I am putting stuff away that I got from my dad. This looks old, does anyone know what it was used for?

While the actual size is hard to tell, I believe these were oil cans for dispensing small drops of oil on fine workings like clock gears and the like.

My grandmother had one that she used to lubricate her treadle, sewing machine. I'm sure as Terry points out, they were sold by    hardware stores to lubricate anything that requires oil. Back then anything such as fans, electric motors etc. had an oil port.

Yes, 46 woodie has nailed it correctly.  These are known as "sewing machine oilers."  Very common.  Handy to have one around the shop for getting just a drop of lubricant into a tiny space.
