Too bad the outside is a bit tired as the inside is definitely good for a driver. Not alot of buyers for this era Merc. I have a feeling it may sit a while. More buyers for the same era Galaxie. The Monterey Custom S-55 was a trim and performance package that included the buckets and console, vinyl interior, carpeting on the doors with those red safety warning lights that operated with the courtesy lights. Outside, the special wheel covers have the red-white-blue centers. Under the hood, the 300hp 390 ci V8 was standard. Factory priced $3,488, they sold 2,772 two door hardtops. There was also an S-55 convertible for $3,738, sold 1,315 units. The S-55's were the top-of-the-line two door hardtop and convertible, something of a pale effort to compete with the concurrent Pontiac Grand Prix. For comparison, the 1962 Grand Prix was priced at $3,490 and sold 30,195... One suspects the S-55 was a bit of a disappointment to Mercury management but they tried again for 1963 and again for 1966.
