1941 Buick super convertible 56c project

My hot rod neighbor Jim knew about the project and kept me informed for a couple years. When it lowered into my budget I was still a little hesitant pulling the trigger.  Glad I didn’t lose it!  This is just not the type of car that’s on my radar, big American luxury car usually snagged by higher end folk!

The first load attempt was just organizing Ray’s garage.  We put the engine back in the car, and boxes hundreds of little parts. It was like our own personal swap meet!

A month or so later, the next load was scheduled at the same time my parents were up visiting for thanksgiving.  My dad was almost as excited as I was when the deal went through, so it was a fun day hauling it home.

It barely fit into the garage compared to the 40 Ford that was kicked out!

Hey Jim!

I'm not sure!

The dipping process was amazingly thorough, and the ID tag is in a box somewhere!!

The humidity was slowly attacking the bare metal.  Over the weeks I’d been sanding and coating the sheetmetal with some rattlecan primer.  Just thick enough to keep the flash rust but light enough to sand off before serious paint, which won’t be any time soon!
The third load filled in a couple big gaps - front/ rear fender and the grille.  A dry sunny day was set aside for a real mock up.

The primer has the knack of showing the blemishes but also how rust free the sheetmetal is.  Typically I go cheap and am stuck with hours of rust repair.  This one is minimal.  Even the bottom is unbelievably solid.  Ray did an awesome job cleaning and paint up the frame while the body was away for dipping.
Now I need to figure out the plan, and list missing parts.  There is a ton of parts still to go through.

Great looking car, you have a long way to go, but just getting the parts sorted out and making a punch list will keep you on tract so you don't over spend in getting this project through to completion. I would recommend that you post this thread to Me and My Buick and take a look at Ken Green's '40 convertible Roadmaster and Neil Morse'  '41 Super as many of the challenges that you will face have been sorted out by these two great Buick guys. Thanks for posting your car, I will look forward to seeing your project come together. If I can help with anything, do not hesitate to ask.
