Ahh...spring

Well, some spring cleaning was done today...I didn't take any photos, but it was a decent day. Due to the size of Max, Suzanne volunteered to park Ruby outside (considering she has a remote starter for winter, it isn't all bad) so that we'll be able to have another old Buick at home.

We tidied up the garage today, assembled a work bench I'd purchased over the winter, and assembled a rolling cart I got for my birthday. With that, moving space was made, so $Pit got rolled out on the wheel dollies, and taken off the dollies. Ruby got a bath, and Suzanne suggested $Pit could use one too to get rid of the winter dust. I'd charged the battery earlier and installed, so the acid test came. Oil pressure was good very quick, and she fired right up. After letting her warm up for a few minutes while Suzanne got Ruby out of the way, we moved the Special to the washing area and she got a bath. While not perfect, she's looking a lot tidier. Unfortunately, there is a bit of mold around...the garage didn't have enough ventilation, so things got pretty moist in there. From what I've seen, it is pretty much restricted to the (incorrect) hood insulation and the stuff caught in the rad. At any rate, now I need to make a decision when it comes time to drive an old Buick.

Of course, next weekend is already decided...I'm driving Ewing down to St. Paul, MN on Saturday with the Wildcat so we can attend the Gopher State Chapter's Spring Extravaganza on Sunday, and drive back home on Monday.

It is supposed to rain tomorrow, but the rest of the week looks decent...I should be able to get a couple evening cruises in.

I apologize for any spelling slurs that may have occurred in this post...all the work resulted in beer, then there was wine with supper, so I'm not quite as coordinated as I usually am

And to think, all I did was replace my spark plugs on the 56 and give her a dusting with the air hose.

Last weekend the GS was washed and driven to our chapter meeting. Next weekend I think I might polish the 56 for a dust off meeting with the electric City GTO club. Then on Sunday the GS goes for a trip to the Rhinebeck show.

And then it's time for the Electra to get moved out of the back yard and get serious.

Gonna be a fun summer I think.

Sounds better than mine. We have a spring ritual here on Victoria Farm called Chain Saw Day. This year it turned into so far 2 FULL weekends and we're not finished yet. This consists of cutting and removing trees, dead limbs, overgrown shrubs and anything else the warden points to on 15 acres around the house and pond. Cut and hauled no less than 10 car trailers full of brush to the burn pile. We will have a huge bon-fire in the fall. Glad someone got to play with their toys. I's so d*** tired I could hardly eat super. I did manage to sell the Kansas Roadmaster along with the AC and the jon boat today though.

I dusted off the Riv and opened the pool!! Then I checked the Caballero for the next 'jobs' in the slow process of bringing it back to life.

Ripped a bunch of old carpet out of my mom's place.

Carol bagged about 8 lawn bags of dead leaves and brush.

and now....

I'm looking forward to the trip south.

Don't worry Paul. Fellow BCA members don't leave any of our bretheren on the road side alone, unless they want to be left that way, or they are kicking my tires...

Derek, what time will you guys be down on Saturday? We'd love to see you and maybe get some of the chapter together and visit. I'd say to go out and cruise Saturday night but I'm guessing a lot of us will be heading to bed pretty early for the show the next day.

Zonda, Not to worry your driving a Buick! And if all else fails I have a wrecker and trailer for moving dead ones! I don't normally go far from home with it but for a fellow club member and Buick man...... Dave!

My dad told me once when he was a little younger back in the early 50's he and a cousin took my great Uncle Fred and some friends to the airport. Great Uncle Fred had a Buick 8 Cylinder and the people he traveled with had an Oldsmobile. My dad drove the Buick home and Cousin Jim drove the Olds. Kids being Kids one would pass the other with a little more speed on the way home from NY up the Merrit Parkway in Connecticut. My dad said when he looked down and saw the speedometer buried past 100 MPH !!! He decided it was time to back off on the gas. It is a good thing that Uncle Fred didn't hear about it. Being a lawer I'm sure he would have had something to say to the two wild young un's. Oh those days of old.

I know exactly what you mean. I was 15 and in high school when I got my 38 Buick, as driver. Drove it to school in May June and till end of October. The 6 months parked under a tarp, covered in snow was painfull.

But the sheer joy of spring and uncovering the 38, and 'smelling' that car again ( old car smell, I think most guys know what I mean), is as good as it gets. I drove the car thru high school and university.

Its still my 'favourite' and that old car smell takes me back to my school days every time I drive it.

yeah i wish i could talk to my dad about his experiences with this car! he got it when he was my age.

i seem to remember him telling me one story when i was like 12 years old about him in that car "flying around at about 80 mph following a friends car and there were a couple of them in each car and we were throwing cherries at each other" i guess maybe that was as close as they could get to a movie car chase with gunplay? id like to know what else he did with that car!!! whatever it was couldnt have been too bad she's still goin' strong!

Kris,

Assuming no problems, I want to be down in time for supper...we've got about 7.5 hours or so of driving, depending how the 'Cat feels and how long it takes to cross the border. We have a room booked at the Best Western Bandana Square - Marge said it was closest.

I picked up a map of the Twin Cities today...have to figure out where we're going and how to get there.

Maybe e-mail me a cell number and we can give a call when we get in.

Got it and replied. Looking forward to it. Now, I'm just trying to make a list so that I have everything I need (fat chance). I may need a bib too...over 900 cars last year, so it should be good.

I got the seat belts and sill plates in after supper tonight. There's one touch plus a washing to deal with tomorrow evening, then hopefully it will just be a matter of hitting the open road Saturday morning.

It was finally warm enough for me to paint the engine and manifolds of my 50 (pictures later).

Next will be the firewall and inner fenders and a few parts next to and in front of the radiator.
