Buick Badge

Recommended Posts

🤔I found this today at a local PnP.  It was attached to the grill of an early '90's LeSabre.

It appears to be a club-type badge.  I've researched it online and can't seem to find

much info.   It has a diameter of about 3 1/2".

Appears to have horse's heads on each colored section and a cross on the first

red one.

Yes it appears to be a European-style club badge, probably a reproduction, or maybe just a fantasy item. IIRC the Buick tri-shield dates from 59 or so. That seems kind of new for that type of badge, especially for a Buick, but I could be wrong. The horse heads could be to avoid trademark infringement. What was it originally? Deer? Antelope?

Thanks for the reply.  I, too, thought it looked like a European-style car badge.  I can't get the file to transfer here but I saw online badges from 1937 to 1959 that showed mammalian heads that very much appear to be deer's heads. 🦌 Even the '59 tri-shield showed heads with antlers.  You're probably right; made to look close to original, but not too close.🐎

David Dunbar Buick's family crest had the head of stag on it.  That stag's head was incorporated into a Buick badge first in 1937.

The Tri-shield first appeared in 1959. Three of the earlier emblems were cast into one shield in red white and blue

The stag's head was very detailed in the beginning.
