Blue90
🤔I found this today at a local PnP. It was attached to the grill of an early '90's LeSabre. It appears to be a club-type badge. I've researched it online and can't seem to find much info. It has a diameter of about 3 1/2". Appears to have horse's heads on each colored section and a cross on the first red one. Bloo
Yes it appears to be a European-style club badge, probably a reproduction, or maybe just a fantasy item. IIRC the Buick tri-shield dates from 59 or so. That seems kind of new for that type of badge, especially for a Buick, but I could be wrong. The horse heads could be to avoid trademark infringement. What was it originally? Deer? Antelope? Edited February 23, 2020 by Bloo (see edit history)
Blue90
Thanks for the reply. I, too, thought it looked like a European-style car badge. I can't get the file to transfer here but I saw online badges from 1937 to 1959 that showed mammalian heads that very much appear to be deer's heads. 🦌 Even the '59 tri-shield showed heads with antlers. You're probably right; made to look close to original, but not too close.🐎
RivNut
David Dunbar Buick's family crest had the head of stag on it. That stag's head was incorporated into a Buick badge first in 1937. The Tri-shield first appeared in 1959. Three of the earlier emblems were cast into one shield in red white and blue The stag's head was very detailed in the beginning.
