The Fun of Early Chrysler’s 1928 Chrysler 72 Coupe

Recommended Posts

So I just purchased myself another project, don’t ask why I really don’t know🙄🤣
It’s basket case that most wouldn’t bother with but here in Australia projects are not as plentiful. Any way here are a couple of pics, I’m still sorting through things to see what there and what’s not.
I will do a bit of a mock up in the coming days.
So I looked up the FEDCO plate and here’s what it came up with 1927-28 Chrysler 72 118 3/4 wheelbase. It’s a Fisher Body Coupe, the fun thing is all my books say that the 72 wheelbase is 120.5 and the 1927 Finer 70 were 112 inch. These sort of differences have to be a real nightmare for those of us silly enough to take on a project like this.

Thanks for the words of encouragement Yes it may take a while. I can’t believe all the variations within a model run, so with that in mind and the fact there are not too many examples close by for reference I think it will provide a good many challengers

Hi Vintageben,

Excellent new project..... I'm jealous, who doesn't like a basket case challenge 😊.

Here are a couple of pictures from the Fisher Body Service Manual.... it's worth tracking a copy down if you can.

Looking forward to seeing your progress on this one.

Hello Vintageben,

You have the guts, I'll say that for you! I did that sort of wood work years ago for customers. Your Chrysler deserves to be saved, if I can help PM me and I'll send you my e-mail address and telephone number. Your Chrysler with a US body is very rare in OZ but because it is a coupe the body came from the states. During the 1920's and up to 1931 as far as I know Holden and T.J. Richards didn't build coupe bodies.

Thanks Mark,

I have ordered a copy should see it in a month or two time as it’s coming from the States and with what theirs and our postal services are like at the moment you don’t want to be in a rush.

Cheers Ben

Working on rebuilding and replacing rotted wood in my '29 Chrysler 5w coupe today.
We also got the floor pieces cut and ready to install. Those will go in this next week.
Take a close up look at how bad the original wood was on the passenger side tying the windshield to the rear of the car. That will give you an idea of what little we had to work with.
