Fox W.
Hi all, Sorry if this overlaps with any previous threads. Recently my car started throwing cruise errors. I fear it could be electrical as I couldn't find anything wrong with the module/linkage/vacuum hoses. It started by constantly flipping between error state and OK over and over, nagging very often on the CRT. Then eventually it just became consistently in error state. I found an old thread saying there can be a wire in the steering column that can get its insulation rubbed off and short to ground. Is that common? Barney Eaton
Common......No However we are driving cars that are 30+ years old and gremlins creep in from time to time. Since you have checked several things, try unplugging and re-plug the connectors for the cruise. Cars have extremes of heat and cold, high and low humidity, vibration and dust. All of these can contribute to connectors loosing their connection/contact. A little contact cleaner or just WD-40 will not hurt.
padgett
Knowing which code would help, can reach "error codes" under the ECM in diagnostics.
Fox W.
Thanks I'll get the code, sorry about that. I did try unplugging and plugging back in the cruise assembly under the hood as well as checking connectors. Also I should have mentioned this happens before the car is even running, error is even just while ON (not start)
Fox W.
No ECM codes, it's BCM: B671 ; current and persistent. I guess that is the servo position error.. bad coil ? I wonder if I should just replace or attempt repair. Edited November 14, 2022 by Fox W. (see edit history)
DAVES89
I'd replace the servo. Must be millions of them in a salvage yard. get two they're cheap, try them both and this way you have a spare.
Fox W.
With a new servo the problem is fixed. Thanks all.
Larry Schramm
If the cruise just drops out, I would change the brake switch. Known problem in that era of vehicles. Cheap possible fix. https://www.autozone.com/electrical-and-lighting/stoplight-switch/p/acdelco-stoplight-switch-12450036/617744_0_0?cmpid=LIA:US:EN:AD:NL:1000000:IGN:8366887415&gclid=Cj0KCQiA4OybBhCzARIsAIcfn9nliw6TnJAEnCKlrr86kqJ-OHBSxaWhzLoEeCWIOYMMziT1zc-MSW8aAq7XEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds Edited November 21, 2022 by Larry Schramm (see edit history)
