CatBird
Where is the Engine number/block on 1978 DeVille 7 liter? I think it is somewhere in the back on passenger side(?) But can't find it. On my Restomod 1941 Cadillac. I don't have a data plate for 1978.

John348
They used to show that information in Chiltons or Motors manuals. Or if you can find a copy of a 1978 Cadillac Shop Manual the information will be in there Edited March 2 by John348 (see edit history)

I knew it was somewhere there. My problem is that there may have been a change in the middle of 1978. The power steering pump is different. Want to get the right piece. TerryB
I checked my 1980 Chilton’s Professional Repair manual and it says to use the vin number to determine the engine. No reference to where the serial number might be located.
joe_padavano
Are you looking for the block casting number or the VIN derivative stamp?
