nzcarnerd
This photo was posted on an NZ facebook page. Obviously from an early truck. The only clue is CHICAGO on the hubcap. Presumably the wheel or hub maker? First pic is the wheel shot turned upside down so the name can be read.
1939_Buick
Maybe agricultural. But does look to have brakes. A picture the other direction would help. http://www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/29.html Quote In 1847, Cyrus McCormick decided to consolidate manufacture of his reaper in Chicago. Since developing the first successful reaper in 1831, McCormick had tried selling it through regional licensees who also manufactured the machine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deering_Harvester_Company
ron hausmann
All - A company named "Chicago" did make trucks in the '20s. One is for sale now, in fact, on the Antique Trucks website. So an old Chicago Truck is probably where the name and axle come from. Ron Hausmann P.E.
gwells
The number of leaves in the springs surely prove it was indeed a truck.
1912Staver
Possibly an early semi- trailer axle. It does not look to have either drive or steering. Looks like it was equipped with Firestone or similar, detachable pneumatic style rims. Greg in Canada
