Recommended Posts

I think the car is coming home from the painters Tuesday.

The nickel plated parts have been shipped.

Seats at the upholster.

Waiting on a couple gauges.

Reassembly starts next week.

Well, it was supposed to go in the Friday after Thanksgiving. He got it out in about 3 weeks once he got it. All the bodywork was done. He just had to scuff, shoot and buff.

Stuff was nicely packaged. The pot metal steering wheel light lever and the winged helmet, that had a crack in it, came back great

Nice work but should the 72 parts be chrome. all parts on my 1928 ///72 are chrome

or did different years have chrome/or nickle

31,

1928 is kind of the change over timeframe based on what I have read.

My 1929 is chrome.

New windshield made it in one piece this time.

Pick up the rest of the painted parts today. Trunk lid rumble seat front, golf bag door, dash cowl vent. etc.

I am getting ready to paint the engine and didn't want the generator mounted to get in the way, but I need to have the generator gear located to keep timing.

There is a slipper under the crank gear to hold the chain in place, but I am not that trusting.

Generator gear ID is .875 so I took a 1" aluminum bar and turned one end down to .857 and left a 1" shoulder.

I then bored a .875 hole in an aluminum plate and inserted the mandrel.

I turned the plate OD so it had a shoulder to fit in the generator opening and go in the back of the generator gear.

Problem solved

  • 2 weeks later...

Here they are installed. Still need the 2 props. Mine are cast in brass, need to figure out how to make them look like aluminum or have them recast.

Broke out the Rhode Island wiring harness. Looks very well made and good instructions although there is no routing help

Starting on the dash. Can't seem to locate the back panel. Anyone have a picture? It is a panel with lots of holes around the perimeter.

I found it. Cleaned it up in the UC and in primer. Found evidence it was painted ivory to match the gauges.

Here’s are the pieces. The second one shows springs that hold the front panel in place. Ivory paint.

I sprayed the paint with the springs in place.

That keep them in place when I put it together.

Ben, I also like engine turned dashes. Most of the cars with it are out of my league.

Glassed rattled after assembly so I had to take out the 21 screws, put in some foam padding and reinstall the 21 screws. No rattles now.

Anyone know what goes in this rectangular hole. I assume it is a light switch, but what does it look like?

I believe there should be a piece clear plastic/cellulose that is riveted in place  I guess to provide some light to the foot well. Here is a photo on my 72 IMG_5317.jpeg.843b5273fd86f66ba0e2e2f9d726d744.jpeg

pretty hard to get a decent shot but should give you the idea. I’m in the same boat as you most car with machine turn dash are out of my league too. Hopefully I will get to my 72 one day.
cheers Ben
