rodneybeauchamp
Am going to replace the spark plug wires on my ‘38 Special. Can someone shoot me a picture of what the correct plug leads look like? Are they a cloth covered copper wire, if so what are appropriate colours. many thanks Rodney
Gary W
Hi Rodney; On my '37 Special I went with the Yellow wires with the cross tracers. I not 100% sure they are "correct" but they look great under the hood. Labeled, measured and making the first cut All assembled. Here's the link of that day:
rodneybeauchamp
Thank you Gary. I agree, they look stunning. And it appears you used a rubber 90 degree boot at the plug end, which get hidden anyway. Many thanks Rodney ???????
MCHinson
I also ordered that same set of spark plug wires from Bob's Automobilia for my 1937 and 1938 Buicks. There seems to be some conflicting information regarding if that color is correct or if black spark plug wiring is correct for 1937 and 1938. I don't know which is more correct, but I agree with Gary. I like the look of the "yellow" wires.
dibarlaw
All factory service photos I have seen on these 1937-1938 cars and also Buicks back into the late teens show BLACK wires. When I got my 1925 there was a set of yellow with black tracer wires from BOB's also. As when I bought the 1925 in 2011. After some detailing in 2015. The yellow with black/red tracer ignition wire is to also live behind the spark plug cover. I have made up 90 degree boots for all my cars because of the shorting problems under the spark plug covers. And agreed, the yellow wires do look interesting. Below is how I did my 1937-41.
