Seems solid for a car like that. I remember these Newports as cars for middle aged people back when they were new...but now, of course, I kind of like them. 😉 If it runs good, it may be an affordable way to get into a early 70's Mopar with a big engine. I'd put radials with thin whitewalls and a more original air cleaner on it, then clean it up.

I have to agree that those tires aren't doing the car any favors. Looks like they belong on a  4x4.

As someone who has put an awful lot of miles on C body Mopars, I don't hate the tires. At least I don't hate them half as much as the tires that probably came on it new. The right answer for this car is some fat radials with a lot of tread on the ground. Not for show of course. Assuming that is what is already on it, I would just flip them around blackwall. White letters don't look great with hubcaps. I agree whitewalls (white stripe) would look nice. The trouble is the tires that come with a white stripe and would also fit this car are likely to be rubbish.

I fondly remember the day in Greenville South Carolina when in the early 1970s with me in the back seat of my Dad's 1971 Green color Chrysler Newport. My father was driving down a Mountain road on a Saturday morning with Mother in the front seat and us kids in the back.  That day Dad's behemoth of a vehicle mistakenly "clipped" a couple of joggers who were among a group of joggers traveling down the road in the same direction as my father's "Newport". Dad was going about 45 miles per hour and trying to light his Winston cigarette. Those joggers both were redirected in quick fashion off the road and into a grassy knoll all the while tumbling at a rapid speed resembling two large 1800s wagon wheels going round-and-round-and-round until they came to a stop about 50 feet away from the road. Dad never pulled the car to the side of the road to see if these joggers needed medical attention even after mother screamed and yelled that Dad needed to pay attention when driving and lighting up a cigarette. I always wondered just how bad the injuries those joggers sustained? The gigantic Chrysler did not even have a  scratch or dent or any cosmetic damage from the collision.
