its cowl lights added, Standards didn't come from the factory with them.
Dave Mellor NJ
The lowest snap is on the lower stanchion, On the upper standard stanchion there are four. The upper Deluxe has only 3 with the topmost being on the pivot. In either case you wouldn't see the top snap in this pic. This is insignificant, I know. Nice picture anyway. Dave Henderson
Counting down from the top snap which is hidden in the picture, the 4th snap is on the lower post stanchion.
Dave Mellor NJ
Due to the fact that the smaller bow can't be seen where it attaches to the main bow I'll give it to you.
keiser31
That is a nice '30 roadster. Edited June 3, 2015 by keiser31 (see edit history)
Dave Henderson
Dave, Good of you to have pointed that out. Yes, if it had been a Standard roadster like the one you posted the picture of, the shorter bow would be seen attaching to the larger bow.
