keninman
I searched the posts and I am at a loss. I see that it might be a Thermoid #V-83 belt but that does not tell me where to find one or what that crosses to. Mine is looking pretty shabby, it is pretty deteriorated. I thought about removing it and taking it to NAPA and see if they can match it with something. I thought I would ask here first though.
Guest
NOS belts are okay for display or use if you are only going a few miles. Much better to keep an original for judging and getting a modern belt from NAPA or whoever. On my daily driver I went through five NOS in one year. Too much bother. I was able to get a belt the same angle and the same width as my original but with notches on the inside. Works like a charm been there for over 40,000 miles. Spinneyhill
Chiltons list 16 models using the same belt. Mabye this will help widen the search. Studebaker 1928 GE, 1929 GJ & GE, 1930 GL & 6-53 & GJ, 1931 6-53. Oldsmobile 1927 E, 1928 F-28, 1929 F-29, 1930 F-30. Packard 426, 433 6 cyl, 1927 Whippet 1927 93A Nash 1927 Special 6-230, 1928 Special 6-330, Erskine 1930 53 Dynamic. Neither Gates or Dayco application guides on the www give belts for these cars.
keninman
I took the belt to NAPA and the clerk noticed it says Gates 615 on it. They have that belt with notches but they had to order from their GA warehouse. This one still works but won't for long. I ordered the replacement. Spinneyhill
Just for interest I tried Gates Application lookup again. A belt comes up for Oldsmobile 1930 series F. A TR28386, a truck belt! It is a "toothed" belt, 36° angle, 39.25" OD, 20 mm (0.775") top width.

The one that NAPA ordered was very close to my original that was running on the car.

I went back to Gates and tried it by part number lookup. 615 came back as Gates (cancelled) with the number above, but it says "not exact duplicate". keninman
It is a V shape not toothed. If not original then very old and fits very well.

kclark
What would be the current belt for the 1929 Dictator. I looked up all of the numbers that I could find for the belt on vbeltsupply.com with no luck.
keninman
The belt I got for it from NAPA is too wide but works well. I cannot get you the number because I left the car in mom's pole barn and used its trailer to haul other stuff up here. I am going back down tomorrow so I can get the belt's number. Your rag joints look as bad as mine. Here is thread where I asked about them that might help you. I made my own but you can order them already made. http://forums.aaca.org/topic/294591-coupling-discs/?tab=comments#comment-1615370

nvonada
If you want a more authentic look in a modern belt get a tractor or lawn mower belt. NAPA or Tractor Supply are good sources. They look more like the old belts and are less likely to have teeth. Nathan
