Odyssey to Flint: A Spiritual Experience?

Just kidding, guys, about the "spiritual" experience, but the men's pastor at my church has invited me to make a presentation about the trip to Flint for the Buick Centennial. Yes, you're invited to join us for a men's breakfast on Saturday morning. We've been promised large stacks of pancakes drenched in syrup.

So, the "legendary" National Meet lives on in small and unexpected ways. An ex-Navy fighter pilot stood up during the announcements on Sunday morning to say how eager he is to hear all about the trek in the vintage Buick. Sometimes, it's easy to assume that others lack interest in what we're doing with the old cars, and it's a pleasant surprise to learn that our trip and the Buick Centennial meet have captured the interest of so many people.

We do have great memories, don't we? I'll be excited to tell the stories about how the guys all gathered around an older gal's '53 Super convertible in Wisconsin, hoping to figure out why her driver's side window could not be raised or lowered. Then, there was the elderly lady who walked across the street to speak with me in Wallace, Idaho. She saw the plunder from the Flint swap meet filling the back seat of the '59, and was certain that my wife and I were in the process of moving to her community.

You know what? If I do think about it enough, it's easy for me to think it really was a "spiritual" experience. It's just that everyone would know I had gone "over the edge" if I made such a claim! But maybe you guys understand . . .

Hi Brian, I know exactly where you are coming from. Now all I have to look forward to in life is growning old, don't think I'll make it another 100 years or if I make it another 50 years to 92 can't say I'll have the same spark I did as now. No, really I'm not that bad off, I do have a life, really I do!!!!

Brian,

Although over two months have passed since our Buicktown Chapter welcomed over 2400 BCA members to Flint, in many ways it seems like just "yesterday".

On Wednesday, October 22nd, the Buicktown Chapter's monthly meeting will be an evening of celebration for the 100th Anniversay Celebration of Buick Motor Divison.

While we will be here, in "Buicktown", we'll actually be celebrating for ALL the members of the BCA who made this the most memorable event in the history of our wonderful Club, and a toast will be made to ALL who made the trek to "Buicktown, Flint, MI", for this once in a lifetime memory. Without you, the wonderful members of the BCA, there could not have been such a marvelous celebration.

So.........PLEASE feel free to enjoy the "spiritual", or any other kind of reveille that you choose, as we all glow in this most fabulous year in celebration of our wonderful Buick automobiles!

Go Buicks,

Bob Leets

It was definitely a experience of a lifetrime, many of the Buicktown members, myself included did not have the opportunity to see all our internet friends, phone friends or even folks we have made friends with at other BCA events! For that we feel very unfortunate, but we know that even though we didn't have the chance to make contact, we were all there in spirit and in the next couple of days when The Buick Bugle hits all your mailboxes, we will be able to relive the Centennial Celebration, through the pictures and articles, and the folks that couldn't attend, will get celebrate what they missed through that Bugle! This will be another event for us all to celebrate, getting the Centennial Buick Celebration Bugle! By the way, if you are not a BCA member and would like a copy of the Buick Centennial Bugle, please send $7 to BUICK CLUB OF AMERICA,PO Box 360775, Columbus, Ohio 43236 and request a copy. Copies are limited, don't wait! RV Even better at the same time send in your $35 for a yearly membership in the Buick Club of America, membership application is online at Membership Application for the Buuck Club of America

I consider myself extremely lucky to have been a part of the Flint Odyessy. I've had a Buick since I was 16, but never really dug into the history or the cars, or researched clubs and events regarding BUICK. I'm glad I became a member when I did (Spring of this year) and was able to squeeze out a week of work to experience this once-in-a-lifetime event.

If I would have missed it, I could never forgive myself for it. Being there and meeting all of you (whom I could) was incredible! Cool cool cool

Oh, Brian, I am starting a new thread with some cool pics of our cars sitting in the hotel parking lot. You, Gary, and my car are the stars of the photos...

I could've used another couple weeks up there to take it all in.

My only connection to anything close to being spiritual during my trip to Flint in my '55 Roadmaster was that EVERY morning, I RELIGIOUSLY began the day by listening to "Big Ol Dynaflow" by the Remains. It is track #8 on the CD. Then, I would listen to other music. Thanks, Brian, for the spiritual enlightenment!

I have been to all the Buick meets since 1971,and will agree that NOTHING will top the 100th anniversary that just happened! I had the same problem that Robrta had, which was not finding enough time to see all the Buicks and talk to all the people I have met through the BCA. I do not believe I will see the 150th party ,as I would need to live to 120 years old, but one can always hope.

Gary, "The Old Guy" overpassed his stress test today so it is possible! And you need to come back to Flint so I can meet YOU! I saw your car, awesome by the way, but never caught up with you!

I want to start by saying THANKS again to the Buicktown Chapter for making the fabulous meet possible. Although I arrived on Monday, like everone else, there was too much to see and do. I would have liked to see the airplanes and tanks, spent more time looking at cars and talking to owners. After I returned home and reviewed the video, there were lots of questions about certain vehicles I would love to ask.

I went into automobile overload about Friday and after coming out of the daze, wondered what else I missed. I guess the October issue of the Bugle will reveal more things I missed.

I suggest for the 200th they make the show a two day event.

Roberta- One of these days you'll catch up to me, if you can. During the Flint Show, I did a lot, but missed meeting with a bunch of people like you and Joe. If the show had lasted 2 weeks, I probably couldn't do everything that I wanted to do. I could probably spend a whole week inside the Buick Gallery doing research.

I was on the move with my '55 Roadmaster from July 6 - August 9, and that amount of time was not enough time to do all the Buick stuff I really wanted to do.

There's always next summer...
