three window Posted June 18, 2004 Share Posted June 18, 2004 Hi they?re all im new to the site so I will start by introducing my self. Names Greg 44 been in to old car for as long as I can remember. Building a 35 ford three window. Also collecting parts to build a 27-ford roadster late 40s hot rod. I?m looking forward to contributing any information and or help I can here.On the Chrysler? I?m at work now, working on my boss?s 61 hard top New Yorker station wagon. The problem is a previous owner has put disc brakes on it by welding in van ball joints and using the van spindles. I have replacement control arms from a 62 New Port parts car that we have here. The parts book says that the bushing are not the same from year to year and or model to model. That is a standard feature on the H.A.M.B. site and should be on all car sites IMO. The '36 three window and any open 26-27 Ford are favorites of mine. If I could go back over what I am doing just so I know we are on the same page. You are saying that my rebuilt upper and lower control arms and spindles from the 62 new port will not fit the 61 new Yorker chassis? Can you tell me what the difference is? All I can get from parts books is that the bushing differ from year to year. Im not trying to be difacult, but if it something small......Thanks for the welcome and yes I am from the HAMB (296V8). Guest DeSoto Frank Posted June 19, 2004 Share Posted June 19, 2004 The Newport is a smaller car, in wheelbase, engine, and some suspension parts...The Newport became the entry-level (lowest-priced) Chrysler in 1961, replacing the Windsor...the Newport/Windsor shared the same platform with the De Soto and full-size Dodge.New Yorkers & Imperials rode a larger chassis.Hollander's interchange manuals are a great asset, as are original MoPar Master parts books when you find them.I have a 1960 Windsor...if you really want, I can try to measure certain dimensions off the front suspension and see of they jive with your NYer chassis... As Frank is saying, the New Yorker and Newport are of two different series of cars. The New Yorker, Imperial and 300 run a heavier suspension. I don't have the actual measurements or differences off the top of my head and if I did, it still wouldn't change things in fitting. I'm working off of my experience with going through this in doing a 1961 Imperial Convertible for a customer years ago and backing it up with my Hollanders Interchange. I have also built a disc brake setup for a pair of 61 spindles that will be going on the wagon. I think im going to have to take the wagon apart and see if the arms will fit. Guest Moepar Posted June 24, 2004 Share Posted June 24, 2004 I have a '61 Newport 4dr hardtop. I believe that it is same platform as 300 & new yorker-not sure about Imperial. I also have a '70 & '71 300, & the Imperial is on the larger platform for those years, but NOT the New Yorker or Newport (same as 300). In '62, there were lots of changes from the '60/61 design.
