zepher
Seems like a decently solid car for the money. Clean it up under the hood and it would be a fine car to own and drive.

Where do you discern the mismatched paint, Mr. 55er? You have a good eye for scrutinizing photos. This looks like a good car to me, realistically priced if there is no rust or other problems. I'm no Olds expert, but from viewing ads, I suspect there are 100 Olds 442's available for every 98 convertible of this era. 2
John_S_in_Penna
" It has no rust on the trunk or floors," the seller says. Is that evasively worded, telling us nothing about rust that might be present elsewhere? I once looked at a car and asked the dealer, "Is there any rust?" He said no. I should have asked more thoroughly, "Has there ever been any rust?" because there had been some, and after I bought the car it came back. rocketraider
Not quite as "all options" as he claims, but equipped like most Ninety Eight of that time. Cruise Control is interesting provided it works. I don't see power locks or vents, GuideMatic or reverb. Not crazy about that horn button underdash to right of the steering wheel but there's enough Tilt-Telescopic columns around to get repair parts. Oldsmobile was using 14" wheels on Ninety Eights then. Buick stayed with 15". I expect someone had trouble finding big 14" tires and used Buick wheels and wheelcovers to convert to more readily available 15" tires. A set of these would wake this big Oldsmobile up nicely. The Super Stock IV Polycast are 15x7 and look much like Oldsmobile's 64-65 cast aluminum wheelcover option for the full-size cars. 2
The 55er
From what I can see the paint on the passenger door and both fender skirts looks darker than the finish on the rest of the car (or maybe the paint on the rear quarters is lighter). I am an old time auto painter from way back and I admit sometimes I'm too critical but that's the way it looks to me when viewed from the different angles shown in the pictures. The seller states in the ad says that the car has "patina". There are 7 pictures of the car's nice interior and even 2 showing the inside of the trunklid? but only 4 exterior shots and none that are really close enough to the car to determine the actual condition of the paint. If the paint color is indeed "off" in spots in the computer pictures it will really be "off" when viewed in person. A good engine & trunk detailing would definitely make it a nicer car and easier to sell. A 60s Olds expert will know if this 98 convert is a popular model or not. I am not at all suggesting this is a bad car and I have no idea if it's fairly priced. GLWTS. 1
